^^ Hi sis!

one of my dearest friend was also recently diagnosed with DM Type 2. Based from our conversations, I would suggest the following:
- visit a good and reputable endo or diabetologist. my friend's endo is dra. evelyn paraan of sti mega clinic. if you are interested, i'll pm her scheds. she's very good

- have your hubby's blood sugar tested. normally, an endocrinologist or a diabetologist would would ask for an FBS test (fasting blood sugar). 10 - 12 hours of fasting. if you aren't diabetic, dapat 70-99 lang ang result, if 100 - 120 (yata, sorry nalimutan ko yung right digits, will update this once i remembered it) you are prediabetic. if more than that, the person is diabetic.
- if your hubby is confirmed to have DM2. visit the makati med's diabetic center. my friend was advised to attend a half day seminar at the diabetic center. topics discussed are food intake, foot care, DM type 1 vs DM type 2, hypo vs hypergand others. i was with her during the seminar. The nurses also checked her feet. she was advised to put on moisturizing lotion sa ibabaw ng paa, sakong and ilalim ng paa but not between the toes. she was told no more foot spa, pedicure or manicure. and when she cut her nails, dapat across lang then nail filing na lang. also, wag daw papatanggal yung mga balahibo / buhok na nasa toes ng paa lalo na sa hinlalaki. kasi pag nalalagas daw yun, symptoms ng neuropathy yun.
- follow the diet plan na ibibigay ng nutrionist/dietitian from the diabetic center.
- on food, according sa seminar, dapat you should take note of the calories. foods that have 0-10 calories are free foods. ibig sabihin, you can consume as desired. pag 11-20 calories, 3 servings in a day lang. pag 21 - up, may food exchanges ng katapat yung food na yun and hindi pwedeng kainin ng kainin.
not necessary na tanggalin ang rice. pero better kung unpolished rice ang kakainin, also limited lang din, i.e. 1/2 cup - 1 cup per meal.
your husband can have coke zero, or pepsi maxx, C2 sugar free, a slice of sugar free choco cake from goldilocks or a pack of skyflakes (per snack), jell-o sugar free, sugar free slice bread, dami pa. you'll be surprised na marami ng food sa market ngayon na sugar free and diabetic friendly.
- get a glucometer. this is a must for diabetic.
pwedeng bumaba sa tamang level ang blood sugar ng husband mo pero it doesnt mean na wala ng diabetes. kaya, it is a life long management. kakailanganin nya ng support ng family.

above all, PRAY. our God is greater and bigger that any illness in this world
