^^ have you confirmed that he's really diabetic?

i have high blood sugar also but i am not yet diabetic. i have to control my intake and i have to lose wait.

my dad is diabetic. he injects insulin twice a day. his doctor and nutritionist advised the following:
- eat 5 small meals per day
- when you eat fruits, eat them as dessert because your meal tries to even out the sugar content. if you ear fruits solo, as in like for merienda, full effect ang sugar kasi yon lang ang kinain.
- but even if you eat fruits as dessert, may limit pa din (i.e. 10-12 pieces of grapes only)

we also try to have as much sugar-free products for dad. but we make sure sugar is not substituted by aspartame because that's also bad for the body. isomalt and sucralose (like splenda) are good substitutes.

try to research about low-gi (glycemic index) diets. gi gives an indication of how much sugar content is in 100g of different kinds of food.

^^ Hi sis! :) one of my dearest friend was also recently diagnosed with DM Type 2.  Based from our conversations, I would suggest the following:

- visit a good and reputable endo or diabetologist.  my friend's endo is dra. evelyn paraan of sti mega clinic. if you are interested, i'll pm her scheds.  she's very good :)

-  have your hubby's blood sugar tested.  normally, an endocrinologist or a diabetologist would would ask for an FBS test (fasting blood sugar).  10 - 12 hours of fasting.  if you aren't diabetic, dapat 70-99 lang ang result, if 100 - 120 (yata, sorry nalimutan ko yung right digits, will update this once i remembered it) you are prediabetic. if more than that, the person is diabetic.

- if your hubby is confirmed to have DM2.  visit the makati med's diabetic center.  my friend was advised to attend a half day seminar at the diabetic center.  topics discussed are food intake, foot care, DM type 1 vs DM type 2, hypo vs hypergand others.  i was with her during the seminar.  The nurses also checked her feet.  she was advised to put on moisturizing lotion sa ibabaw ng paa, sakong and ilalim ng paa but not between the toes.  she was told no more foot spa, pedicure or manicure.  and when she cut her nails, dapat across lang then nail filing na lang.  also, wag daw papatanggal yung mga balahibo / buhok na nasa toes ng paa lalo na sa hinlalaki.  kasi pag nalalagas daw yun, symptoms ng neuropathy yun.

-  follow the diet plan na ibibigay ng nutrionist/dietitian from the diabetic center.

-  on food, according sa seminar, dapat you should take note of the calories.  foods that have 0-10 calories are free foods.  ibig sabihin, you can consume as desired.  pag 11-20 calories, 3 servings in a day lang.  pag 21 - up, may food exchanges ng katapat yung food na yun and hindi pwedeng kainin ng kainin.

not necessary na tanggalin ang rice.  pero better kung unpolished rice ang kakainin, also limited lang din, i.e. 1/2 cup - 1 cup per meal.

your husband can have coke zero, or pepsi maxx, C2 sugar free, a slice of sugar free choco cake from goldilocks or a pack of skyflakes (per snack), jell-o sugar free, sugar free slice bread, dami pa.  you'll be surprised na marami ng food sa market ngayon na sugar free and diabetic friendly.

- get a glucometer.  this is a must for diabetic.

pwedeng bumaba sa tamang level ang blood sugar ng husband mo pero it doesnt mean na wala ng diabetes.  kaya, it is a life long management. kakailanganin nya ng support ng family. :)

above all, PRAY.  our God is greater and bigger that any illness in this world :)

I begged him to have his sugar checked...ayun 380 sugar niya. Fasting pa yun. When we learned about it iyak na kami...kasi isip ko ayaw ko mawala siya or magkasakit siya. Prescribed ng doctor metformin and liveraide.

Kahapon napilit ko mag pablood chem..116 with fasting na yun. taad din triglycerides niya and sgpt sa liver yun eh.
Ayun natakot na naman. Sana naman makinig na siya. Sana bawasan na niya food niya. Feeling ko kailangan niya exercise and diet.

The high TG and SGPT can be from food intake, fat deposition sa liver kaya siguro mataas ang SGPT. Beef fat should be avoided, as this is difficult to break down. As for the sugar, 116 isn't really diagnostic of diabetes. Ang diagnostic value is greater than or equal to 126. So he can try to undergo FBS again together with OGTT (oral glucose tolerance test). Be sure to undergo 8-hr fasting lang for FBS, overfasting can yield to false decreased result. :)

hi.. just saw this topic..

my tita, tito, daddy ng officemate ko, at lola ng friend ko are all diabetic.. most of them are taking loads of meds, pinakamababa na ang 7capsules.. all of them are taking food supplement din pero masarap ang lasa. contrary sa ibang food supplements...  yep, it really did wonders to them.. sa tita ko, yung side effect ng gamot na pagsusuka, pagkahilo at panghihina, nawala lahat yun... at ang pinakaimportante, nakatulong to para manormalize yung level ng kanilang  sugar level..

diabetis may affect sexual functioning in many ways...

  • Long-term diabetes can cause damage to the nervous system, which is involved in the complex process of erection. This means men with diabetes may suffer from erectile dysfunction.
  • Women with diabetes may be more prone to have problems with vaginal lubrication.
  • Women may find that the menstrual cycle affects blood sugar.
  • If you use insulin, be aware that sometimes sex can cause low blood sugar levels.
  • study of U.S., British and German diabetes patients found 44 percent say the disease affects their ability or desire to have sex

Just sharing. I have an officemate that has been on these patches - the things you put on your feet...specifically for people with type 2 diabetes. It works for him in terms of maintaining his sugar level...from 105 naging 90 nalang and somehow stays there.

very effective. :D with matching beer pa everyday :P

try nyo siguro wala naman mawawala type 2 kasi is all about maintenance
