suggestion ko po sa mga mommies who'll be travelling with their babies alone is to ask for assitance sa pag check in pa lang. when we flew singapore airlines to brisbane ayun ginawa namin. pagdating sa brisbane may sumalubong na agad and helped me through getting immigration, getting the bags and customs. express lane pa...medyo bad experience  lang sa changi airport..kainis yung isang empleyado dun..had to leave the stroller kasi diba before we enter the plane, nakita na ngang karga ang baby at dami pa carry on di man lang nag hep. i asked pa, can you help me? di sumagot..so youre not gonna help? sabi ko..tapos last try nung natupi ko na i asked if he can help na itabi ang stroller kasi nasa gitna ng daanan. ang sabi ba naman just leave it there...di ko na pinatulan at magisa lang ako..hay ibang iba sa airport natin, nakasmile pa habang tinutulungan ka...sorry rant

^ thanks sis! I'll be bringing the booster seat naman from here to US tapos iiwan ko din sya dun sa port of entry namin so hindi ko na sya problem when flying domestically. I'm not sure if airlines here sa pinas give out that plastic para sa booster seat. siguro what I will do na lang is to bring one na din just in case.  thanks tlaga for replying! =) Now all I have to do is to find a clear plastic bag to contain it... medyo malaki kasi. if I put it naman sa black trash bag baka pagkamalang basura eh itapon nila =)

hi again mga sis! =) may question ako for anyone here who traveled alone with your kids outside the country kung hiningan ba kayo ng parental travel permit dito sa immigration natin especially for those who traveled just recently? kasi may nagsabi samin na hindi na daw needed yun especially if the minor is traveling with the mother and is below 7 y/o... is this true or kailangan ko pa talagang magpunta sa DSWD for this? anyone here who had the same dilemma? pa-share naman mga sis! TIA!

hi sis, kung magtravel c baby with mommy or daddy no need na po ng dswd. just bring na lang his birth cert. para lang [textspeak!]. if travelling with lola un need pa kuha ng dswd. hope i answer your question. ganyan din kc ako nung una e!

this is so true and is a big big help. but i suggest you call ahead of time. you can call the airline at least a week before your departure date. Ask if they provide "Special Assitance" to mothers travelling alone with their infant/child. para sa check-in mo, meron na agad ready na ground steward to assist you. minsan kasi they run out of assistants pag maraming elderly na sumasakay.

ako, i called all the airlines na sasakyan ko (including connecting flights) a week before pa ng alis namin ni baby. so pagalis ko sa pinas connecting to japan, may nagiintay na rin sa akin na ground stewardess doon sa japan at kinuha niya agad lahat ng stroller at diaper bag ko at sinamahan pa ako hanggang sa loob ng air canada plane wonderful experience!

Hi mga sis, Just want to ask baka may idea kayo ok lang ba na itravel si baby ng 2 mos old pa lang cya? im giving birth kasi in manila, and plan ko after 2 months after i gave birth tsaka ko sya iuwi. 2 hrs flight lang naman. Thanks in advance!

i would say NO, unless its absolutely necessary to travel. im not saying hindi pwede or hindi ka allowed dahil pwede naman, im just saying na its risky for very young infants to travel by plane.

first, nakakapagod. kung tayo napapagod sa 1 hour flight lang, what more sa isang baby? the take off, the landing, the noise. of course they don't know how to complain so you wouldn't really know how stressful it can be for them. at yung pressure pa sa ears nila. 

second, you have to build up the baby's immune system muna. airplanes are closed tight space na hindi nagci-circulate masyado ang air. kaya nga sobrang higpit kapag may kumakalat na virus sa mga travellers coz you can easily get contaminated by someone inside the plane dahil kulob kayo doon. remember the SARS before?  well kung wala naman sigurong epidemia ngayon ng H1N1, its up to you.

in the end, of course you're the mom, you decide what's best for your baby. kung gusto mo pa rin siyang ibyahe, just exercise enough precaution. make sure that the baby is properly vaccinated and protect her sa mga passengers na ubo ng ubo, bahing ng bahing.

