^its a good thing you've mentioned OB Montessori coz i've been comparing it with MSA. both are near my house and tuition fees don't differ so much.

have you visited OB Montessori before while scouting for preschool for your son? what were you're observations? i would like to avail of the 1-week free trial to see if my son will like the place.

^I didn't bother to go to OB kasi my 2 nephews went there last schoolyr 2010-2011. My SIL wasn't very satisfied, same as my friends na nanggaling sa MSA then went to OB, bumalik pa rin sila sa MSA this schoolyear. Yung nephews ko nag transfer naman sa La Consolacion in Deparo.

This is not bad mouthing OB ha, number 1 complaint is that they don't have books. So more on research and self reliance ang bata. And mahigpit din sila sa mga parents and guardians na nagstay sa school para magbantay ng mga bata, you need to be in casual attire (no slippers, no shorts, no sleeveless shirts or sando). And when there's school activities kelangan daw sa OBM Greenhills ka pupunta. All of these are my friends' and SIL's opinions.

And compared to other schools, 2 weeks na since school started, wala pa din daw homework yung kids. So medyo lax sila but the tendency is na bo bored daw yung kids. Yan ang kwento nila sa kin.

But you still have to go and see for yourself din sis yung sa OB. Then make kwento here

^ Sis, wala talagang specific textbooks and homework sa Montessori method.  Iba kasi ito sa traditional method of teaching.  May sariling materials ang Montessori.  Children do learn on their own.  The teacher does not lecture but instead presents the materials and guides the students to discover on their own.

  I guess you are looking for a traditional school kaya hindi na-meet ng expectations mo ang Ob Montessori.  But that does not automatically mean that the school is lax or the children are bored.  Not all kids and parents want homework, by the way.

@lablyness, to know more about the Montessori way of teaching, just google Montessori and you will be directed to several sites explaining the method.  I am a satisfied Montessori mom (not OB though).   Montessori is not for everyone though, in the same way that traditional schools are not for everyone.

May iba pa bang preschools aside from Headway na individualized ang turo sa bata depending on her/his skill set?

How do your children's preschools manage the different capabilities of the kids in one class? Paano kung merong advanced or may lag? Pareho rin ng activities?

^ In my kids' preschool, may individual work plan for each kid and may progression ang activities.  But there are collective lessons too.  If the child is not yet ready for the material, or hindi pa appropriate sa age niya ito, hindi pa niya gagawin.  Of course, there is a curriculum but each work plan is tailored to fit a child's readiness, pace and capabilities.  The process is given more emphasis in Montessori.  Kumbaga, the kids are not bombarded with information and activities na hindi naman nila mare-retain if they are not ready to learn those.  At the end of the three-year preschool, each child will have learned the 3Rs of course. 

For example, before my children even handled a pencil, they worked with materials to strengthen their tripod grip.  When their grip has improved, that's when the pencil is introduced.  Same with reading.  My children started with letter sounds before identifying the letter names, and so on.

A Montessori preschool is structured in a way because there are specific materials designed for the prepared environment ("classroom") with a specific use.  But it is also free-flowing because the teacher /directress does not dictate what each child should learn for the day.  Rather, the teacher guides the child, steers the child to the proper materials and lets the child discover on his own. 

To understand the different methodologies, I suggest you read blogs of Global Mama, Spiral Montessori Mama, Montessori Moms, What is a Progressive School and the like.

^ Based on what I have read here before, January ang bunutan sa UP-CDC.  Better call the school ASAP.  Check na lang the site of the UP System.

If you're Catholic, I'd recommend DML Montessori in 7th Street, New Manila. My youngest is "graduating" from prep there this schoolyear. It's a school run by nuns. The spiritual foundation ng bata maganda, pero don't think na puro dasal ginagawa dun. Their lessons are pretty advanced for pre-schoolers, plus mahilig sa mga presentations and programs ang mga madre. In fairness, updated sila sa mga latest dance songs, at yung ibang madre, magagaling magturo magsayaw.

^i'm about to send the requirements of my son to OB montessori fairview. afterwhich, they will schedule him for an interview. i'm wondering how the interview will go. mejo kabado ko kc since 3 yrs old pa lang minsan hinde sumasagot sa tanong especially kun strangers ang kausap. pero they said they won't reject applicants. the interview is their way to assess kung which level sya ilalagay.

for my 4yo daughter when she was interviewed in Assumption, it was a 1-on-1 interview. I asked my daughter what she had to do and the teacher said she was made to write her name. Yun lang naalala niya. but according to my cousin when her daughter was interviewed in the same school, she was asked the basic q's like identifying letter, shapes and colors. after the 1-on-1 interview, they had another round of group interview. I think this is a way for the school to gauge their social skills or if not how the student fares compared to her peers.

tip: my daughter's teacher was practicing her to answer in complete sentences. like when she's asked "what's your name?" she should answer in complete sentence like "my name is ..." try coaching your daughter on the basics like her name, age, birthday, name of mommy/daddy, etc. I guess these helped cause my daughter passed AC

Yes, DML has chinese classes in their curriculum. Sa akin, add-on feature lang kumbaga ng DML yon, a lot of the students kasi have chinese heritage. Ako pure na pure filipino, so not really into it. But nakakatuwa hearing my daughter speak and WRITE in chinese. Haha. I love DML. Sad nga kasi this is our last year na, my daughter's off to big school next year, Grade 1 na kasi.

progressive, 2 classrooms with a play area outside and a lot for parking space, approachable and friendly teachers from UP, they really explained to me all my concerns unlike some other schools I inquired na parang robot ng kausap, the owner said they wanted to concentrate on preschool so they never thought of opening a gradeschool. I have decided to enroll my child this school year to Intellikids because I also consider that his preschool should be near our house unless I can still find some preschools here just inside the GSIS Village, kahit maliit lang basta tingin ko maganda ang foundation. It was recommended by a colleague kasi sobrang galing daw ng teacher, nacompare nya sa isang anak nya na sa iba nagpreschool. When I talked to Teacher Lydia, i really saw it to her. This was my 2nd choice only kasi medyo malayo na samin though I really don't know exactly where they transferred in San Lorenzo.
