Ulcerative Colitis Litigation

To date, there have been close to 5,000 personal injury claims against Roche Pharmaceuticals, the manufacturer of Accutane, concerning Accutane’s ability to cause permanent and debilitating gastrointestinal problems including ulcerative colitis.

In April 2008, a New Jersey woman received $10.5 million from a case against Roche, citing that the company failed to warn of the risk of dangerous and chronic conditions. After starting Accutane treatment, the woman developed ulcerative colitis at age 14 and later had to have her colon removed. She now faces chronic and debilitating diarrhea.

In February 2010, a computer technician from Birmingham, Alabama, received $25.16 million in settlement damages from Roche. The 38-year-old man began taking Accutane for his acne in 1995 and soon developed inflammatory bowel disease, requiring five surgeries and a removal of his colon. The jury found that Roche failed to warn users of the risk of bowel disease associated with the medication.

Complications Associated with Ulcerative Colitis

Severe forms of ulcerative colitis can lead to shock, severe bleeding (hemorrhage), colon rupture, and even death if the condition spreads to the entire colon. Repeated attacks of inflammation may lead to a thickening of the wall of the intestine and rectum with scar tissue. Chronic and severe diarrhea may be experienced in many patients with ulcerative colitis, and attacks are often debilitating and very painful.

Most advanced forms of ulcerative colitis require extended hospitalization and expensive surgeries, including a colectomy, or the removal of the entire colon and the rectum. Afterward, patients may need an ileoostomy, or a procedure that creates a surgical opening on the abdomen wall to allow the bowels to empty into an external bag, called an ostomy pouch, to collect intestinal waste.

I will never ever use this product, kahit anong brand pa

may mga insurance/law firms nga nagaadvertise sa tv about those who got injured by isotret's side effects.

Acnetrex is the way talaga!!!! Skin saver talaga. People shouldnt wait till they get scars from years of acne. Dapat take na agad ng ganitong prescription drug for acne. I took the low dose for 5 months. Then during those months todo diamond peel and tca peeling. Tapos nagpa pixel pa ako. Kaya no scars talaga. Magaling din yung derma ko kasi she noticed daw if under acnetrex ang patient, this is the best time to do pixel. Naminimize yung pores ko. And people really compliment how good my skin looks.

can i have an update on how your skin has turned out now so far?

hi sises. ako naman my dosage is really low im 120 lbs. tapos 10 mg acnotin every other day ang dosage ko.

grabe parang ako na ang may pinakalow dose. actually it was inititally 10 mg per day, kaso after a week, nagpantal pantal ako sa face. super dry and itchy. kaya tinaper intake ko.

sises, you think im better off na low dosage? or totoo ba na mas may chances of relapse pag low dose?

tia sises:)

Hi i've read most of the comments on this thread. So far I've noticed na medyo IMPATIENT yung ibang
Most of the people who use the product does not have severe acne naman. Most of them prefer a quick fix! AS IN NGAYON NA ALTERNATIVE. I saddened by this  :(

More to follow...I'm still on page 26 of the 1st thread.

Hi guys.

PIMPLE STORY

My pimples started when I was a teenager. Sobrang oily ako nung time na yun. Tapos injection for the other areas. Basta nung grade 7 konti lang talaga pimples ko I rate myself mild lang nung time na yun. Prescription topical meds where benzoyl peroxide and another topical gel or cream. Sorry ;D

Nung 1st year HS na ako same pa din naman ginawa kong treatment pero hindi masyadong madalas visits ko sa dermatologist. Medyo hindi pa namang gaano malala nung time na yun siguro I would rate myself as mild. Konti pa lang yung cysts ko nun. Problem ko lang at that time was laziness in applying the cream, benzoyl peroxide. Im a guy so im a bit lazy when it comes to beauty. Pinatake na ata ako ng antibiotics at this time because my acne was shifting from mild to moderate.

2nd Year HS acne moderate, topical cream, still the same. Sucks but my skin shifted to being moderate na. Medyo marami rami na rin yung pimples ko at this time small to big lumps in my face. Nagpaderma uli ako nung time na ito sa may facial care centre. Binigyan ako ng program ng doctor. Halos every week or every other week nagpaskin care treatment ako sa kanila. Result? Slight improvement pero ganun pa din.

3rd year HS minsan acne: moderate to severe. Hindi yata ako nagpa derma nung time na to. Busy ata ako or something. Medyo
naging worse yung condition ko towards the end of the year. I was pretty much lazy at this time.

Very bad talaga. My confidence at this time was very very low. To the point that I really had problems communicating with other people. Baka iba kasi sabihin nila sa akin. Pati yung student exchange program ng school papuntang Australia nahirapan akong makipagcommunicate sa kanila.
Anyways after nun. Good thing may village dermatologist ako nung time na yun. Nagpaderma na ako sa kanya. Halos everyweek ako nagpapaderma sa kanya. She healed nga my face eh, my face was slowly inching its way back to what it was. Puro pricking ginawa niya, removing of blockheads and whiteheads, tapos skinpeeling and injections for severe cysts. Thing was halos buong mukha ko napalibutan ng severe cysts. Nagmukhang pizza na yung face ko. Magkakatabi nga yung cysts, worse pa nun yung magkakatabing cysts nagmemerge to form a super cyst. Grabe sobra! Ang tagal nawala yung ibang cysts. Matagal sila magsubside and dry out. Siguro ito took me 2months before nagsubside yung ibang cyst.
Sad but true. May mga binigay in siyang topical creams. Because of that Nireseta na niya ang Roaccutane. Medyo pricey ang roacc. Since my weight at that time was 185lbs my dose was high mga 4caps/day to be taken before I go to bed. She basically asked the condition of my health. Medyo mali nga yung ginawa niya eh. Pero since I had no health condition, tuloy lang. 5 months ko siya iniimon.
Mabilis yung effect niya sa akin I think less than a month (3weeks) it took effect na. Every week or every other week I was checked by the dermatologist she did some injections too. Its a miracle! Nagdry lang ang lips ko sa procedure. Yung lang naman.
I think I was healthy as a horse and young din and I rarely drink and dont smoke kaya naging effective siya sa akin.

Post Accutane
It took me siguro less than a year before signs were telling me that acne was on a comeback. Oily skin muna, tapos pakonti konting acne, tapos pakonti konting cysts. Hassle! Bumalik nanaman ako sa derma ko. Did the cleaning again, injections, creams and topicals were given to me again!. Although hindi na siya ganun kalala I would rate myself as moderate at that time. Better than severe right! Thing is masakit pa rin yung mga cysts. She wanted me to do another cycle which I did, pero it lasted for 2months lang, gusto ko nga makumpleto yung 6months pero ayun nabitin din. Ayaw na rin ng mom ko so yun. Magastos masyado din kasi.
If ever makumpleto ko man yung 6months, it think meron pa rin relapse. But the relapse wont be as strong.

to be continued.....

Tanung na lang kayo kung gusto niyo

^ the lengthy narrative and all its minutiae are well appreciated. Haven't read the whole story though, but skimming thru pretty much gave out the gist. Tama ka, ang dami panicky agad when they have just started with the oral regimen. There are a lot of factors that affect absorption of medications. We have to remember that the exact way of how Isotretinoin really works is not fully known yet as indicated on the literature, so it goes without saying that this dicey acne medication may have varying effects on every individual, even unreported or undocumented ones. And same goes for the relapse I believe.
