I agree with sis juliefiona_22 - When my dad died last April, all the "I'm so sorry", "He's at peace" etc. got blocked out. I know that people mean well, but it didn't really sink in. A touch or a hug really helps more, especially among close friends/family.

My father knew he was ill months before he passed, and indicated that he wanted to be cremated.

Luckily a parlor here (we're in the province) offered a cremation package of 40k - including picking up the body, embalming good for 3 days, chapel for 3 days, rental of casket, processing of death certificate, funeral car, and urn.
People in my office usually route a collection envelope, and I requested them to use that money to buy the food and water dispenser we would use for the three days. Donations from family and friends covered the 40k. My mother just opted to keep the urn in the house.

If you still have time before the death, ask your loved one what arrangements he would like you to make. Knowing my dad wanted cremation made things a lot easier for us. Oh, and try to get all their paperwork (insurance, marriage certificates, etc.) in order or at least know where these are located so processing of death claims and benefits afterwards would be easier.

sis, sa heritage park depende yan kasi meron sila 25k pang isahan, meron sila 64k double na yun ang 80k fro 2 din yun, got mine 2 lots doon na for double until now may ammortization pa ako doon at matatapos pa ko next year..it's true we have to prepare, ako bumili not for me but for my inlaws, then got 1 plan sa St. Peter, thinking to get another 1 for father in law..mahirap mamamtayan, my dad paased away last year and thank God nasa province po sya, ang coffin ay pinagawa ko pa yan Pine wood po yan as their tradition kasi their we spent 130k in all pakain sa tao, casket niya, embalming, but then ang mga tao sa probinsya matulungin in terms of crisis like loss of family, parang wala din kaming ginastos kasi ibinalik lahat ng mga abuloy, 7 days lang yung wake kasi we have to wait for my brother abroad we have a private lot for our beloved ones...but here in Manila totally diffrent patay ka na, pahihirapan ka pa hehe, kaya secretly I bought plan kay mother inlaw after a year saka ko binulgar sa hubby ko baka kasi sabihin weird ako but then naconvince ko pa na bumili ng lote for them..kaya lang ako nma ang nagbabayad hehe
mabuti na ang prepared ka kaysa mabulaga, paano kung naospital pa bago natsupi di ang hirap doble talaga sa pahirap kaya we have to think ahead....thanks.

Mom bought na memorial plans for her and papa kaya wala ng problema about it. Siguro I'll buy for me and hubby narin when we reach 35 or 40 para ready na.

Yung mom ko naman, she knew months before na malapit na sya kunin ni Lord.  Dati ko na napansin na may esp sya but when she gave me yung design nung gown na gusto nya isuot, with the stern instruction na ipagawa ko na agad, nawindang ako.  Forward 5 months after, na-ospital sya, so eto pa rin sya, making plans for her wake and cremation.  Gawa pa sya list of people to invite ha.  All her papers and properties, naayos na rin nya months before.  Nakapagbilin sya sa lahat.  Nakikipagtelebabad pa habang nasa ICU, grabe sobrang idol :) I hope I'll be ready as she was when the time comes

^^ That's so sad. sana ininform man lang kayo nun first family.

When a family member is dying, I guess what we could do is just pray and make them comfortable as possible. Makabawas man lang sa hirap nila. We could also tell them how much they mean to us.

question for those who have bought plots - how does it work? are you given a certificate of ownership to a plot, parang rights?

We visit more often and puts aside other things,I started weeping silently when my grandmother is sending hints a month before she passes away.
She starts to remind every member of the family to take care of each other.I miss my grandmother so much.
she's the best adviser we have in the family, everybody friends and relatives takes her advice and respects her.

When You Know a Family Member is Dying---masakit. sobra. nag-iiyak ako. minsan sa bus. minsan kahit i am in the bathroom pag naaalala ko na anytime pwede Niyang kunin Mommy ko.

when the doctor told us na anytime mawawala na mommy namin, iniyak ko na.  and i prayed.  na tulungan Nya kaming tanggapin kung sakali man.  yun  ang paulit ulit kong ipinagdadasal noon.

its just two months since my mom died.  pero okay na kami.  we are trying to move on.  kasi sabi nga ng kapatid ko, mas mabuti na daw na pumanaw na si mommy kesa patuloy syang magdurusa sa sakit nyang wala ng lunas.

ang regret ko lang, i wasnt able to spend much time with her.  kasi busy ako noon sa paghahanapbuhay para sa kanila at para sa mga kapatid ko.

i lost my mom last january13,2011, a cancer patient since 1999. she underwent chemo 2004,2009 and 2010 -radiation therapy.

