Socialization is important in the character & personality development of a child. Kids are kids so they have to interact, adapt & learn with their own generation. That is just as, or perhaps even more, important than interacting with mature people and a chosen few kids. The day will come when our children will have to be on their own. They will have to deal with different people, different personalities and different situations. These are things that you don't learn from books or stories. Dealing or coping is a product of actual experience. That's why I think independent (not regimented & controlled) and constant socialization is important to a child. Only through experience will a child learn how to deal with negative things in life, assess other people's characters, accept other people's flaws, discern other people's intentions, be flexible and open-minded etc. etc. They will also grow to have a broader & realistic view of life. I think that the absence of independent and constant socialization will result to a person being naive, narrow-minded & idealistic about so many things when he/she grows up.   

That is why I think that if a child would be homeschooled, a method similar to what Angelicum is implementing in their Home Study Program is a good option. I say this because Angelicum requires the child to go to school twice a week for assessment & also to socialize with other students. Their method is more of a "hybrid" homeschool program.

^ Please correct me if I'm wrong but I think home study is different from homeschooling. AFAIK home study is going to school with a teacher a bit and then taking home the assignments. Homeschooling naman is having one of the parents as a teacher and you really do all the learning at home (CORRECTION: outside school pala not just at home as in park, bank, stores, etc.). As in real-world learning like applying math and science while cooking.

Socialization can take part anywhere. Grocery, bank, wet market, etc. You can also join homeschool coops in your area. It can be the same age as your kid or within an age range.

I was hired to be a tutor to three American kids ages 8, 10 and 11 who are homeschooling using the Global Student Network's curriculum and I was convinced that this will be perfect for my 9 year old daughter who keeps on complaining about bullying in school and having not so well trained teachers. I am planning to homeschool her for two years (grades 5 & 6) and even up to high school if things work out well for both of us. My concern is, if I will put her back to traditional schooling in high school, will DepEd accept my portfolio for her projects, grades, attendance and seatworks? I understand that she needs to take a test or something like an accreditation to get an elementary school diploma which can be presented to enroll in high school, am I right? How about in college? Will it also work the same way if I just use a curriculum that's not from the schools you've mentioned? There is a website called allinonehomeschool.com which was put together by a homeschool mom also for her kids and I plan to use that. It's for free by the way and there's an option for Christian and non-religious curriculum. Any feedback would be very helpful. Thank you ladies! xoxo

^ you can enroll her in a dep-ed accredited homeschool provider to be easier, they will provide form 138,diploma, etc.

Hi Newbie here on the homeschooling thing... with the previous comment does it mean that if I join CFA my son wouldn't get any diploma?

My son is currently in CSA and we are so disappointed with everything from population, bullying, teachers, load of homework, tuition fee. Its just a big money making company. I tutored my son when he was still in Nursery, Kinder & Prep and we got awards. Then the teachers advised me to lay off as it was getting too much for my son. When I did that all my problems started everyday note from the teacher for being talkative, always playing etc. when i ask my child he always say that he's bored.

Now we are looking at schools and with all the comments here in these forum i am more convinced about home schooling.

^Good choice on homeschooling. If he stays sa school nila, having him take an acceleration exam would be best to take away his boredom. It seems like your kid knows a lot already kaya he gets bored in class.

Not sure about the diploma. Ang alam ko CFA provides transcripts - which is more important when transferring schools. Same as TMA - another homeschool provider here in the Philippines. It would be best to inquire from them to get more details kasi limot ko na from orientation.

My son is enrolled with Kolbe - a Catholic homeschool provider in US. They certify the grades I will pass for my son. In case we need to transfer to a school, they can send me the transcript. I can choose any curriculum I want or use their curriculum.

^sis tiggerlily, with Kolbe ba they provide the curriculum you will use or you get to decide that? Is it going to be accredited in the US? Interested kasi ako na maghomeschool pero nag-aalala ako na baka walang tumanggap sa anak ko pag nagcollege na. How much nga pala with Kolbe?

^you can choose whether to use their curriculum or use another one. all they do is credit the grades. you can customize your curriculum. like us, we are enrolled in the kindergarten pero math and language arts namin is grade 1 na. science and religion for kinder pa rin. filipino -  read-alouds lang. just in case kailangan namin mag-step back, madali lang. hindi kami behind.

what i really like about homeschooling is that you can always adjust the lessons for the child. pwede nyo bagalan or ulit ulitin hanggang mamaster nya ang isang lesson before moving on. at pwede nyo rin bilisan kung mabilis nya lang ma-gets. this can never be done in big schools. kapag advance ang bata nabobore. kapag slow, bahala ka maghabol.

yes, i believe it is credited in the US. yun lang reklamo ng iba kasi nagiging international student ang anak nila from kolbe kaya ang entrance exam is a bit more expensive than local students.

college is a bit tricky. it depends on the college you want to get into. there are colleges who does not welcome homeschoolers. so what i heard other homeschoolers did was either enroll their whole highschool or last 2 years of highschool into regular school and go from there. if your choice of college welcomes homeschoolers, then you can probably homeschool through highschool. >> this is from what i've researched from homeschoolers who has gone to college na. kasi worry ko din yan before.

there's also this path, they don't enroll to a homeschool provider and grades per level never gets credited. they teach child on everything they need. and when child is at the right age, child takes the deped exam to see if he is okay to enter college or highschool. thing here is that some of the exam are in pure filipino. so if child speaks purely english, mahihirapan or fail sila sa exam.

