Wow, I didn't expect na dami mag scholar sa med school. Considering its a load of studying and exams. Feeling ko duduguin ako sa pag-aaral..

Parang super tutok ka dapat. No social life. Am I right?

Mali pa ata ang na-print sa Inquirer, ang sabi doon they just graduated raw O_o

5-year curriculum pala ang St. Lukes. Ang ibang batchmates namin sa UST and PLM graduating na this March. =(

Sayang talaga. Closed caskets ang batchmates ko, the other girl (she was able to call her boyfriend pa raw before she passed out from the smoke) open casket.  Kawawa naman parents nila.

Medical clerk na ko sa March O_O sa Ospital ng Maynila. Katakot T_T

teka, are those who died 4th year medical students (aka clerks), or interns na (5th year medical students) since you said they're graduating in 1 month?

St. Luke College of Medicine has a 5-year curriculum - internship is included; just like in UP College of Medicine. as for the rest of med schools, 4 years lang (meaning hanggang clerkship lang). internship is taken after graduation.

^^ yeah neuroanatomy is hard. my friend had this neuroanatomy coloring book which he was so fond of. color dito color doon. iba iba color sa iba ibang spinal tracts. sa una nakakatawa. pero in fairness he understood neuroana. LOL. sa med school naman it doesn't matter how you learn it as long as you learn. it doesn't matter how you remember things as long as you remember.

well, duduguin ka talaga sa pag-aaral at sa training.

my social life naman din. you just have to manage your time wisely, and let others understand your situation. mahirap but you'll eventually survive.

i've also heard stories from my sis (also a 4th yr med student). it so happens that she knows the sole survivor of the incident. i feel sad for the parents of those who died. i wonder what actions will be done sa SLMC CM para hindi na maulit ito. it makes me also think the safety in doctors inside hospital (while doing their duty) when accidents such as these happen. sana hindi na mangyari ang ganitong insidente pa.

So do many med students get in a relationship pa? and if you do, how do you manage it? lol If you guys don't mind me asking. Just a thought I had in mind.
I have idea of med students kasi na super priority nila ang studying. And since I'm thinking of going to med school, I dont think I can balance both academic and relationship at the same time.

oo naman, majority are in a relationship, even if their "significant other" is in the medical profession or not. your partner has to understand that studies are your utmost priority. in return, you also have to make time for them. kung hindi mo kaya pagsabayain, you have to choose kung ano ba ang mas matimbang para sa iyo.

what i did back then was study on weekdays, then go out on weekends (either on a saturday or a sunday). kung puros aral, feeling ko nun sasabog na utak ko. haha! i was just an average student but naka-survive naman ako, academically speaking.

Actually in med school the most important thing is to focus. The inability to focus is the reason why academic problems pop up.

Whether one is in a relationship, dating, in courtship, MU, or whatever as long as you are able to handle it then that's fine.

You will be surprised on how "creative" a lot of med students can be in the name of love. LOL.

I had classmates who would meet their better halfs in unholy hours as in madaling araw kasi yun lang ang common time nila. LOL. Minsan sa apartment nagugulat ako may biglang dadalaw sa friend ko when everybody else is supposed to be sleeping. LOL. Ewan ko basta you will be amazed. LOL.

Hi! New here. Aspiring to be a doctor din ako. Currently a 3rd year nursing student @ St. Lukes. Mmm. I haven't decided yet kung itutuloy ko. I need to know all the details first before i really pursue it. Db? Mahirap naman yung papasok ka sa bagay na hindi mo alam kung ano mangyayari. One thing pa, i have a baby na. I don't know if i can handle med school plus my responsibility as a mom. I hope you could enlighten me guys.

familiarise yourself with the medical curriculum of each medical school. depending on the competencies, learning objectives set per year level, you will know if you'll start to have patient exposure na before you reach 4th year (aka clerkship). before you start facing your patients, you need to have a good theoretical background or foundation of what you're about to face or deal with in the wards.

ask yourself kung gusto mo ba talaga maging duktor kasi hindi biro ang papasukin mo. if so then by all means go for it. what details are you wanting to know ba? are you asking kung ano ang career path after graduation, passing the boards? how much ang salary ng mga duktor? how long before you establish your own practice? in your present situation, mahirap kasi you have several roles to fulfill at the same time. you need someone to take care of your baby while your studying and soon, when you're at the hospital. 

with regards to UST being bookish, yes that's correct but my patient exposure naman during the academic years (2nd and 3rd years).

This has been an argument raised for the longest time in history. When they say they are more hands on they actually mean they get to do hands-on procedures more. These include IV insertions especially pediatric IV insertions, NGT, catheter insertions, blood extractions etc. This is due to the fact that during clerkship (4th yr med school) they get to do more outside rotations particularly in government hospitals therefore giving them the opportunity to do such procedures more. Of course in gov't hospitals maraming pasyente and hindi naman papalag ang pasyente ke burdahan mo man ang ugat ng mga yan or whatever. This is one reason why some thomasians who feel the need to further hone certain practical skills then spend internship (after med school before the PRC boards) in government hospitals. However for St. Lukes med students since internship is included in the curriculum e wala naman sila choice but to stay in St. Lukes. Of course it is a private hospital and a very high end one for that matter kaya yeah minimal handling talaga.

While hands-on skills is important, as doctors it is more important to know how to manage a patient, how to think properly, how to approach a case and most important of all it is a must to have a good academic foundation or store of knowledge in order to become the competent doctor that one needs to be in the future. Whatever theoretical knowledge you acquire in med school that is what will help you in the PRC boards and in future endeavors. This is one reason why UST has been so strict academically. Another reason is that it has a reputation to protect. As a med school it has always produced board topnotchers and always had a 90+% passing in the PRC board exams except for I think mga a few batches which is still good considering how long it has been existing and compared to other med schools which has far lower passing in the boards (except for UP of course). If you research the passing percentage of other schools baka mahimatay kayo. LOL. Sensya na nagsasabi lang ng totoo.

Tsaka when you go out in the real world the most common question which you will probably encounter is "san ka grumaduate?". That is what they commonly ask be it by patients, relatives, acquaintances, etc. Hindi naman nila malalaman whether one is cum laude, average or irregular. Ang itatanong lang "san ka grumaduate?" Therefore graduating in a school with a good reputation is important.

i beg to disagree po na px do ask kung saang school ka graduate..hindi pa kasi ako nakakaencounter ng px asking kung saan ka graduate...hindi mahalaga ang school,well it maters lang siguro a bit in terms of applications or whatsoever..pero after boards and during your practice pantay pantay na yan..wala sa school or passing rate ng school mo yan,nasa saiyo na yan kung pano mo iaapply ang natutunan mo sa medschool. just my two cents

^ i agree with quolet. in training and practice, hindi na importante kung saang school graduate ka. perhaps they'll just ask you pag mag-a-apply ka na for residency training. after nun, hindi na ginagawang issue pa yun. ang importante, you don't compromise the lives of your patient/s.

^ haha! admittedly, my nagtatanong kung saan ako graduate. ewan ko ba kung bakit ako pa ang nahihiya na sagutin yun. may nagtatanong na din kung ilang taon na ako, at kung my asawa na ako. haha! my balak ireto sa akin.
