We are scouting for a summer class for our eldest son... Nangungulit kasi na papasok daw sya sa school... so here's what we did during our summer school hunting...
*please be informed that the ratio of student-teacher is in the maximum number of student in a class.
School: FAMILY MONTESSORI
Location: E. ABAD STREET (katipunan area)
Tuition fee: 90,000 ++ snacks (depending on your kid. average 25php per day)
Student-Teacher Ratio: 30kids to 2-3 teachers /aid
Comment: Purely Montessori. We were impressed with the Directress during our 1st meeting. They have 11 out of 11 kids passed Ateneo for big school is something that is very promising for parents like us. School is 21yrs old. No yaya allowed inside the school campus. Only during the 1st two weeks allowed to wait, but not inside the classroom.
In our first meeting, she said she will allow us and even willing to give someone from her staff/school to provide a shadow teacher for my son, since we're a bit concern on the ratio (30kids, 2-3teachers), and we wanted our son be more exposed in speech and language, so aside from the kids that he can interact to during class, may adult din. We were a little worried about the ratio and if they can really handle and supervise and watch over the kids (2 ½ - 6 1/2yro kids) in a big classroom with 30children.
On our second meeting, ng nag bayad na ko, sabi yung shadow after the summer class na lang if needed. During the orientation, they said they are the parents of the school and they will do their best and we should put our faith in them. So after the orientation, na kampante kami kahit papano.
The school is located in a townhouse compound-1gate, with 2 other units rented by their landlady. They said they are the priority and control the gate of the incomers and out goers. The kuya guard is attentive sa mga nag hahatid and sundo during summer. I didn’t notice a record book. Yun nga lang, he’s not always post in the gate area as he has some tasks inside and within the school area. (this is my observation during our 3 days summer with them). Pero naalala na nya ako on the 2nd day. Also, tumutulong sya sa pag tawid.
On the 2nd day of his summer class, but it was actually his 1st day in the activity room. During the waiting time, few minutes after class there were 5kids present including my son and teachers (around 2-3) were there with them. They call this room, the activity room. This is the place where you will drop and pick up your kid. There’s a big step from the activity room to the door going inside their school. So nadapa ang anak ko at nag ka bukol.
So ayun, accdg to the owner ng nag usap kami kinabukasan, “he ran, he miscalculated the step, and nadapa. Ganun lang… wala nga kahit anong bruises, kaya even an incident report is not actually needed, but we even provided you one kahit ganun lang ang ngyari…. Flat ang noo nya. Walang bukol… Flat ang noo nya… We’re not going to bend our policy for 21 yrs just for this incident, and we’re not going to restructure the place because of this ”.
First time ko na experience na gustong mag sumbong yung anak ko kahit hirap pa mag salita. Ouch daw. Gusto mag pa embrace (kahit na alam ko na strong personality ng anak ko). Hanggang ngayon, sinasabi nya na "no school, ouch."
On that same day, right after that incident nagka –bukol yung anak ko sa forehead. The next day (3rd day of school), kinausap lang naman namin ni hubby yung head teacher(in the morning) and yung directress(after class) calmly. What we are actually asking from them lang naman is to provide an extra supervision for these kids. They have kids as young as 2 ½, Kung 5 kids na lang ang natira, hindi pa na prevent yung nangyari, what more pa kaya sa taas na 30kids na and mas kaunti ang teachers kesa sa summer class. We are not asking yung OA supervision na lahat sila dapat eh to the rescue sa bata na wala ng learning experience. Kasi according to them “ang nakita ko dito sa ngyari, eh may natutunan yung bata. That’s how we are here. We let them be free and independent, and learn from their mistakes”. Ng ako naman ang pumunta to pick him up and kinausap ko na rin yung Directress, naka ready na ang envelope. Mag hanap na lang daw kami ng ibang school.
