^Hi, I've tried using Joy Anti-Bac already, madami na rin kasi ako mga Niece and Nephews and they've used it too, also I add Rock Salt pa rin sa cleaning.  We still used the traditional cleaning using Rock Salt to be believed as nakaka-alis talaga talaga sya bacteria. Agree din ako sa CRADLE, which I've tried using before, kaso medyo pricey, but mabango sya. :)

i bought messy bessy sa trinoma. P440 yung 2L nila, sa sa may SESOU stall.tapos P180 yata yung maliit na may pump, i forgot ilan ml, di ko kase binili.  messybessy.com ata ang website nila, not sure. google mo na lang sis.  Peppermint scent pero after banlaw wala na rin [textspeak!] minty scent. thick ang consistency. mas gusto ko sya kesa sa cradle na anglabnaw. and although sabi dun na naaalis yung foul smell like spoiled milk, hindi naman. 24 hours ko na nga binababad di din agad naalis. but if you put  put more per liter perhaps it will remove the scent. pero maaksaya naman kung ganun so i switched.

i tried my pedia loves me, 225 per liter without pump kaso plus shipping pa so mas mahal, since nagpupunta naman ako mall dun nako bumili ng available bottle cleanser. so far i'm liking messy bessy.

i also bought mess out, P150 at or 149.  sa landmark trinoma grocery. di ko pa ginagamit hehe.

Hi everyone! Not sure if there's a post that is purely dedicated to this topic...if so please just redirect me because I can't seem to find it :)

I am exclusively bfeeding directly and would like to start pumping and storing bm for when I'm away from baby. I think I have most of the "paraphernalia" needed already thanks to all the posts I've backread - medela PISA, evenflo storage bottles, Looney tunes sterilizer, BPA-free bottles, bottle cleanser, bottle brush, and even a basin to use exclusively for these items...problem is I don't know where and how to start!

* Sorry if medyo common sense lang ang kailangan, just want to be sure na tama ang gagawin ko baka kasi kumpleto nga ako sa equipment palpak naman sa execution  :( please help!

some questions to start with:

- how to sterilize the pump and how often?
- steps in cleansing, sterilizing and storing bottles?
- sabi ng husband ko, kung nasterilize na lahat tapos itatago before use, eh di dapat daw yung container sterile din? naisip ko ok lang kung "sealed" naman like yung bottles nakacover naman so hindi exposed yung interior ng bottles...pero pano yung breastpump? dapat ba sterilize din yung lock and lock na lalagyan ko?

thanks in advance!!!

I am also exclusively breastfeeding my 2 month old daughter pero I pump milk everyday so she can get used to the bottle for when I get back to work.

- I wash my breastpump after every use and I sterilize it at the end of the day.
- After using each bottle, I rinse them tapos wash all of the bottles we've used at the end of the day. I use Cradle bottle and nipple cleanser.
- I have a Chicco sterilizer that I use for the bottles and the breastpump. After sterilizing them, I just leave them inside for a couple of hours then transfer them to a rack for drying.
- When everything's dried, I put them in a plastic box with lid. I also make sure that the box is cleaned every other day and that it's really dry before I put the bottles and the pump inside.
- Since the box that I use to hold the container is not sterilized, when it's time to use the bottles na I havent used for a long time, I do a quick rinse using Dr. Edward's water.

I dont know if the other moms here use sterilized containers. Parang it's a bit over the top for me :)

when i was still pumping milk..
after every pump..i keep the pump sa ref.. we have a personal ref na tubig lang and tetrapacks ng juice and breastmilk lang ang laman.. walang meat or veggies inside.. pero i still keep the pump sa isang ziplock bag..
the pump is washed and sterilized once a day.. when sterile and clean i still keep it in a ziplock bag and inside the ref pa din. i change the zip lock bag mga 2 to 3 days.. ( i have 2 ziplock bags inside the ref.. one for the used pump..tapos 1 for sterilized pump.. tapos switch ko na after 2 to 3 days)
we have an avent isis manual pump and chicco sterilizer

ang routine naman namin sa bottles is quite different with twelvth goddess..
pagkatapos ma-sterilize the bottles we assemble it na agad while it's still warm/hot. nipple + ring + bottle + cover + water.
prepared/assembled na lahat para lalagyan na lang ng formula..we rotate the bottles since we have plenty..parang we have a total of 12 bottles ngayon. nagkaron kasi ng phase ang anak ko na maya't maya nagmi-milk sya.. eh ngayon naging mahina sya mag milk.

mahigpit ako sa yaya noon pag naglilinis... tapos nagkaron ng time na naging lenient ako sa yaya hinde ko na na-che-check.. nagka-amoebiasis si gianna..  kasi ang ginagawa nya pala..pagkasterilize nya binabalik nya sa planggana na pinanggalingan ng newly washed bottles..so may mga wisik wisik pa din ng tubig yun..so after that..ako na naghuhugas at nag sterilize ng bottles nya..kesehodang pagod na ako from work.. mas mapapagod ako kung magkakasakit anak ko.

hi sis! one month lang kame mixed feeding so hindi ako masyadong expert dito. pero during those days na nagpupump ako, eto yung ginagawa ko:

- after ko gamitin yung pump, iwawash na sya, then i-sterilize na. tapos iaassemble ulit yung parts ng wipes then itatago muna. kukunin ko nalang, if it's time to use the pump na

Thanks for sharing sis twelth_goddess and liyapot :)

Actually it never occured to me to sterilize the containers too, kaya when my husband mentioned it wala akong nasagot kaya I thought best to ask na din baka naman di ko lang naisip :)

