Deworming your child

Our pedia recommended deworming my daughter when she turns 2.  Did you guys do this?  Share your experiences please.  Thanks!

Hi sis! We're doing this every year when my son turned 3yrs old. It started when he complained of itchy bum almost everyday. We'll wash it & use hypoallergenic soaps but then after a few minutes he will complain.

The pedia told us that we should deworm my son. We bought the med that he'll take for the evening. I forgot the name but it is 10ml to be taken just once before bedtime. Come morning he will flush out the worms. You won't see them. They're too small to be seen by the naked eye. What my pedia suggested if we want to see if there is worm, get a tape and put it on the side of the hole. wait for 2mins then remove it. If you see a white & thin thingy that's the worm that's causing the itchiness.

Deworming is done every year during summer.

Really, you won't see the worms?  What did you mean when you said tape--sticky tape?

Our pedia said I should observe the poop (in the nappy since my daughter's not toilet-trained yet) and check for worms.  These could be in different sizes.  Parang I'm not emotionally prepared for this yet.  Hay, motherhood!  Hehe.

Same with my daughter, every summer din after she turned 2 naman.

^^Ganyan din sa daughter ko 10ml before bedtime pero never naman na may lumabas na worm sa kanya, pero kahit na daw na ganun routine padin na ipurga every year

@honey_iya, Is the medicine called Mebendazole (antiox) 50 mg/mL?

I texted our pedia and this is what he replied.  10 mL before bedtime, single dose.

^Hmm parang hindi yan sis ang ni-reseta sa anak ko. Check ko later sa house kung nandun pa yung reseta.

Our pedia prescribed Oxantel Pyrantel Pamoate (Quantrel syrup), 5ml.  When I asked about Combantrin, she said Quantrel was more effective daw.

DV: there are diff types of worms kasi. no worms seen when he pooped pero dun scotch tape un na nilagay namen to see kung un talaga un sinabi ng pedia and she was right. mejo yucky pero super i want to inspect eh.

may iba talaga like me nun bata nun pinurga ako when i pooped may visible worm na kasama dun. sorry ang yucky pero true un. hehe

Sabi dun sa Combantrin site pag may worms ang bata dapat everyone in the family should take undergo deworming also.  Actually inisip ko since 1 dose lang yung gamot, inumin ko na lang yung tira.  Hehe.

niresetahan din kami nito sa eldest ko. 1st time ko gagawin to. actually, last month pa dapat, pero hindi ko pa ginagawa. same with other sisses here, hindi pa yata ako emotionally ready for this.

we were asked to remove all the bedsheets items and clothes in the morning after giving the med at night before bedtime. same thing with out clothes. and if possible not to co sleep my eldest with my 2nd child (infant).  sa dada na lang daw at kami ni baby lipat muna. for laundry to separately sa ibang clothes.

kaya siguro hindi ko pa magawa, kasi co sleep kami with our 2 kids

pero thanks to this thread isa to sa mga gagawin ko soon. my daugther just turned two so pwede na. i know a friend naman 1+ year old sya nag start deworm sa son nya.

i wish OTC lang to mga mentioned gamot nyo dito pra di na kami dumaan sa pedia.

^Sis pinkpotato, your pedia might need to prescribe how much your child needs to take.  Depende ata sa body weight & kind of medicine.

my son takes Quantrel once a year... and since he turned 3, we always give it to him in may, just before school starts...

^^^ Haps, over the counter yung Mebendazole 50 mg/mL.  Around 16 kgs. ang little boys ko, 10 mL ang recommended dosage ng pedia nila.

Ladies, so kapag pinainom ko na ng Mebendazole yung mga kids ko, kailangan i-vacuum ang bedroom nila, ibilad sa araw ang mattress (tamang-tama summer ngayon), i-Clorox ang bathroom nila,  etc. to kill the eggs and worms?  Tama ba? What about our sofa, pati our bed namin ni hubs (my kids watch tv in our room kasi)?  Kasali din yun sa general cleaning, I suppose.

Mukhang I need to be at home para ma-fully implement ang deworming.

^Walang inadvise na ganyan yung pedia ng anak ko

Naisip ko nga din kung need pa talaga magpunta kami sa pedia nya kasi mangyayari re-resetahan lang naman tapos magbabayad kami ng consultation fee? dati kasi few months before MAY eh nire-resetahan na kami sinasabay lang kapag nagpapa check up eh ngayon wala namang reason para magpunta. pwede kaya OTC yung Quantrel?

^Maybe you can ask your pedia via phone call/text if the dosage needs to be updated since nireseta na last year.

^^Yan nga ang nabasa ko dun sa Combantrin site, kailangan ng house general cleaning, pati pets kung meron, para less risk for reinfestation.  Maybe you can time the deworming sa may long weekend.
