quick question since it is said that we should issue receipts for clients. how do we issue receipts for clients based outside the Philippines? pwede na ba receipt ang invoice that they paid (mine is via paypal).

how do we issue receipts as freelancers? though i know we can issue through paypal but for others who are not paid via PP, paano yun? like those who get jobs through odesk, elance, 199jobs, etc. pwede na ba yung proof of payment sa site and then print it out?

thanks to all those who will respond.

hi i just want to revive this thread because i'm really confused about taxes here is my situation.

i was an employee before so i got my TIN and now i work at home but i am employed meaning i work for a company they just offered me a home based work and they said that all mandated government benefits and taxes is mine for to deduct and pay. the sss, pag-ibig, and philhealth are easy just to change status from employed to voluntary and pay. but for the taxes i'm confused whether should I really follow the ones i read on blogs by freelancers themselves. for main reasons of:
1. i'm not a freelancer, i work for a company its just that i'm homebased
2. why should I register if i don't own a business?
3. are employed, home based people really have to settle their own taxes? if not, am i working for an illegal company?
4. i followed this computation http://thefreelancepinoy.com/2013/09/how-to-compute-for-your-income-tax-returns/ but i got negative for my annual tax since from jan - feb 15 i'm employed (so i've paid  my taxes) and from feb 16 - mar 30 i'm unemployed. (i'm starting my work on mar 31 - today) so i just computed from April to December of this year. does that mean BIR owes me of my annual tax?

i hope, i'll get a reply.

thanks in advance.

just came home from a meeting with an accountant. so here's my situation. jan 2013 i became self employed, pero taking project based jobs. since i traveled a lot, mga naka 7 projects lang ako. how i get paid is mostly wire transfer but the bad news is i don't keep receipts of the transaction. what the accountant said is that from form 1700, 1701 na yung form ko. he asked if i have receipts and if i registered my "business" in BIR and dti. so i become my own business. well i have my tin pero i didnt register myself as a business. so ang hiningi ng accountant is a financial statement with all my projects, employer name and income. tapos list ko rin expenses ko like internet bill and phone bill. sabi niya, if bir will accept it, okay daw. but if hihingan ako ng records sa bir and dti, magkakaprob daw. medyo na stress ako ng konti.

Ang nakaka-confuse pa naman is reports from people who have attended seminars on freelancers and taxes, like this VA here http://maribetholiver.wordpress.com/2013/08/01/why-ph-internet-freelancers-need-not-to-pay-tax-as-self-employed/

^Interesting. And that's coming from a tax expert? Haha.

I suppose Mon Abrea is right, but ang habol lang naman natin from paying taxes is the ITR, which is required in many things like getting a visa, applying for loan, getting a credit card, and etc. I'm sure no one likes paying taxes, but it's a necessary evil (LOL) if you have no way of getting the things I mentioned without an ITR.

Ano nararamdaman nyo if sinabi sa inyo ng mga friends nyo na di kayo nagbabayad ng tax at paulit ulit for almost years na kapag magkikita kayo? Di ba kayo napipikon?

Sa Pinas, ang hirap kumuha ng ITR. I've heard a friend who works from home na hindi daw sya nagfile ng ITR and pay taxes. Bakit? Kasi ang employer naman nya is nasa US at nagbabayad na daw taxes sa US. So no need to file here dahil wala naman daw office dito. Yun ang sabi...

^Pakialam nila? Haha. Usual reaction is inggit or "sana ako din!", so no need to be pikon.

Read the article under the link adrian posted, if you haven't yet. Tax expert Mon Abrea explains why Filipino online freelancers are not legally bound to pay taxes. Straight from the horse's mouth -- wala na "yun ang sabi ni ganito" and "yun ang ginagawa ni ganito."

Naka-stress pa naman dahil balak ko ngang mag-apply ng US visa after I  save up the P7,000+ visa application fee. I need to renew my passport first, so yun muna pinag ipunan ko.

Medyo nakahinga ako when I asked a friend and she said I can fill everything out online sa visa application, and hindi ka hahanapan ng papers ng embassy until they ask you personally (usually daw if for business purposes) kasi --and this was the shocker -- ang assumption ng US embassies is that all our documents are fake.

It's so hard to get an ITR. Sa BIR RDO 38 , hindi nila maclassify ang "freelancer" dahil wala naman akong professional license katulad ng mga may PRC (tama ba?), hindi naman ako journalist, pero I do write online for my US based employer. Natatakot ako to the point of anxiety dahil pahirapan, eh ang gusto ko lang naman is to avoid any penalties which I may have unknowlingly incurred, eh yung sistema pala nila di din ganon ka-clear. Dami ko nang puting buhok from when I started...

Hello. Sana may pumansin.

I want to file for itr. I got a fulltime work but online. My employer is US based and I want to pay taxes and get an itr. Kaso, I am not sure kung sang category ba ko. Employed ba o self employed.

Ang intindi ko, as freelancers, "Individual Engaged in Business and Practice of Profession" tayo. Doctors, Architects are professionals na kailangan ng license. Pero may mga nagpa-practice ng profession na walang license, like actors, make up artist, mga ganun. Kasama na dito ang mga freelancers. Right?

Kumuha ako ng list of requirements sa BIR. Eto yung binigay sa akin:
1. BIR Form 1901 Application for Registration
2. BIR Form 0605 Registration fee
3. Certificate of Accreditation / Company's affiliation or Notarized certification as to source of income -- ano kaya to?

Sent an email to the BIR RDO na malapit sa amin and they replied! I said freelancer ako, not employed by a company, and I do not have a company. Eto reply:
"You are currently self-employed. Please submit to this office BIR Form 1901  so you can register your profession. You will also be required to pay an annual registration fee of P500.00 and file BIR Form 1906 so you can have your receipts printed. "

http://www.onlinejobs.ph/blog/filipino-online-workers-guide-to-paying-taxes

(baka irequire kayo ng email and password, try to register nalang, super okay kasi pagkakapaliwanag nung nagsulat).

Pero grabe kaka-stress -_-
