I have here a link to share. This is from a friend that I met from PKC when she went to Manila all the way from Pampanga to get her 1st Kettlebell (an 8-kilo Pink Pro Series KB), and have her kettlebell basics tryout with PKC. I found her blogspot and ask her if I can share this with others, and she said yes.. so here you go:

Thanks for raising the question Sis m_lim, the difference between kettlebells vs dumbells was never out of the effective fitness or workout tool debate :)

For me, the simplest way I can put it is from their difference in terms of having a conventional workout and the other one which is optimally effective, efficient, and long-lasting. Similar to all other workout tools or fitness regimen, its the RESULTS that makes the difference. It's nothing new that some people may see it that kettlebells are 'glorified dumbells'.. of which in my personal opinion may be due to lack of proper instruction on how to practice with Kettlebell, which often results that people make the critical mistake of attempting to use kettlebells as if they were traditional weights.

Dumbell exercises involves traditional weight lifting or weight training movements, wherein we do exercises in a fixed position while moving the weight nearer or closer to us. That way we do not apply any momentum, which results to muscle isolation. Now let's compare it with Kettlebell exercises, in opposite to muscle isolation, KB training is based upon generating, continuing, redirecting, and slowing down that momentum. Every kettlebell exercise utilizes almost all our muscles in the body all at once. This is why KB training is known to be a total body workout, and does not develop a bulky size. If some of you have heard about Kettlebell Swing (pls check them online if you havent yet just so you have an idea), this basic KB movement when you attempt using a dumbell, its effects will not match (not even close) the effect you'll experience when you use a kettlebell primarily because of a dumbells balanced design making the applied force limited, as compare with the changing center of gravity carried by the bell as it travel around your body, enabling its user to let function its 600+ body muscles to produce energy needed thru movements that are natural to the human body, while at the same time developing functional strength, and massive calorie burning & improved metabolism.

some other bonuses of kettlebells for women

They aren't intimidating as barbells or dumbbells

they come in cute colors ( the 8kg is in pink, the classic 12kg is in purple :) )

they work the hips, butt and thighs really well..

they make you work up a sweat ( now I dunno about this but from what I noticed, the average guy equates working out to the "pump" and the average girl equates working out to how much they sweat)

more to come...

Many benefits indeed girls:) You'll burn hundreds of calories in minimal time. Kettlebell training is time efficient, incredibly intense and effective fun to do workout:)

On top of that Kettlebell exercises are gentle on joints as there is no impact unlike jogging etc. Many women noticed their joint health and range of motion greatly improving with kettlebell training.

PRACTICAL BENEFITS OF THE KETTLEBELL:

Convinience and Durability - Kettlebells being made by either Steel or Iron are indestructible, and the area you need to work out with them, and to store them requires very little space. You can bring them anywhere at your convinience. Some brings them to their offices, esp those with their own sports facilities, some keeps them at home, brings with them during out of town (especially when you go to the beach -- a morning workout in the beach with the fresh sea breeze relaxing you is unbeatable!), or just carry with you for a "farmers walk" during your morning or afternoon village walk.

Affordability - Your return of investment when you purchase a kettlebell is endless. Sounds like a multi-level marketing isnt it!! hehe :) but yeah, its true. The purchase of a starter set is already virtually a full spectrum home gym of which the price may be equivalent to your 2-3 months gym membership. True that a KB is not cheap, but it is also not expensive. Its cost can easily equate to its usefulness, effectivity & efficiency, and payoff that you'll experience through great improvement in strength & your physique.

Versatility - Kettlebells is both aerobic and an-aerobic which gives anyone a lean, and fit body that we've always wanted. Most kettlebell exercises involve a variety of motions, but most fall into two categories: Grinds (which are slow movements that teaches our body on how to adapt to tension, making us more prepared to more dynamic exercises); and Ballistic exercises (which involves short burst of mucle activity at a higher rate of speed such as swinging). Beginner exercises focus on generating momentum through the legs into the arms in a squat-like motion, pressing the weight overhead with the arms, and stabilizing the weights while performing different core movements. You’ll feel it most in your hips, glutes, thighs, and arms. In fact, you’ll feel it days after your workout. But, the midsection and back do their share of the work too. It’s the perfect workout for us women who would like to sculpt curves, and tighten the backs of our arms

Time Efficiency - A workout session can be effective in as little as 15 minutes. You can work your way by developing higher work capacity. Time effeciency also applies to seeing results fast

Hi everyone! Sharing with you a sample Kettlebell workout courtesy of Lauren Brooks in YouTube. You will notice here the different combination of exercises you can do even just for a quick fat burning workout. They may look impressive especially for one who havent tried lifting a kettlebell yet, but am pretty sure that once you've tried lifting or swinging one, and soon as you learn how to use your whole body to perform these exercises, everything will just be easy, and so much fun! :D

Hi, I would like to try this kettlebell training, how much can you buy this kettlebell? Also, I live in the South, do you have any scheduled trainings here where I can attend and join? How much are the membership and session fees? I am really interested but don't know where and how to join.

Hi mga Sis,

Honestly, kettlebells actually aren't cheap but they are not expensive also if you will compare it to gym memberships, and all those body sculpting equipments and supplements that are available in the market these days. Some might find it pricey similar to my 1st impression about it the 1st time I bought mine, but once you start using it you will realize that it's a worthwhile investment. One that lasts a lifetime. Kettlebells are known to be a gym itself -- a "hand held gym" its called. It worksout your whole body and gives so much carry over benefits to your functional health & fitness. It corrects posture, prevents & rehabilitates injury especially for athletes. It teaches the body to workout in a natural pattern / movement, which is the opposite of what machines does to us. Kettlebells improves mobility and flexibility -- which is a good answer to employees who's work involves mostly sitting down and slouching in front of our computer resulting to immobile hips, and back problems. Soon, we will hear kettlebell exercises not just in the fitness industry but even from corporates who cares for its employees well being.. :)

Hope this helps to at least shed some light on how KBs can really be worth its price. Try even just the kettlebell swing and I'm pretty sure you will get hooked to it! You will loose counting the minutes and the calories you're burning! :o

PS: an 8 kilo kettlebell (a good quality one) can be purchased as low as around 1,600 to 2,400. The 2k+ one is already the pro grade competition style KB.

A Kb that's worth 4k up is already at around 16 kilos to 36 kilos, which I dont think we girls can go that far. The 12 to 16 kilos is possible for us girls but that's after quite some time of training and perfecting the forms & basics KB training. :)
