ganun ba sis? hehe. i am trying to apply online. baka swertihin lang naman. kung hindi makakakuha ng work before july, then that will be our initial entry only. balik na lang kami para mag-for good kung summer/spring na para hindi naman kami masyadong mabigla sa lamig at hindi masyadong mahirapan kapag naghahanap na ng work.  we have a 3-yr old in tow by then, kaya goodluck na lang sa amin. 

available kaya diyan ang Progress milk? hindi ko kasi alam kung magbabaon kami o no need na. yung paghahanap ng daycare ba ay madali lang?

Naku sis I have no idea kung may progress dito.  Wala pa kasi akong baby hehe.  Puro S-26 lang ang nakikita ko sa grocery.  Ewan ko sa chemist (drugstore) kung meron.  Anyway, check if you can bring in milk because Australia is very, very, very as in super strict on bringing in of food and drinks, especially dairy.  Baka ma-contaminate kasi ang kanilang agriculture.  You can't even bring in plant and animal products.  Check this website for what you can and cannot bring in:

Yung mga pupunta dito sa Oz na may drivers license wag kayo magparenew. Kahit pa expire na. Kung PR ka, kuha ka ng certification from LTO at DFA kung kelang year first issued license nyo para di na kayo mag L or P plates.
Also hanapin nyo yung katumbas ng LTO kung sang state kayo pupunta. Vicroads for vic at rta for nsw. And read na about their road rules. Ü

i think, if the rules have not changed ha, a PR holder can use his Philippine Driver's License for 3 months (from the day of arrival).

Yes, hindi ka na dadaan ng L or P. BUT to get your australian license, you have to pass the exam, both practical and theory. AND may waiting time sa exams and the line could extend up any where from 1-3 months.

after na-check ng LTO counterpart yung Philippine license  (i just showed my original expired license to prove kung kelan yung first issue [yep, dala ko silang lahat]) and after passing the theoretical exam, magissue sila ng Learners permit (L) so you can take the practical exam. if you're still in the 3 month period, baka hindi mo na kailangan ng learners permit.

if you're confident and sure you can get everything done in 3 months. then go ahead. don't have your license renewed.

knock on wood, lumagpas kayo ng 3months, dahil

a)natagalan kayo mag exam (say, have to take further lessons);
b)mahabang waiting period
c) failed the exam and have to take further lessons or wait for the next exam;
d) etc...

pano na yan? ang validity ng Learners permit relies on the validity of your Philippine License. How will you take the exam/lessons kung ichecheck ng examiner/instructor yung validity ng phil license?

magkakano lang naman magparenew? I suggest, magsigurado na... have it renewed. i don't think you can have some one renew your license in the Philippines.

besides, sometimes you need photo id and the license gives additional assurance when showed side by side with your Philippine passport. (that is kapag bago ka palang sa Aus at wala ka pang company id etc.)

^^Thanks bro, very relevant post.  I was just about to ask for the process on how to get an Oz license because I just realized my Phil. driver's license is expiring next week on my birthday.  As a 457, I really don't have to apply for a WA license but now I need to, otherwise I won't be able to drive around.  Waah, stressful to kasi hate ko talaga driving (it scares me hehe) tapos kailangan pa mag-exam huhuhu.

no worries sis. remember, we are dealing with Transfer of License here. One can opt to forgo the Transfer of License scheme and start from the very beginning (thus hindi na mag depend on the Philippine License.)

dadaan ka lang nga sa L plate, log book (logging of travel time and distance), another test forgot the name, plus P plate.

and kapag nalaman nila na hindi ka naglessons, pahihirapan ka nila. this is something na unspoken.

just take a few, 1-3x. kasi minsan pag nag flunk ang student, baka irecommend na mag lessons muna

just to add,

the validity of an international license (from Pinas, Automobile Association of the Philippines, formerly known as PMA.) will also rely on the validity of the Philippine LTO license.

its best to contact the LTO counter part sa state na patutunguan ninyo. why? the laws always change. before the big influx of migrants (2007) madali lang mag transfer of license. wala nang practical exam.but dahil dumami ang tao, well...you know the rest.

If you can get the LTO / DFA certificate that says you have had your licence for at least 3 years, you can renew. BUT if you are entering as a PR, that licence will only be valid in Oz for 3 months starting on the day you step on Oz soil.

