Kitikiti, I asked a similar question before sa breastfeeding thread. You may want to check that thread din. But this is what i do. I pump and store milk to be fed to baby the next day but i also feed her formula because i dont get enough breastmilk. I dont direct feed kasi, pump lang.
Pump, i use an avent isis duo:
- pump parts get sterilized once a day. In between pumping sessions, i keep them in the fridge.
- i use a lock and lock container for my pump parts. Everyday, when the pump parts get washed and sterilized, the lock & lock container also gets sterilized using hot water. We fill a little over half of it with boiling water, seal it and let it stand for a few minutes then baliktarin so the top half also gets sterilized.
- when in the ref, the pump parts are also in this same lock & lock container.
- i dont always wait for pump parts to dry after sterilizing before i use them. Sa makati med kasi when i used the pump at their nursery, sabi ng nurses ok lang daw yon kasi sterile naman, moisture yung nasa loob from the sterilization. Pero wisik wisik na lang para mabawasan yung water.
Feeding bottles, we use avent and dr browns:
- after they get sterilized, they are dried in a drying rack.
- pag dry na, they are assembled and stored in a lock & lock container, which is sterilized in the same way as the container i use for pump parts, every other day.
Breastmilk storage bottles, i use avent via cups:
- i use avent via cups for collection and storage. At least 2 cups always get sterilized with the pump parts because i use these for collection.
- other cups are sterilized as necessary, minsan sinasabay with a batch of feeding bottles, like when the baby is fed breastmilk, the cup that held the milk will be sterilized with the next batch.
- all cups are also stored in a lock & lock container until it's time to use them.
- i have 3 boxes of this, 10 cups in a box. 1 box pa lang nakabukas. Not sure how many storage bottles is ideal.
- nung una, when i'd only get less than an ounce per session, i normally mixed milk from 2-3 pumping sessions in one via cup as long as they are all the same temperature na.
- now, i use 1 container per pumping session. I average about 40-60 ml lang per session eh.
- i suggest you store milk in 2-4oz portions lang, depends on how much your baby takes in a feeding. Even if you get more than 4oz from one pumping session, do not store all in one container kasi sayang naman qto thaw the milk in large portions only tapos hindi din mac-consume ni baby lahat. You cant return this to the ref.
- when it's time to feed breastmilk to baby, i take out the cup from the fridge, dip it in hot water then pour to a feeding bottle.
Good luck.
