I'll be honest and say that no, it's not easy. There are many young people (mostly in school/university) who work while studying and customer service are hospitality are the main industries they get work in. Aside from students there are many people who work in these industries as there aren't much skills/experience needed to work in these areas. So there is hardly any shortage in staff in these industries.

I have no way to tell if it's easy to get a job in your field. Pero since upswing naman na ang economy, it might be easier than during the recession.

Question Lang, just need info Lang about this.

My mom already sent last Friday via ems a package, I chose the ordinary since di naman madalian. The box weight is 11 kilos. According sa philpost, it will take 2 to 3 weeks daw bago dumating dito and post ofc here will notify me daw.

Ang question ko is meron ba custom tax pagdating dito? 4 pc small Shampoo, 2 nivea lotion, 1 pack of safeguard, a pair of kids shoes and for me and some few clothes laman... As far as I  recall.

Tapos declared naman daw lahat kaso yng value Nia pinalagay na gawin P3k daw para di daw ma tax pagdating dito. Bago Lang mom ko sa ganito so sinunod Nia Lang sabi kanya.

Just worried [textspeak!] kasi Yoko naman ma hassle din pagdating dito ng package.


One more thing, I'm planning to send a 2 box of shoes sa mom ko sa pinas... Sa qc. Pag dumating ba dun package me custom tax ba? I've hearing kasi from others even if they declare as a gift tinatax daw eh. Has anyone nagsend na ng ganito? (not a balikbayan) I wnt to send it kasi as my mothers gift....

^Sis, yung EMS is via air, walang siyang sub-classification na "ordinary".  It is a classification in itself (Express Mail Service) unless you mean you sent it by Air or Sea Parcel, which are the 2 other categories.  If it's via EMS, it will be delivered to your door, no taxes to pay here.  I've read that if it's Sea Parcel, you will claim it from Customs then you might have to pay taxes.

Sending stuff to the Philippines is expensive, especially the ones with tracking which is highly recommended knowing our post in Pinas.  It could cost you $100+ for the parcel alone.  Tapos if it's registered parcel, they'll have to pick it up at the Post Office and then of course, they will be taxed (grrr).  If it's the most expensive kind of parcel (I forgot but Express International yata ang tawag), it will be delivered by courier directly to your house BUT I am not sure kung mata-tax pa rin.  Either way, the mailing cost just for 2 pairs of shoes is probably more than the cost of the shoes themselves.  The best way actually is to send an entire balikbayan box:

Pros: Just pay $100 or so for a whole balikbayan box, regardless of weight and contents.  No customs fees / taxes to be paid in the Philippines and would be delivered right at your doorstep (may pa-picture pa ang iba as proof of receipt hehe).

Cons: There are identified shipment schedules and it could take from 3-5 weeks depending on your courier.

^^sa philippines, anything more than US$50 tina-tax nila.  I bought stuff from international shopping sites for my mineral makeup before.  I always make sure na hindi mag-exceed sa $50 or else you'll have to pay taxes before mo makuha yung package mo sa post office.

Dito sa australia, maximum is worth $1,000 AUD bago ka nila i-tax.  Nagpa-ship ako dati ng box via EMS last time, I didn't pay any tax.  Nilagay din sa description personal effects.

@ snow25 - thank you too for sharing infos. Ang question ko lang is nung nagpa ems ka here, door to door ba delivery sayo or you. Pick it up sa post? Kasi yng sa kin according to my mom, pick up ko daw sia sa post once they notify me. Kaya I ask. Then bago pinadala dito pinadeclare daw sa mom ko total value nung padala nia is P3000 para daw di i-tax dito. But according to her, more than 5k daw yun. Sinunod Nia lang daw advice nung nag assist sa kanya. 1st time lang din namin sa ems.

@ snow25 & port80 - just talked to my mom and according to her, by sea parcel sia lumalabas. And it will take 2-3 weeks bago dumating sa kin and have to pick it up daw. Normally ba sa Australia Post near sa min  ang pick nun?

^Tama si sis snow25 -- they only tax here nga pala if it's $1000 and above.  So don't worry about it
