@simplykristine: sis, how many times do you pump in a day ba? if you have trouble in getting your baby to latch on to your nipple, magpump ka muna to establish a steady production of breastmilk pag ok na tsaka mo try na direct feeding ulit si baby. ako din i also started sa pagpump ng BM muna kase my son had to stay in the incubator for one month so i cant directly breastfeed him. anyway, usually 3-4 times a day ako nagpupump nun so every 6-8 hours... every pump ko talagang inuubos ko yung milk hangang sa wala nang pumapatak na milk that way it will send a message to the brain to create more milk. after a couple of hours i would feel my breasts are starting to engorge na with milk. i also have low supply when i gave birth as in i could only pump as much as one spoonfull of milk then i got consistent with pumping til my supply increased. are you well hydrated ba? drink water as much as you can lalo na with the weather like ours eh talagang nakaka dehydrate din kase. get proper rest also.. are you stay at home mom ba? basta whenever the baby sleeps you try to sleep too, it really helps. sa una lang naman yan.. you have to establish a steady production of milk through consistent pumping then tuloy tuloy na.  ;D

@momsielurks: may nabibili ako nun sa babyland and babycompany na ziplock type na plastic bags for BM talaga.. maraming brands yun. whenever i store my milk in these bags i also put the date kung kelan ako nagpump. i also follow the rule na First In First Out meaning yung unang pinasok kong bag is ayun din ang una kong ilalabas para gamitin. isang bottle of freshly pumped milk is isang bag ha di ko pinaghahalo halo sa isang bag yung mga ibang milk na napump ko. i store it right away in the freezer if di muna gagamitin i put them in a big lock & lock container para di mahalo with other items in the freezer. the milk can last up to 3 mos. when defrosting it, i submerge it in warm water until mag thaw siya or i put a bag in the chiller the night before. make sure to consume milk within the day and dont put back na sa freezer. for unused milk thats placed in room temp for 2 hours and above i dispose na din kagad. if going out naman, i place the bags of milk in a mini cooler with ice packs para di mainitan. medyo hassle talaga pero worth it naman.   ;D

i also took prolacta or natalac before. 1-3 capsules every meal. i took fish oil supplements as well, so that my milk will have omega 3s/DHA for baby's brain development.  :)

^as long as malamig pa rin yung cooler and yung milk di naman kaagad. i check it from time to time pati mga tatlong ice packs yung nilalagay ko para sure. pag bahay yung pinupuntahan namin nakikilagay muna ko sa ref nila para sigurado. :)

thanks sis lexy. naku sis 2x nalang ako ngpupump in a day. tapos 1oz nalang per session both breasts na yun. sis, kahit ba ganun nalang ang milk na napupump ko, kapag ba ginawa kong 3-4hrs ang interval ng pagpump, may chance pa rin na dumami milk supply ko? or wala na talaga? thanks.

@simplykristine - sis, try mo ulit na 3-4 intervals kase nga supply and demand nga din and pag breastfeed. so pag dinalasan mo ang pag pump, it will send a message to the brain na tumataas ang demand ng milk so ang mangyayari the breast will produce more milk. try mo muna, sis, baka dumami ulit..  :)

@momsielurks - sis, when i was pregnant i was taking Optima Omega of Pharmanex.. there are a lot of brands of fish oil supplements naman but make sure lang that you get from a reputable source or kilalang brand so you'll know that its from the highest quality or pharmaceutical grade. madami sa healthy options o kaya sa gnc. try to google the benefits of omega 3/fish oil and you will be amazed with the results.  :)

Hi share ko lang.

Inverted nipple din ako kaya frustrated ang baby ko to latch on and lalo nako mas frustrated.  So nag tiyaga tlg ko mag pump parati every 3-4hours, kaht super konti lang ang milk na lumalabas, and pag madaling araw, super effort din ako mag pump after ko mag feed and burp sa baby ko, imagine the antok!  :o With that dumami ng dumami milk ko, plus drinking lots of liquid (water, soup, etc).

After I pump my milk, I store it in the ref, then when it's feeding time, we just warm it up in the bottle warmer.  Then hindi na binabalik sa ref pag hindi naubos.  I don't follow the time of the expiry of BM, kasi nung nag research ako, iba ang iba ang nakuha kong answers.  Sabi 1hour lang daw pag room temp, iba sabi 2hrs daw.  Eh ano ba ang room temp? Lalo na ngayong el nino super init! And I don't store my BMs in the freezer since na coconsume naman within the day. So what  I do is, I always check the BM.  Pag may buo buo na for sure naman sira na un diba.  But if it still looks smooth like the way it looks when it's freshly pumped, then ayos pa un.  So far healthy naman ang baby ko, hindi naman sya nag ka diarrhea whatsoever.  :)

@momsielurks - yup, 9 months as in BF talaga, swerte nga ni baby madami pa akong milk, natulo pa kasi eh hehe!

