R.O.X. is a good start.  Find the bike you like/want.  It's a built bike so it has specs, copy the specs.  Go to Cartimar or Raon (Quiapo), show the specs you copied to the bike shops there.  I'm guessing somebody there will definitely give you a better deal.

Hi, would want to get into biking ... para join na rin ako with my hubby.  He's got another bike, so sabi niya I can use his old bike, kaya lang, parang too high for me, hindi ko maabot yung floor kahit naka-tiptoe na ako. Thanks!

^sis, punta ka sa Ross Cycles, hanapin mo si sam.. tell him friend ka ni Rissa ng MTBBabes .. yung naka pink na KHS kamo.. tell him kung ano ang budget nyo and ask kung ano ang magandang set up para dun..

^^sis, ano ang height mo.. depende kasi sa height yun size ng bike -- like for instance, i'm 5'1 -- and i'm using a size 13 na KHS.. yung friend ko na 4"11 she had a Jamis na size 12.
my fist bike was too big for me -- a size 15 (M) so hindi proper ang bike fit. hope this link helps.

@HappyMom:), regarding yung halos naka tip-toe kana di mo pa rin abot, in a simple way of saying, tama yung husband mo.  But while you're still not confident riding, you can lower the seat/saddle.  What feline13 suggest about bike size helps in finding the right match for your height.  But eventually, chances are as you progressed, you'll find the best seat height position is where you'll halos naka tip-toe na di pa rin abot.

@jenny_syngkit, sa totoo lang for 15-20k very decent na yung bike... assuming hindi ka dinaya.  Just don't expect the parts to be the latest.

@HappyMom:),
taga san ka? if you want, pwede kita i-meet sa Boni High St with my bike -- rounds tayo dun --
Kung hindi pa rin, baka mahirapan kang i-enjoy ang biking nun... but then again, I started with a big frame -- and when I got the hang of it, sold it for the right fit.

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I posted here. Anyway, I was able to finally buy a bike last December. It's pre-assembled. Bought it at Toby's. Hehe. For village use lang naman for the meantime. I'm happy with it, so far.

So far, I've used it twice palang since I've been pretty busy. Problem is that those 2 times that I went biking around our village, after like 15 minutes I'd get a really bad headache and then cold sweat. The first time this happened, I thought I was just dehydrated, so I drank water before and while I was already biking the second time, but it still happened. It's been a while since I biked and this never happened before. Our village also has a lot of hills. I'm not sure what causes this. I usually bike around 9am.

Hope you can give me advice on this. Thanks! :D

maraming factors sis eh..
few questions come to mind.. definitely not dehydration because you drank water the second time..

-- do you have a history of migraine?
-- how was your breakfast? are you well fueled before you did your ride?
-- could it be that you were taking short shallow breathes as it was getting harder on the uphills thus, not enough oxygen?
-- have you tried jogging on the same route (just to see if it would have the same effect?)
 -- was it too hot?

haven't experienced headaches though.. better to ask the doctor pa rin. HTH

-- do you have a history of migraine? - I think so.

-- how was your breakfast? are you well fueled before you did your ride? - hehe. I didn't eat breakfast yet since I was not yet hungry and I thought it wouldn't be good to eat before an exercise. hehe.

-- could it be that you were taking short shallow breathes as it was getting harder on the uphills thus, not enough oxygen? - this i'd have to observe. could it have caused it?

-- have you tried jogging on the same route (just to see if it would have the same effect?) - i dont jog though i know years ago i was able to bike already on that same route without any problems.

-- was it too hot? - not really since it was still early in the morning.

Thanks, Sis! :D

im glad to know that there is a thread for biking pala in GT. never crossed my miond to check on the sports and activities thread. I did biking even when I was a kid. started mountain biking less than 2 yrs ago but has to stop since i got pregnant. now that my kiddo is already 8 months old, i am back to trail biking. true na very challenging ang uphill, like pag talagang hirap na hirap na hininga mo but the best naman pag pababa na. iba ang feeling of accomplishment. I just have few questions though:

1. what is the best way to build endurance other than biking and biking. I sometimes feel my heart will blow up pag uphill ng sobra.

2. i always experience this since on average, my hubby and I bike for 4 hours average. masakit sa pempem kahit na makapal na pads ng leggings ko tapos mayron pa akong cycling shorts sa loob na may pads. how do u endure long hours of biking?

3. do u know a place (if possible online) kung saan i can order biking outfit? I've been looking for ground zero shorts for women pero madalang lang ako makakita ng fit sa akin at maganda design at the same time.

thanks mga sisses:)

started biking when i was a kid too but twas 2004 when i joined SanMigLight EnduroUrban Adventure and i fell in love.. will try to answer.
1. crosstrain with running sis.. or weightlifting (squats and deadlifts really helped for me) and focus on your breathing (paced breathing) sa mga uphills and pag hatawan ng pajakan..
2. sanayan lang sis. hehe. well, rests and stops during rides din.

@chingky, were you tired or out of breath when your headache started?  It could be na adjustment stage lang.  It's possible that it's been a long time that you didn't do any exercise (just assuming) then suddenly you pushed yourself a bit too much.  Baka you can avoid it by proper pacing lang.

@Hestia,
1. running, hiking, brisk walking, swimming and other cardio activities/exercise can help built stamina and endurance.  That's one way, another way is make use of your gears.  Kung kailangan mag-granny, use granny, huwag pilitin baka ma-blackout ka pa during uphills.

2. I often switch sitting positions, like sit normally, then sit on one butt-cheek for a few minutes (sometimes alternating between left and right).  Stand up for a few seconds.  These helps blood circulations and minimizes pain in the you know where.  During downhills on off-trails, I'm basically off-saddle, this is both for safety (high saddle set-up kasi ako) and avoids bouncing on the saddle (especially if you have a hardtail).  You can also experiment on saddle shapes and padding thickness or materials, some are more comfortable than others and that usually is a personal preference.  There are also "saddle cushions" you can buy.  These are like padded gloves for the saddle, they cost anywhere from 350-1500 pesos.  And lastly, like feline13 mentioned, sanayan lang.

3. Lakambini is a female specific outdoor brand.  You can find these in R.O.X., Habagat (SM Megamall), Conquer (Robinson's Pioneer), Bombproof (Robinson's Galleria), and other outdoor shops in Trinoma, Farmer's, and Market-Market.  But if I'm not mistaken, this brand is more attuned to hiking gears.  Not sure if they already have padded ones for cycling.  Another one would be Trifemme (at 21B Kamias Rd, Q.C.), they have some designs that are women specific.  And their price is usually cheaper than other stores, even cheaper than those in Quiapo and Cartimar.

sis,

granny by the way is the term used for the lowest gear sa bike mo na super gaan ang padyak.. kumbaga, so easy to pedal that your grandmother could ride it. :D
enjoy riding sis!

thanks sis feline and ben. It cost 750 php. I tried granny padyak na sis went we went to an uphill road in Clark, parang subic ang daan. ang gaan nga ng padyak pero super ngawit na ngawit and halos mapatid na hininga ko hahaha. I hope to be able to bike and join some tournaments not to win but to be with other lady bikers.
