Exactly, psychotherapy is actually a mode of treatment. Dra rodriguez of st lukes is amazing. Even has artista pxs. She also teaches in uerm and holds clinic there as well. And there's a charity ward in uerm. No need to fall in line for a very long time too since uerm is smaller compared sa pgh.

No, you have to buy a card. Pero after that, kung same pa din sa naaalala ko, ok na mga succeeding consults. Or kung may bayad man, super mura lang like 50 to 100 pesos.

doc demetrio is good , she is my first psychiatrist kaso ang hirap na kumuha ng schedule niya minsan hindi siya nag reply o sumsagot sa phone ngaun ;( gusto ko pa naman siya makausap

^Hi sis! You can call PGH-FMAB (private sector) to check the psychiatrists' schedules there. The number is 708-0000. Meron rin PGH grads sa United laboratories in front of PGH (across Taft Avenue)

Hindi naman agad-agad magbibigay ng meds, especially in Psychiatric cases. For them to give you meds, they'd have to have a diagnosis. For the diagnosis to be made, intense hugot ng present and past issues/problems ang gagawin. Minsan nga, pati family members nasasali sa hugot sessions para may clear picture sila kung ano talaga ang problema.

I'm a 4th year medical student (also known as junior intern or clinical clerk) in UERM and I learned so much during my 1 month rotation in Psychiatry. Sobrang mabusisi sa paghugot ng kahit ano sa pasyente para lang tama ang gamot na ibibigay. Certain drugs work best for certain diagnoses. And for Psychiatric conditions, usually they overlap and only really differ from one another by just one or two symptoms. Ako nga, I used to see a psychiatrist every 3 months a few years back because I had a hard time coping with medical school, even getting delayed twice because I couldn't adjust to the stress. My grades were horrible even if I was studying harder than ever, and it just depressed me how things weren't working out the way I wanted it to. I was borderline depressed and only didn't meet the criteria for a formal diagnosis of Depression because of the duration of my symptoms. Hindi ako binigyan ng kahit anong anti-depressant medication ever. Good old psychotherapy aka intense hugot sessions lang. I just really needed someone unbiased to talk to and listen.

^Child Psychiatry is a subspecialization of Psychiatry. Usually, they're more expensive than General Adult Psychiatrists. If you want a free consult, meron sa PGH OPD, mahaba lang ang pila.


@cmq23: Sadly, not all training institutions of Psychiatry in the country advocate psychotherapy If you want a psychiatrist trained with providing psychotherapy first, look for graduates of PGH, UERM, or TMC.

I also wanted to try this.  Since I was Highschool (almost a decade na) sumasagi na sa isip ko to have this.  And till now parang di pa klaro sa sarili ko kung sino ako.  Same like other sisses, I feel so nega madalas.  Tapos sabayan mo pa ng OCD / Perfectionism.  Naguguluhan din ako sa sarili ko minsan.  I will have this pag nagbakasyon ako.

You think one session is enough for me to know the REAL me?  Hirap maging kaaway ng sarili talaga :-)

You can try to go to a Psychiatrist. They can really help you figure things out. Ako kasi I have depression and anxiety, hindi ko lang alam. Nalaman ko lang nung nagpaconsult ako. May doctor is really great, she will ask questions about your childhood, mula grade school to college hanggang sa married life ko. They will try to see kung saan nangggaling yung mga feelings/emotions mo based sa mga experiences mo.

Nakakatulong din to open up to friend that really knows you well, you kahit ano pwede mo ikwento.

Hindi ko naisip magsearch para sa mga forum threads na ganito back when I needed a psychiatrist for my anxiety attacks, at dahil nakatira ako sa Mandaluyong nun, I had myself checked sa mental, literal. Hahaha! Meron silang clinic dun, at may psychiatrist dun, nakalimutan ko na, I think hindi lang naman isa ang nandun anyway. Binigyan ako ng preliminary diagnosis ng BPD at binigyan ng antidepressants. Pero sobrang distrusting ko sa mga tao nun eh, kaya nung hindi ko nagustuhan yung effects ng antidepressants, di ko na lang siya binalikan at tinry ko na lang turuan sarili ko ng Cognitive Behavioral Therapy online. Feeling ko rin naman kasi malala lang BPD ko pag wala akong boyfriend.

Well, may boyfriend na ako ngayon, pero minsan parang gusto ko pa rin tingnan if there's anything else I can do / what a really good psychiatrist can recommend. Ang nakatulong talaga sa akin sa mga deep-seated issues ko eh gestalt, at ginawa sa akin 'to ni Ma'am Shinette Garbanzos, yung psychologist na owner rin ng Da Seekers' Cove (oo rin ako sa hula, pero di ko expect na ginagawa rin nila psychotherapy). Gusto ko tuloy maging certified gestalt therapist (pero ang mahal! Mga 200-250k kay Dr. Randy Dellosa).

Thanks for the advice.  I'm happy for you na okey ka na and I think need ko yung ginawa mo.  Ganun yung gusto kong marinig na itanong sa akin. Im turning 28 soon and ayaw kong tumanda ng di ko naayos yung mga issues ko.  Hindi naman ako all the time "baliw" ( not literal though ) pero I know it does limit me to enjoy life.

Do you have her number?  or email? para bago ako umuwi ng Dec I can book an appoitnment.

How long kayo nagusap? Do I need a whole day for this? Saka sa Makati Med lang ba sya naka assign? Im coming from the north ( Valenzuela ) and medyo di ako familiar sa Makati :-)

And for the friend, may pinagsasabihan ako but not all the time kasi feeling ko pag lagi ko sila iistorbohin eh parang dyahe thinking na busy rin sila with their own.

my psychiatrist was dr. maano of department of psych sa pgh. since she was the chief resident last year, walang bayad. she's really good, siya tumitingin ng mga students sa up. you can call pgh psychiatry office to ask if she will see you if you want na mura lang. i don't think she'll charge as much.