Pag magluluto mama ko ng nilaga, ang gulay nya malunggay instead na repolyo at petsay, and nagsusuwam siya ng tulya with malunggay pa din hehe!

i'm really serious on putting an end to my daughter's bottle feeding. i noticed one her front teeth is medyo nag-move. my husband said im imagining things. nevertheless, hubby and i are trying to convince her no more dede from the bottle giving reasons such as bawal sa school, you'll be an ate soon, etc. but all of these are met with kawawa looks and crying sessions. and oh we even let her choose the glass she wants to use but to no avail.

yesterday, she tagged along with me to my check up with my OB. Since magkatapat lang clinic ng OB ko and my daughter's pedia, we dropped in for her flu vax then asked the pedia to do a little pep talk with my daughter about stopping the bottle feeding. nilambing-lambing muna ng doctor then she told her that she's a big girl already and that she should start drinking milk from a glass. my daughter asked her if puwede dora glass. lol.

anyway, looks like may effect ang talk ni pedia. when we came home my daughter asked for milk and wanted to drink it from a glass. she doesnt want to drink it straight from the glass so subo method muna kami. tiring but a good start nevertheless.

side kuwento: my mom said na baka sofia followed her kasi she sees the pedia as someone in authority. she was my pedia as well when i was kid and though she doesnt terrorizes naman, she gives this air of command that you'd really follow her. maybe other mommies can ask their pedia to convince their kids to stop bottle feeding

^Ally, the developmental pedia of my kids talked to them around February and gave them a pep talk to encourage them to drink from a glass or cup.  So I would tell them "Dr. Tippy said no more bottles by June/before you turn 3, etc."  They always reply with a resounding "No!" :(

Last night, I gave them their bedtime milk in a plastic cup.  They weren't able to finish their milk.  Naninibago siguro.  We'll get there in time. :

Ha! My oldest 3.5 yr old very dependent sa dede.  Tamad kumain, puro dede dede at dede.  Ganun din ang 2.3 yr old ko.  Gusto ko sana i-wean pero ang hina sa solid food.  Nakokonsensya naman akong makitang gutom sila at di makatulog.  Ayaw naman uminon  ng milk sa sippy cup.  :-\

^^marose, probably the two boys are tougher to crack! hopefully in no time they'd stop na esp when they start going to school

si sofi walang effect ang "no more dede since you're a big girl already" approach. cause for her she's still a baby girl

Baby Led Weaning

hello mga sis... just thought its good to start this thread as suggested by sis antagonist for those mommies who want to try using this method of introducing solid food.

Personally, i couldn't be any happier with this method.  I started using this method from the moment I started introducing solid food to my six month old baby girl.  The concept is quite simple.  The idea is to start giving our babies solid food at six months old (which is the recommended age of introducing solids by WHO) because at this age babies can already sit with little or no support and they can hold things and put it in their mouth.  Instead of starting her with pureed stuff we can just give her food that she is able to hold.

For me I started with brocolli, cauliflower, orange, potato and banana.  From then on we never looked back, we keep on adding different veggies, fruits and meat to her daily menu and my baby loves it.  Of course I consulted our pedia on what food we shouldn't give, so apart from those food that my pedia told us to avoid, she eats everything else.

Here is my little one munching away her food.

http://intricate-thoughts.blogspot.com/2010/06/my-little-bee-eats.html

so to all mommies who want to try this method, who are trying this method and who have questions about this method or mommies who simply want to share their experiences, post away!

thank you sis! :) i love your video.

umpisahan ko na. i think we are already late on this method. my son is one year old na. but he's not interested in solid food thats why i want to give BLW a try. if i only knew about BLW 6 months ago, maybe my baby is not that picky when it comes to food.

we started BLW last week. i gave him banana, apple, carrots and crackers (since my son is addicted to CRACKers ;D)

well of course he just played with his food. but the crackers, he finished them. the next time we eliminated the crackers. hanggang tikim lang then sinusubuan din para may makain lang. so frustrating... but i understand i have to let him play with his food muna. patience... but will it guarantee that he'll eventually be interested to EAT the food rather that playing with it someday?

yesterday we gave him spaghetti. ha! what a mess! but at least he ate some of it. how do you serve food with sabaw pala? like last night we had miswa for diner, sinubuan ko nalang. though both of his hands are holding spoons to keep him occupied.

ok lang ba that we use BLW but sometimes subo method din?

hay, sorry. daming tanong. but i hope you can help.

i know many are still hesitant to give finger foods to their baby coz of choking hazards. but for some reason, babies know if the food will choke them. like on kreez's video, her baby had a big bite of the strawberry, pero niluwa nya. amazing isn't it? just don't leave the baby unattended when eating so there won't be any accidents.

thanks again, sis kreez for starting this thread. :)

sis, ganon lang talaga, pag parang hindi sila interested just let them be, parang BLW is fostering fun during mealtimes kaya they should associate eating with fun.  Ang namention lang kasi dun sa book, if you started early on and spoon feeding and you want to shift to BLW, you have to stop then start all over with BLW, but in your case siguro you can mix for the meantime tapos gradually decrease nalang.  try and see what works best for your little one.

regarding naman sa masabaw na food, personally hindi ko pa natry coz ang dami ko pang sinusubukan na combination ng food but the book says try giving him "dippers" like pieces of bread or veggies na pwede nya idip dun sa soupy food, or preload the spoon tapos let him put it in his mouth, sometimes nga daw pag gusto ni baby he will lick the plate off, maparaan din sila eh LOLS!  just feed him BM/formula on demand para sure na hindi sya magutom.  tapos sometimes meron silang food na ayaw nila, hayaan mo lang then offer it again the next time.

Sa umpisa super messy talaga pero they learn really quickly kaya mas mabilis mawala ang mess.

regarding sa pagchoke, according dun sa book, babies have a much sensitve gag reflex compared to an adult structure, mas malayo sa wind pipe nila kaya mas mabilis ma trigger ng gag reflex nila, so malaya pa sa wind pipe nila ang food magga gag na agad sila.  This happened to my baby twice or thrice na tapos tuloy lang sya sa kain parang walang nangyari, minsan pa nga she threw up tapos kain ulit.... tapos alam na nya na she shouldn't do it.  Just make sure that the baby is properly seated, dapat hindi sya nakahiga pag kumakain coz that is a choking hazard.

Hope this helps sis! happy eating to our babies!