A common problem friends encountered when they did not get the LTO/DFA cetificate and renewed their licence before travelling to Oz was that it was hard for them to prove that they have had their licence for 3 years.

What that means is that, in Vic for example, after you pass the road rules, hazard perception and practical exam, you will only be issue a green P license. If you have proof that you have at least 3 years you can get a full licence.

Bottom line, if you have plans of driving in Oz and you have had your PH licence for at least 3 years, make sure you get that LTO/DFA certificate.

I was lucky enough to get my full licence 1 day before my 3months allowance expired.

If you have a 457 visa, your PH licence can be used in Oz as long as it is not expired without any 3 month limit.

Meaning, if your 457 visa is valid for 2 years, you can use your unexpired PH licence for the same length of time in Oz.
IF you are already in Oz, I believe you can renew your PH licence. Read up http://www.lto.gov.ph/dls_faq.html

I just showed them my old license and with receipt. (nakalimutan ata nila kunin) they honored the first license naman. I had to prove that i have been driving for more than 5 years.

but better be safe and get the certificate. kasi minsan, pag tinopak ang LTO, 2 years lang ang ibibigay. so kung 2 years yung expiring license niyo, better get the certificate.

Hi GTalkers! I'm back after 4 days of gathering with hubby's family in Sydney. Sobrang namiss nila ang aking anak.

Sis cinderella, walang progress milk dito unfortunately. Konti lang ang milk brand varieties dito kumpara sa Pinas. When babies reach 12 months, nililipat na sa fresh cow's milk ang mga bata. Your kiddo will be alright with the fresh milk naman kasi 3 years old na. Dalhan mo na lang ng vitamins nya. Pero hindi ka mamumuroblema kasi fresh ang mga pagkain dito at kahit veggies ay naturally matatamis.

Tanong ka lang if you still have questions. Maganda at mahaba-habang preps kayo. Good luck!

pansin ko nga rin, konti choices ng powdered milk. okay mga fresh milk nila dito.

mga Sis, what brand of navigator is good but not so expensive? something that is very reliable and an option where you can choose to drive e.g. main road or highway and an option to avoid toll expressway. im currently using unbranded one. i usually get confused while driving kase parang drawing lang yung mga lines sa nav. mas ok kase pag parang road na mismo then you can even see yung parang actual like kung ilan yung lanes, pati shape ng road etc...thanks

TomTomm or Garmin are the most popular. May TomTom na u can get for below 200 pero walang lane guidance (image on which lane to take) or text to speech (spoken street names) - mas madali lang buhay kung may lane guidance pero madalas mga higher end models lang meron.
I use TomTom on my iPhone though.

salamat sa mga inputs nyo. ang dami! hehe. overwhelming ang preps pati magbasa kaya kailangan kong i-cut and paste ang lahat para basahin ulet offline.  pero salamat ng marami talaga sa info as well as well-wishes. 

thanks sis lalei, sa info about the milk. dapat ko na sigurong i-train itong anak ko to drink fresh milk kahit before bedtime man lang para hindi siya biglang manibago.

another question... i heard na strict ang Au with regards to CDs/DVDs. may child has lots of educational CDs kasi na kung saan-saan lang namin binili. therefore, i couldn't bring it in, di ba? taka lang ako kasi i ordered baby einstein CDs through ebay which i don't think are originals, but it came from Australia. how is that so???

What you can do to avoid any problems is to buy a portable hard drive then save everything there.  Or you can risk it -- a couple of my workmates brought in hundreds of pirated DVDs from a trip in Bali but they got away with it.  As in a suitcase full ha.  But then again, they're white Aussies so baka mas maluwag sa kanila, we'll never know.

regarding CDs. well kanya kanyang experience diyan. may nakakapag dala at nasita at walang nangyari, meron ayaw magdala. to each his own.

personally, nakapagdala na ako ng CDs/DVDs.  may dala pa akong 50 pc DVD container na tipong isang dangkal yung tangkad. no problems. lagi pa akong may dalang external Hard Drive.

but better be safe than sorry. huwag mag dala. i tried to have my original CDs sent here naman via Philpost, ayaw nila ng CDs/DVDs

but then again, if they know its your first time to enter australia. they will really check your stuff. but hey, dadaan naman sa xray so they'll know kung DVDs.

naalala ko tuloy yung brand new rubber shoes ko na nakita nila sa bag ko. baka daw kung saan ko daw naiyapak. sabi ko "its brand new, smell it!"