- Will follow your lead and sterilize the pump at the end of the day. I'll try washing after every use, but if the interval between sessions is short, siguro ref na lang

- thanks for emphasizing the importance of drying everything thoroughly before storing, will keep that in mind :) we have the looney tunes sterilizer with dryer, di ko pa lang sure how effective the dryer is pero based on the reviews ok naman daw so hopefully we'll eliminate that issue....sis liyapot, kainis naman yung yaya mo :(

another question - how many storage bottles should i have at the very least? kasi i'll use two na nakakabit sa pump (kasi PISA yung pump ko), tapos pwede ko naman pagsamahin yung nakuha ko before ilagay sa ref right? so yung isa (bottle 1) nasa ref na tapos meron pang isa (bottle 2), pero sa next session ko kailangan ng isa (bottle 3) pa for the other pump, tapos after that session pwede ko ba ihalo yung napump ko sa first bottle na nasa ref na? so that means i'll be using 3 bottles lang hanggang macollect ko yung desired amount sa first bottle?  sorry nakakalito na ba? :)

thanks again! and thanks also sa patience :)

THanks also for sharing sis :) ok din ba ang mess out? i always see cradle lang kasi tapos i saw another brand online, Sweet Tots Organic Bottle Cleanser, has anyone tried this?

Kitikiti, I asked a similar question before sa breastfeeding thread. You may want to check that thread din. But this is what i do. I pump and store milk to be fed to baby the next day but i also feed her formula because i dont get enough breastmilk. I dont direct feed kasi, pump lang.

Pump, i use an avent isis duo:
- pump parts get sterilized once a day. In between pumping sessions, i keep them in the fridge.
- i use a lock and lock container for my pump parts. Everyday, when the pump parts get washed and sterilized, the lock & lock container also gets sterilized using hot water. We fill a little over half of it with boiling water, seal it and let it stand for a few minutes then baliktarin so the top half also gets sterilized.
- when in the ref, the pump parts are also in this same lock & lock container.
- i dont always wait for pump parts to dry after sterilizing before i use them. Sa makati med kasi when i used the pump at their nursery, sabi ng nurses ok lang daw yon kasi sterile naman, moisture yung nasa loob from the sterilization. Pero wisik wisik na lang para mabawasan yung water.

Feeding bottles, we use avent and dr browns:
- after they get sterilized, they are dried in a drying rack.
- pag dry na, they are assembled and stored in a lock & lock container, which is sterilized in the same way as the container i use for pump parts, every other day.

Breastmilk storage bottles, i use avent via cups:
- i use avent via cups for collection and storage. At least 2 cups always get sterilized with the pump parts because i use these for collection.
- other cups are sterilized as necessary, minsan sinasabay with a batch of feeding bottles, like when the baby is fed breastmilk, the cup that held the milk will be sterilized with the next batch.
- all cups are also stored in a lock & lock container until it's time to use them.
- i have 3 boxes of this, 10 cups in a box. 1 box pa lang nakabukas. Not sure how many storage bottles is ideal.
- nung una, when i'd only get less than an ounce per session, i normally mixed milk from 2-3 pumping sessions in one via cup as long as they are all the same temperature na.
- now, i use 1 container per pumping session. I average about 40-60 ml lang per session eh.
- i suggest you store milk in 2-4oz portions lang, depends on how much your baby takes in a feeding. Even if you get more than 4oz from one pumping session, do not store all in one container kasi sayang naman qto thaw the milk in large portions only tapos hindi din mac-consume ni baby lahat. You cant return this to the ref.
- when it's time to feed breastmilk to baby, i take out the cup from the fridge, dip it in hot water then pour to a feeding bottle.

Good luck.

Will try this after I finish my supply of Cradle :)

yup storage bottles na lalagyan ng expressed BM :) Right now I have the 4 bottles that came with my pump plus 8 pcs ng evenflo. these bottles are all compatible with my pump so i can rotate them naman. Try ko na lang muna how it goes and add more bottles as my supply increases :) thanks, will post my questions regarding BM collection and storage in the breastfeeding thread.

Sis clueless, thanks for your detailed response also! :) naliwanagan ako lalo. will also follow your container sterilization technique para masatisfy din ang concern ni hubby :)

Kitikiti, you won't regret getting that Looney Tunes sterilizer with dryer.  I found it very convenient.

Bottle cleaning tips I can share:

1.  When cleaning the teats, aside from soaping and scrubbing, put some water into the teat, press the base against your palm and squeeze the soapy water through the holes para pati yung holes malinis.  Hindi kasi yan nalilinis ng brush and milk residue can get trapped in them.  Do the same when rinsing.

2.  In case hindi nahugasan agad ang bottles, it's good to soak them in white vinegar + water solution before washing.  This strips off the milk fats from the bottles and accessories which make them cloudy.  A good alternative is baking soda (which I used for a long time), but I find vinegar more effective (may natural antibacterial properties din ito).

On bottle wash, I have tried the following:
1.  baking soda + water
2.  vinegar + water
3.  Cradle
4.  Mess Out--I'm currently using this; it does the job and it's cheaper than Cradle, but the strawberry scent sticks to the teats even after several rinsing and sterilizing

Sis DV, any white vinegar would do? Like Datu Puti? Or is there a special kind sold in health food stores? Also how much dapat ang proportion ng water and vinegar? TIA!

^Any white vinegar would do.  I use Datu Puti.  I don't have an exact measurement.  I use an empty ice cream tub, so around 1/2 gal water : 1/2 cup vinegar.
