What to Expect in a Pedia-allergologist visit?

^^ thank you doc sa reply. sa first visit kasi namin, may 3 page information sheet kami na fill up regarding family health history/background plus yung home environment nya. Doon nagsimula yung discussion namin sa first visit like ako raw ano work ko baka raw may nadadala ako na allergens sa house, inisa isa namin yung mga family members na nakaka interact ni baby everyday, and pinadescribe yung ambience sa house etc.

but I believe na cause nga po ng urticaria yung respiratory infections. dahil sa ulan this week, nagka sipon si baby, naglabasan na naman rashes. we went back to TMC, pina inom na ng prednisolone syrup, plus Zyrtec, plus antibiotics.

doc lelet: may I ask what we should do as tempo relief to my 10-month old baby who coughs hard (parang dry cough pero malalim na ubo). Feeling ko may plemang di nya mailabas. her pedia kasi will not return from vacation until 2nd wk of january.  it worsened after new year due to the smoke of firecrackers outside our house. Di naman sya lumabas ng bahay pero medyo mausok.  Is doing ventolin/saline solution 3x a day ok already? Prior to this incident kasi she was already having the cough and sneezing for 2 weeks na. Naabutan ng holidays..

Mukhang di naman sya nahihirapan huminga, just concerned with the worsening dry cough. TIA!

Pasensya na, but it would be wrong for me to give advice on how to treat cough/colds without a proper history and physical examination. Please don't get me wrong. I am not telling you to bring your child to me for consult. What I am saying is that before doctors give medications, it would be better to properly examine the patient para at least may proper basis kung bakit nagbigay or magbibigay ng certain medications. Kawawa ang bata kung maling gamot ang ibinigay because of incomplete history and no physical examination.

i understand doc. brought baby to a pedia pulmo na rin.  told me it is allergy thats causing it.

hi dok lelet..ask ko lang po accredited po ba kayo sa phil care? kasi meron po ang son ko phil care ,, plan ko po puunta sayo papa check up ko po si baby sayo sana .. kasi po buwan buwan ang ubo at sipon stress ma po ako kakisip ng mga dahilan,,sabi po nlla stop ko pag gaamit ng fab con, mossquito repllant etc,,,

^^ sis tawag ka sa front desk/reception ng TMC. They can give you the info you're looking for. May pedia derma doon pero isa lang ata siya. Nag inquire rin kasi ako before and nakabakasyon si pedia derma at that time.

pedia allergologist madami doon. they can give you the clinic schedules of the doctors too.

Pedia allergologists see problems of the skin related to allergies and immunologic diseases (ex. skin asthma, urticaria/angioedema, recurrent boils/skin infections related to skin asthma or to immunodeficiency diseases). If it is not allergic in nature, then it might be best to consult a pedia derma.
Sa TMC, the pedia allergologists holding clinic there are: Dr. Carmela Kasala, Dr. Eileen Cuajungco, and Dr. Michelle De Vera.

Hi there Leletmd!  I'd like to ask your opinion sana whether I should see a pedia allergologist or not.  I have 2 pedias that I maintain, one is the general pedia doctor that I go to for shots and a pedia derma whom I go to for my daughter's skin asthma concerns.  Most of the time when my daughter has a cough or cold, I go directly to the pedia derma because I feel that he can address my concern better (he knows that my daughter has skin asthma) but the problem is - he's not an on call doctor.  So last week, when my daughter had an allergy attack, I had to no choice but to call my general pedia.  We went to the ER and my general pedia spoke to the doctors there, since the hives were all over the body - they decided to give her oral Prednisone para daw mawala ang mga pantal.  After an hour, it semi-went away and we were sent home.  The next morning, we went to the pedia derma and I showed him pictures he told me that is called URTICARIA.  He just told us to give Xyzal for maintenance for a week.  And if the Urticaria happens again and its severe to give oral Prednisone.

Now - I'm praning.  SHOULD I SEE a pedia allergologist?  Or OA lang ako?

Since your child has skin asthma along with possible urticaria, I suggest you have her evaluated by a pedia allergologist para madetermine what her triggers are and it will be easier for you to manage her symptoms.

What do you mean by allergies? Allergy involving the skin, nose, lungs, intestines, etc? There are lots of different kinds of allergies kasi. Please be more specific so we know how to help you...
At what age did your child receive the PCV? Baka kasi nagkataon lang ang pagsunod ng symptoms from the PCV vaccine.
What meds have been given to your child? How many days are the meds usually given? Is it given as needed (when the symptoms occur) or for a specific period of time, like, for example, 1 week or so?

Hi doc lelet! I would like to ask your opinion about my son's case. Last year, summer din nagstart yung allergies nya. Ang ubo nya yung tipong may gustong ilabas pero no phlegm at all. Last year, we visited an allergologist, binigyan sya ng inhaler saka anti histamine. Problem is, hindi naman gumana. Everyday ganun pa din sya until July nawala na lang yung allergies nya. Ngayon its summer season ulit, anjan na naman yung allergies. What could this be?
