Hi everyone! :)

Been a very strict lacto-vegetarian for 10 years now and counting.

I read the different restos and some of them are owned by my friends :) By the way, let me add to the list
"Gandiva Cafe"
7/F One Corporate Center BuildingJulia Vargas St. cor Meralco Avenue.
http://www.gandivasports.com/index.php/gandiva-cafe

^One of my close friends is a chef there.

Haven't tried this one but might as well add it:

Quantum Cafe
9590 Kamagong cor. Bagtikan Street, 1203 Makati
+63 2 519 0757
http://www.facebook.com/quantumcafeph

Majority of my friends and family members are lacto-vegetarians since birth - yes, most of them never tasted meat  :P

I used to work also in a veggie resto that my mom used to manage, its called Mother Sachi..sayang, we already closed it years ago due to rental disputes.

I'm so happy that people are more open to this now and not only because of health reasons  :)

i decided to go vegetarian once my plans for losing weight become successful. i'm thinking more towards the end of the year, but then i started reading a book about the dangers of wheat and gluten to the body so i'm very confused now. hay. eating can be so problematic sometimes  :-[

I've haven't eaten pork and beef for the past 14 years. It started when i became a PT intern at Manila Sanitarium Hospital for one month, as they only served vegetarian dishes in their canteen, all of a sudden I just despised eating pork or beef after that.  In October 1999-2000, i began eating pork and beef again only because i got pregnant with my one and only child.  Then i resumed my diet of not eating pork and beef right after i gave birth. Then in July 2008, I desperately tried to become a vegetarian. Unfortunately, after only one month, I ended up being diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia. So, my doctor prescribed iron with vitamin C and specifically advised me to eat red meat as long as it's lean, but I just couldn't take it and I refuse to. Instead, I ate malunngay with sardines probably 3x a week for a month and then when i had my followup blood work, my iron level returned normal.  :) Although, I've always wanted to become a vegetarian/vegan, (so frustrating being a Baguio resident), I guess there are people who are just not suitable to become one, especially if you are a person who has low levels of hemoglobin....like me.  :(  :'(

More than a decade na akong nasa Spirituality/Alternate Beliefs/New Age etc.

and all i can say is i've met many kinds of "vegetarian" in my "industry". back 2001 hindi pa "uso" yan. and vegetarianism wasn't that mainstream. pag nalaman nila vegetarian ka, automatic isip nila na new age person ka.

but now iba na ang takbo.

but anyway, pag vegetarian it does not automatically mean you're healthy. dami ko nakitang nagkakasakit.

some say its karma. well, i know of someone who's killed so many people and yet lived to almost 100.

meron namang akong nakilala, vegetarian nga, pero breakfast niya lagi is 12 eggs, sunny side up. I wonder how he is now.

ang masasabi ko na lang is --what rocks your boat, but do it correctly.

go deep into it. make research. basta complete ang nakukuha mong nutrients, there's no reason na mag fail ang health mo.

minsan problem is, makukuha ba lahat sa pinas? sometimes when we read books, or go online, the kinds of food they use can't be found in pinas. so kelangan talaga maghanap ng substitute. and cooks/chefs/hobbyists keep secrets.

and so far, minsan, parang im leaning na din na hindi pwede ang vegetarianism sa lahat,

Hi girls do you have recipe to create vegemeat? Ang layo kasi ng banawe for me eh.

mahirap gumawa ng traditional vegemeat. it will be like washing a few pairs of jeans with your own bare hands to come up with a fist sized vegemeat. you will have knead and knead and knead. kaya bili ka na lang ng marami and put them in the freezer.

there's a house that sells frozen and dried vegemeat sa Estrella Edsa inside Palm Village. Sage pangalan ng business nila. They are the ones supplying frozen vegemeats sa SM supermarket. I have their contact numbers if your interested

Hi sis, thank you ah. I went to their home-based kanina. I bought some goodies na ready to eat na.. So far comparing the vegiemeat from bodhi. Back to the original plan, dadayo nga talaga ako sa Banawe. hehe

They have several frozen products.. which do you like best? nakita ko din yung magic meat.. Dry pala siya I thought its frozen.. planning to try that soon.

hmm has anyone tried the vegiemeat in San Juan?

^ hi sis. for me I like them better and is more convenient for me to go there instead sa Chinatown.
They almost have the same products din naman eh. Usually Vegefoods, Varona etc yung mga products din sa Banawe so I opted to go to Sage..

I think my sister did go to Country Vegie one time kaso nga lang it is just too out of the way for them rin so they just stuck with Sage. The dried vegemeat or Meat magic is cooked by boiling water with salt and dropping it there, let it sit covered until it is tender. You have to wash it with running water after then squeeze the excess water before marinating/frying/cooking. Mas matipid siya kesa sa frozen kasi nag-eexpand siya like almost twice the size when it is cooked.

^thanks for replying sis, Its really helpful. :)

Honestly minsan pag bumibili ako ng take-out sa Bodhi - megamall, madalas umaasim siya when I go home. I dont know kung napapanis siya or what eh.. Minsan naman okay. Kaya Im planning to buy my own Vegiemeat para di sayang ang pera.

^ no worries sis.

Omg sis, for me opposite tayo. I'd rather eat sa Mongolian Quick stop, Sbarro..the likes and order anything meat-free than there hehe :P and so so lang bbq nila.

are you near QC ba? if you are, you gotta try Greens restaurant. My fellow vegetarian friends have tried almost all veggie restaurants in and out of Manila and Greens is still the best kasi very flavorful and feeling mo hindi vegetarian yung dishes (and not because friends namin yung may-ari ha :P )..even my dad who is a meat-head says so. their bbq is good too and I have a friend cook na vegetarian din who makes the best veggie bbq in the whole world!  ;D kaso as usual, puro secret recipes nya :P

BTW does anyone knows if vegemeat is high in calorie??
I know its a meat substitute pero baka kasi nakakataba din siya in some sort.

Same here mga sis, it's not that i don't like Bodhi. I dislike their Fresh Lumpia :-\ , super tamis ng sauce at may asukal pang included sa grind nuts na nilalagay nila on top. Diabetes and ending ko nun LOL  :P .

Dr.Tam? is he the one na nasa Salamat Doc? Nakita ko rin siya sa ANC Greenliving. I haven't to eat at their vegan restaurant, malayo ang Ortigas sa akin.

^^Sis calin22 , paano pumunta ng Dr.Tam's restaurant if i'm coming from SM megamall or Shangrila? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated  :) .

^hmm havent tried the lumpia of Bodhi.. But usually i don''t really put sauce on my lumpiang sariwa kasi mas gusto ko siyang gulay gulay lang. :)

Yung sa maybunga, medyo complicated kung di ka familiar sa lugar but you can take the FX-PasigFloodway, daan yun ng Dr. Tams (Maybunga). Landmark mo dun yung RainForest and RTU-Pasig.

Back to the topic: went to banawe kanina with my fam.. :) Nagstock na ako ng Vegiemeats, mas mura siya compare sa SAGE, though mas malapit nga lang si SAGE for me. Balik nalang ako ulit siguro sa Banawe for the generic vegiemeat (yung walang brand), mas mura kasi yun compare dun sa mga branded na nabili ko.

Will try Pipino Jupiter Makati Branch this week! :) bukas na siya since yesterday..