Thank you sis!  I am considering this because my son has epilepsy. Nagwoworry kasi ako whenever I send him to school kaya I'd much rather homeschool. Teacher by profession naman ako pero WAHM na ngayon.

I want to use kasi Sonlight and Memoria Press for my kids so I asked if pwede na ako pipili ng curriculum. Tapos mag-aadd ako ng mga anik-anik tulad ng Art, etc. Yung evaluation services ang kkinuha mo sa Kolbe?

Hindi ba mahirap sa schedule? What is a typical homeschool day for you? May routines or kung kelangan gusto mag-aral ng child? Sorry sa dami ng tanong ko.

^ we were enrolled in full homeschool as I am making the grades naman. all I need is for them to credit the grades. the evaluation service - i'm not sure how it works but from skimming, i believe you need to be enrolled with them to avail of this service.

sonlight din ang curriculum namin. i really like their books and their instructor guide. and i'm not the teacher material so i'm glad that sonlight lays out the schedule for the whole year. as in for every book it will tell you when to read them, what activities/questions you can give after reading aloud. they are scheduled so good together. like if you are studying one topic from another book, the schedule for another book would be of the same topic. like weather or planets in science. their science for kinder has a number of books.

since i'm not the teacher material nga, hindi ko rin alam how much is enough and how much is not enough. i try to follow the schedule but still, you don't need to follow everything. i sometimes skip the activities because they can be too tacky but not the read-alouds. my kid loves reading the books.

i work at home din. so last year we had the P4/5 from sonlight and we only do that at night before bed.

but then we just started with kindergarten - sonlight pa din but i'm distributing the schedule within the day. my child is a boy and i think they are programmed to move around talaga. di pwedeng in one seating lahat. i can't make him sit and school for a very long time.

he wakes up around 9-10am. i wake up at around 12ish. he plays or watch tv those times. while i eat, he completes one worksheet from his handwriting program. then he plays again. around 2-3pm we start with language arts, math and science - anything with a worksheet to finish. 1-1.5 hours lang to. when he's done, he can do whatever. any read-alouds left are done before bedtime na. this is the "ideal" homeschool day for us. sometimes kasi something gets skipped or moved to the next day.

besides that, he learns other things pa like house chores din. we clean the car, mop the floor, hang the clothes, etc. if we go out, i try to expose him to doing groceries, transact with the bank, etc. last night naman, we went out to see the moon halo live. i had to research pa to explain what it means just so i could discuss it with him.

we enrolled with kolbe because they are very flexible and also for their religion subject as i want to teach the catholic religion to my son. i wanted to enroll with CFA sana (for the catholic and filipino subjects) but they require the teaching parent to be full time homeschooling and they also only start the school year ng june - both of this won't be applicable for us.

Thank you sis tiggerlily! I bought the downloadable Letter of the Week curriculum from Confessions of a Homeschooler while I'm trying to figure out pano maipapadala dito yung Sonlight. Kasing mahal halos kasi nung package yung shipping to here. Gusto ko din sana bumili ibang materials like yung All About Reading and other school supplies from amazon. Haay, bakit ba ganyan? Ang daming hindi pwede mabili or maavail dito sa Pinas!!

Any suggestions for a homeschool curriculum / provider for 7th grader, both local and international? Which one is the cheapest?

^^ we used a forwarder to order the curriculum we got to order other books and materials from other sites also. rainbowresource.com seems to be the lowest priced when it comes to books and other educations toys/materials. the forwarder consolidates all the orders in a box and then it sends it once completed. parang ofw balikbayan box. pwedeng ipunin mo muna hanggang mapuno bago nila ipadala.

Since my son is just 3 and too early, according to the TMA and homeschool association president, for me to get a provider. I'm just getting materials online or making my own

^^ yes, you can. that's the beauty of homeschooling. you can customize your curriculum according to your child's needs. if he's slow/fast on a subject, you can easily adjust your phase. pwedeng mag-advance or mag-slow down kapag di nya ma-gets. in regular schools, students need to go with the phase. kid gets bored when lessons are too slow for them or struggles when they are trying to catch up.

you can enroll or not enroll in a provider. if you don't enroll, student is consider OSY and will take the deped exam before they are allowed into a school (AFAIK). the problem with having no provider, there are schools who doesn't consider homeschooling as schooling sometimes even if you have a provider pa nga. but we chose to enroll as plan B. at least we have bigger chances of getting into our choice school. or if i would suddenly drop dead...

hello momies, meron din bang homeschooling families na based dito sa uae? baka pwedeng magmeet up once in a while kasi homeschooling din kami for a year na. We got the CFA Reading program for our kido who is turning 4. almost done na kami and talagang reading and writing na sya. We are planning to continue na din kasi stayhome naman ako and mas okey talaga sya samin. baka may kakilala kayo na based dito na marefer nyo. Thanks

hi! We are planning to homeschool our children after this school year... We (including our children), ayaw na namin sila i-enroll ulit sa current school nila because of bullies...naapektohan ng husto studies nila... Yung CFA ba kailangan college graduate yung parent na mag-hohomeschool sa mga kids namin? What can say about HAP (Homeschool Asia Pacific)? US base kasi siya and not accredited by DepEd, so paano na kung gusto ko na ipasok ulit sa traditional school yung mga kids namin? HELP please...
