Doc, san po best magpa vitrectomy?

We consulted a doctor sa medical city ortigas, 150k-180k daw cost, then another doctor sa Eye Referral center in manila said 80k. Ang layo ng price. Both doctors are retina speciialist. 50+ years old yung sa ERC while around early 40's sa med city.

Both of the doctors said the included na ang philhealth and senior citizen discount sa price at both have seen the OCT result.
May massuggest ba kayong hospital and/or doctor para dun na kame pa opera?

Thanks in advance.

@koolitai

You asked : "Doc, san po best magpa vitrectomy?". Is price a factor? Is location a factor? Like in many things, the "best" and the "cheapest" rarely coincide.

i have no idea lang po kasi kung magkano ang range talaga ng ganung operation, baka kasi tama ngang 80k ang price tapos overpricing lang ang medical city since asa ortigas area sila and mas maganda bldg nila.

another question, usual na po ba sa pinas yung ganung operation?

thanks in advance.

Been suffering with this for almost 2 mos now :( na iv na din po Ako and oral medications from 3x a day of 10mg until 5mg once a day..kaya Lang po pag lower na yung dosage bumabalik sa dati as in no vision yung left eye ko.. Kaya back to zero na Naman po.. I'm worrying Kasi been searching about the prednisone yung side effects Nya
in the long run is not good :(  I'm gain so much weight taking it its okey sana if I'm totally okey kaya Lang on and off and my ophta advised me to start again to higher dosage of pred.

@snove_12

Unfortunately, I am not a neuro ophthalmologist. I assume your current ophtha is one? As far as I know, steroids are REALLY needed. IV steroids are very important. As for oral, I am not sure.

@koolitai
I think what you have is already the range. Part of the price difference is the experience of the doctor and the hospital costs. May I suggest that you go for the reputation of the doctor and not the price of the procedure.

Hi dr. Ritchie, asking for opinion lang, di ba Hindi normal sa baby (6 months up) ang nagko-cross eye. Napapasin ko kasi sa son ko (he's turning 2 this march) na nagko-cross eye pa rin sya, especially if tutok sya sa bagay na tinititigan nya. Is it alarming na ba?

@April30
I think it's best you bring your child to a pediatric ophthalmologist. Stop observing it by yourself and just do it for the sake of your child. If it's nothing, then you now have peace of mind :)

@twelve5
Watching TV in the dark is okay. Parang movie lang. Ocuvite is a supplement for people who have AGE RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION. Not for anything else.

Hi doc! Question lang, san pinakamurang trabeculectomy? My sis had her surgery (1st eye) last wk sa american eye for 47k covered pa ng medicard but yung isang eye nya due for surgery din hindi na covered so we're looking for cheapest. Thanks in advance!

You are most welcome!

@GooglerPrincess
The cheapest would be the charity service of a government hospital (such as PGH). Among the government hospitals, PGH would have the most experienced residents in terms of number of patients seen and surgeries done. This naturally means that they have the longest lines.

You are most welcome! Good Luck!

@dominique23
If you're asking for food supplements that will make your grado go down so you can see better... wala talaga.

If you are asking for food supplements that will help age related macular degeneration (dry type)... that would be Ocuvite (it's the one used in the clinical trials).

If you're asking for food supplements that will help against xerophthalmia, then medical grade Vitamin A would help.

Hi Dr. Richie,

Can you recommend an Eye MD in Makati Med or Asian?  Recently notice ko na pag malayo mas clear ang tingin ko at nadadalas na ang sakit ng ulo ko. :'(

Please PM me.

TIA!

Hi.
I bought a pair of CL and had my eye checked sa EO. They said 225 na yung eye grade ko ( computer and opto ). Yung eye glasses ko is 175 pero sabi nila ok pa daw yun. Ganun po ba talaga? Mas mataas ang grado pag CL kesa glasses? I thought its the other way around. Hope you can answer. Thanks in advance