for the 1st time we were admitted, august 2010,her doctor advised us that "malakas ang mommy physically pero sa loob nya hindi naten alam kung ano nangyayari".

time passed, october 2010-unti unting nagging paralyzed mom ko. laging painful at hirap sya humingi. my aunt nurses said that we are in palliatiave care already, we must ready ourselves because anytime she might go.

i filed a special leave from oct - nov30.since dec is peak season, i asked my bosses to grant me advanced leave for long holidays for christmas and new year.

then last jan7, i started my core leave mom ko. as in quality time for the two of us. and yes, upto the last minute, mahigpit akong nakayakap sa kanya. i had the whole time to tell how much i love her. and as cancer patients condition- we did everything to extend her life.

my dad opted to tell mom that her condition is terminal already, due to our filipino culture and with mom's attitude towards this - baka nanghina na loob nya.. my Nanay is a fighter ---

i will miss her soo much! but i know my Nanay is in a better place now.

hi mga sis, my father died last jan 13, 2011. We only knew of the disease when he was admitted last jan 09, Pancreatic Cancer. Last July he complained of stomach gastric pain, bought him at Makati Med (he was a retired employee), he was seen by a gastro, the doctors fee was free since my tatay was a retiree. He had his endoscopy, it showed half of his intestines are not functioning well, he was given meds, it relieve the symptom, and he was schedule to be seen 2 months after. But the problem persisted, everytime we went for his regular checkup, my tatay complained that the pain is still there and he was losing weight, but what the doctor did was to change dosage and told my father that it is normal to lose weight. then came november, my father wasnt eating well, talagang he lost 1/2 of his body weight, kahit hindi pa namin schedule bumalik kami, weird pero kapag kinakapa ng doctor tiyan niya wala naman daw siyang nakakapang bukol or abnormalities, he requested for an ultrasound. findings was normal, liver, spleen, pancreas, may minimal ascitis (fluid build-up) but nothing to worry daw. he just change the dosage again of my father's meds then scheduled check-up for january. Kaso after that as in 2 slices of orange at as in konting konti na langg kinakain ng father ko. But he was conscious, kaso nga iyong motor skill niya unting unti ng nanghina. dumating na sa point that we decided to discontinue the meds at respirator/ventilator at nutritional support na lang. He left us jan 13, 11:10 am. I remember that day, umiyak pa siya. Pero pasalamat ko kasi nadalaw siya ng chaplain before he died. I miss him so much.

when the doctor told us that 'anything can happen' in my mom's case, i cried. nagalit ako. i even blamed Him. lahat.

when i was done with those negative feeling, i prayed. na kung mangyari man na mawala nga ang mommy namin, tulungan nya kaming i-accept. na maka-move on.

honestly, i read the book 'embraced by the light.' and it gave a whole diffrent meaning to acceptance.

so when my mom passed away a few months after the doctor told us'that' it was heartbreaking. never experienced that kind of pain.  but i was able to accept it.  and move on kaagad. kasi ang kwento ng mga nakasaksi sa pagpanaw ng nanay ko, my said in her last words--- 'ang liwanag, andyan na sila...'  eh ang nanay ko during that time e hindi na makaaninag.

thank God, i was able to read 'embraced by the light'

i know my mom  is in a better place.

it still hurts and i still choked but if think where she's right now, i feel better.

yun nga lang i really miss her so much. i hope i spent more time with her.

you can't really describe the feeling hindi mo malam ang gagawin and how to react pag ikaw na pala ang nasa position na ganun when my mom told me that my lola past away (side ng mom ko) naging close kami for her last 6 months. parang ayaw tangapin ng utak ko nung sinabi niya sa akin un, but when i saw her dead body wala na ng walk out ako to get some fresh air and para umiyak na lang ako

ako i lost my dad a few months ago. ang hirap pala kahit alam mo na before pa na may sakit sya and bilang na mga araw nya. we had 1 year to prepare before God took him away from us pero i think kahit gano katagal ang preparation, ganun pa din kasakit pag talagang nawala na sya sa yo.

sa mga sisses natin whose parents are still alive, please hug them, kiss them and love them with all your heart kahit ba napakaunreasonable nila or masungit sila or kung ano pang negative behavior nila, promise you won't regret it pag nawala na sila sa buhay nyo. kasi yan ang di ko masyadong nagawa sa daddy ko when he was still alive kasi mainit lagi ulo nya. ang hirap maglambing. pero sana tiniis ko na lang. sana hindi ako nagsungit sa kanya, sana inintindi ko na lang sya....sana, sana, sana. haay, life is short talaga.  :(