How do you handle a 1 year old baby pag 8 hours ang flight? Eh kaming 2 lang and bibiyahe. Input naman po dyan. Baka magwala si baby sa plane, kakahiya.  What do I need to bring?

naku 1 year old din ang baby ko when i travelled back home to manila from toronto. sobrang tagal pa ng biyahe ko, pamatay talaga magpa-special assistance ka, call the airlines before your departure date.

bring tylenol (acetaminophen), not cough syrup. let your baby take 1 dose 30 mins before the flight pala hindi mabingi sa take off and landing at matutulog lang. very effective ito sa kanya as in hindi siya umiyak not even once kahit papalit-palit kami ng eruplano.  samantalang yung katabi niyang lalake na ka-age niya, iyak ng iyak the whole trip dahil ang sakit ng tenga. kawawa talaga. or itapat mo sa bottle feeding niya yung take off and landing para hindi masakit sa tenga but im telling you, mahirap itong i-timing lalo na kung ayaw naman ni baby mag-milk pa. kaya i brought tylenol with me.

bring small toys,books. anything na pang-aliw. bring snacks. let your baby walk on the aisle or stand beside you kung steady na yung plane para hindi siya  naiinip at nababagot.

and patience, patience...na-fi-feel ng bata kapag aburido tayo or stressed and they react to that. they get more grumpy when they see us grumpy. so try to relax and breath deeply

HI! Just stumbled on this thread as i was searching thru the net on the dos and donts when flying with a baby.

I'll be flying to the US with my 7 yr old daughter and 11 mos. old son by the end of March. Total of 20 Hrs yung flight with 2 stop overs. Manila GuaM. Guam- Hawaii, Hawaii-La.  Bottom line.. Im scared. 

As early as now, im doing my research na. They say theres no formula on flying/traveling with kids.  Im not really concerned with my 7 yr old, shes big na kasi. Its more on my baby... haay.

From disposable bottles, diaper changing in the plane, strollers, etc.. theres too much to consider. 

Question?

1.  will they (airline) only accept umbrella stroller?  Im using quinny zapp. would you know if i can bring this before i board or do i have to check it in?

2.  Avent Tempo- can i just wash the nurser & ring? not sterilize? then ill just bring extra teats?

3. do i need to get special assistance? is this too much to ask with the airline?

haaay... i just wanna share my disappointment... i know most of the discussions here are international flights... but anyway...

we decided to bring the kids (3.5yro, and 6.5months old, all boys) to my hubby's home town, Cebu City in celebration of our chinese new year and valentine's day with my in-laws(they are pure chinese). this is my 2nd son's first flight.i wanted to have a smooth flight as much as possible. having 2 kids with hubby (no yaya) with us is a new thing to us. actually, this is our first travel as family. so i called the airlines(cebupacific) a day before to ask for more information and for assistance.

1. i told them that i'll be bringing my son's (eldest) baby haler (inhaler-steroids) for his asthma, and if it's ok to hand carry. - - YES OK

2. i want my umbrella stroller (chicco) to be intercept and be ready as well upon landing the plane in our destination. i don't want to get the stroller upon landing in the baggage counter. - - they said that's possible and just inform the plane crew.

3. i need assistance. my last flight with them, nag bleeding ako (mla-cebu) due to their inorganized check in counter and boarding. i was 3 1/2 mos preggy, then. anyway, i asked them: could you please have the boarding in an orderly manner. just like the other airlines. where in, they initially call the elderly and the passengers with babies before the other passengers... - - they put me on hold for minutes, and said they don't have that kind of system in boarding..  kasi kapag ganito, kami na lang ang huli, ang hirap pumila sa mga nakikipag unahan na pasaher as if mawawalhan ka ng upuan...

on the day of the departure.. hubby pushing the cart for our check in baggages (1 maleta, 1 small box and 1 pack n play). me, pushing my eldest in the umbrella stroller and my baby on sling. we only have 2 hand carry bag for the kids' needs during the flight.

we arrived in the naia3 2hrs before the flight. pila sa labas ng naia3, and mababait ang security dito. they helped me with my hand carried bags and sa mga bata para makapasok.

and pag dating sa check in counter, pang 4th kami sa line. it took us 30mins before our flight! imagine the waiting time! katulad din ng huli naming flight. haaaay...so we just grabbed hotdogs and eat for 5mins. then go straight in boarding.

pag dating sa plane, i informed the head crew to have the stroller ready upon landing. and said, ok naman daw...so i prepared food for my eldest for him to chew and swallow during take off and pacifier naman sa baby ko since ayaw nya mag feed nun and play time nya kasi.akala ko ok na...

sa window side ang eldest ko, middle si hubby and aisle ako... in the middle of our flight, yung head crew attendant pumunta sa area namin and may kinuha na gamit sa taas. at that time, hubby is about to take a pic of me and my baby for our documentation of his first flight... alam nyo ngyari?! naku! bigla na lang may tumama sa ulo ko, as if parang nabiyak sa sakit. may kinuha na crane yung attendant at tumama sa ulo ko! kung dlsr lang yung cam namin, malamang kitang kita yung tama sakin. the only thing they did was "im sorry". wala man lang binigay na first aid or anything...

^sis mom.of.inchikoy, i really hate cebupacific.. we had a bad experience with them.. kahit search mo sa google, ang dami complain talaga sa kanila.. hindi kami mag cecebupacific sa susunod na dala namin si baby.. hate ko talaga sila.. (sorry nag rant ako.. LOL)

^ we always compare the rates of cebupac and PAL kasi... and everytime we decided to have a domestic flight, parating cebupac due to the fare rate... this time, we'd rather pay extra fee for a better service sa totoo lang. hubby wanted to file a charge for the incident. my parents keep calling and bugging me that time to file a report to the police on what happen. sabi ko, my last flight with them dumeretso kami sa hospital. haaay...
sobrang bad day ang araw na yun samin. i was carrying my infant at that time pa, buti na lang i changed his position from standing up to sit position on my lap. kundi sya ang natamaan! he filed a report to the company, i don't know kung umabot nga ba yun...

so no choice kami pauwi to manila from cebu...
mabait in fairness yung nasa desk when we're about to board. pina una kami without me making kulit. pag dating sa attendant, i keep on telling them yung stroller ha, paki ready upon landing. pag dating ba naman, hindi pina prepare. sa check in na lang daw. ng nagalit ako, dun ginawan na lang nila ng paraan...

Hindi pa ako nakakasakay sa cebu pacific at wala akong balak na sumakay, kahit mura pa dun, grabe na talaga mga nega feedbacks.

kami kaya kami nagcecebupac kasi yung schedule nila ang gusto namin.. meron kasi silang late flight from MNL to SG.. para at least tulog baby ko.. pero NO NO NO na talaga.. meron naman sa iba na mas mahal pero di naman iinit ulo natin.. kainis sila sobra sis..

1. you can bring the umbrella stroller with you hanggang sa boarding. they will get it from you there before you can enter the airplane so be sure to properly label your stroller para hindi ka malito kapag kukunin mo na. usually, ready na yan paglabas mo ng airplane, nakatambak sa isang side sama-sama sila ng lahat ng strollers. others they put plastic bags para hindi madumihan or magasgas.

3. Yes. get special assitance. Its free and Its not too much to ask. you are a paying customer and airline tickets are not cheap so make use of all the benefits available to you and kids. puntahan mo yung website ng airline and check if they offer special assistance. Not everybody knows about this kaya nakakahinayang.

4. Regarding formula milk. When my daughter was 1, nagdala ako ng formula (powder) sa dispensing containers and then sa loob ng airplane, doon ko nilalagay sa bote niya and i ask the flight attendant to fill it up with WARM water (up to desired level). so easy..

naku natakot naman ako bigla sa cebupac. we will be taking CebuPac flight Sg-MNL-Sg next month. i want to try them kasi parang okay naman ang feedback ng mga friends and inlaws ko until i have read your rants.

first time namin makakasakay nito sa international flight, 1 time domestic MNL-Ceb pero iba kasi kung may baby na dala. i just reserved the bulk seats para medyo comfortable naman just in case.

I really hope everything will work well. Medyo nasa isip ko na ang mga kailangan ipack. Hershey will have only 1 bag of her favorite toys hand carry at salamat sa Dyos sa ipod. Now, she can stay 1 hour + playing with it so just in case we can make use of this during the flight para di sya masyadong ma bore.
