Yung nephew ko naman, never sya nagsalita nung baby sya, then when he turned 2 yrs old, nagsalita sya and super tatas... Ang first word(s) nya is "tutok-tutok". Lagi kasi may am radio na nakabukas sa house nila).
Ganon din ginawa ko sa son ko, from birth afternya maiuwi sa house which is 1 week old na sya, lagi may AM radio na nakabukas from morning to afternoon, early sya nag salita, first word nya is super tatas na "papa" then after nun dami ng words na nasasabi, although may mga times na bulol sya pero you can understand what he is saying...

I think malaking help yung may constant talking na naririning ang babies/infants (in our case AM radio), di ba magagandang magsalita mga announcer sa radios, include na din ang pronounciation and diction.

^ actually sis, hindi rin okay na palaging naririnig eh gadget (in this case, computer, tv, o kahit pa radyo yan) mapa tv show, cartoons, balita, youtube, dvd, etc.

pwedeng maka-pick up ang bata ng salita na naririnig nya pero what happens is that ineecho lang nya yung naririnig nya. he or she may have the words or phrases, but does the child know when and how to use them?

the best for any child would be actual communication with an actual human being. in the communication process, feedback is very important. kahit ilambeses kausapin ng bata ang TV o radyo eh hindi sasagot yan pabalik. mas matututo ang bata kung sumasagot ang kausap at kung personal ang kausap. so i would suggest sa mga mommies with children na delayed and talking, kausapin niyo ng kausapin personally. isama niyo sa play groups o hanapan niyo ng kalaro. huwag niyong itutok sa gadgets, ibang mommies dyan akala makakatulong yung mga educational DVDs or games or iPad apps, but no.

Hi i also want to share my son's story. He is 5.6 years old now and he was diagnosed as having autism spectrum disorder but before that nag speech therapy and occupational therapy na sya for a little more than a year na. I enrolled him in a montessori school and soon napansin ng teacher na may speech prob say [textspeak!] do say maka pay communicate ng maayos puro phrases long but sometimes nakaka form naman say ng sentence and nakakaintindi ng mga utos. We were advised by the school head to see  a devped  and ipa speech and ot therapy sya. so ayun nga nagpa evaluate sya - that was november 2010 so he is turning 4 at that time, december bday nya. So after the 2hr eval with the pedia he was diagnosed nga na language delay so continue lang yung speech and ot therapies nya then every 3 months pumupunta kme sa devped for follow up. Then nito na nga nong november last year reevaluation nya na and don na nalaman na autistic nga sya pero high functioning naman das kase nakakasunod sya ng mga utos, marunong naman gumawa kung ano pinapagawa namin, etc but yun lang hirap sya mag communicate and short attention span din (Di pa yan sya mahilig manood ng tv). It took 1 year if observation din before he was diagnosed as asd. Yung ibang bata first time pa lang makita ng pedia alam na nila na autistic agad pero sya marami pang beses kame pabalik balik before na confirm na autistic sya. So mga sis if nagwoworry kayo na baka delayed speech yung mga anak nyo, better na ipa check up nuo na now para mapanatag na din kayo kase kame ng hubby ko before di naman alam kung delay or hinde kase di naman kame exposed sa mga kids so wala kame idea if sa ganitong age ba dapat madaldal na or hinde.

[textspeak!] gummy bear, nung nag OT and ST anak mo, kasama ka ba sa loob? or anak mo lang andtherapist lang talaga? kasi iyong nakausap kong therapist, ang sabi niya behavioral muna raw ang ithetheraphy sa anak ko before speech eh, gusto kosana speech naagad kasi iyon ang nakikita problem, ayoko lang kasi matrauma ang anak ko kung behavioral mag undergo pa theraphy, kasi parang discipline ang gusto iimpose ng therapist eh hindi naman malikot at nanakit ang anak ko, maki mommy lang kayaumiiyak kapag wala ako, nag improve ba sis nung nag speech theraphy ang anak mo? scripted ang sagot ng anak ko sakin eh , same answers for same questions, like what did you do sa school? kung ano ang tinuroko sa kanya sagot,iyon na ang lagi ang sagot everyday .

^do you have a dev ped? he or she is the best person to recommend whether or not need pa ng OT for behavioral modification. based on my experience with my pamangkin, it is recommended to do an OT first for behavioral modification, para mas humaba ang attention span ng bata and mas maging okay ang flow ng therapy nila. separate ang OT sa ST.

hi sis its best na pachek mo anak mo sa devped dont relay alone on teachers, etc. still the best person to tell is the devped and for peace of mind na din...lalo na sa age nya na yan crucial stage ..so best ang early intervention..

@Jodim - Pa check mo muna Sis sa devped ang anak mo. Then siya 'yung mag-rerecommend kung mag-undergo siya ng OT and ST.. Bale 'yung sa anak ko, for 5 months 2x a week OT, then 1x a week ST. After 5 months pina-check ko ulit sa devped, ok na ang OT niya kaya 1x a week na lang tapos 'yung ST na niya ang 2x a week. Malaki din naman ang improvement niya due to therapy. Sa OT, nag-improve 'yung attention span niya, nakakapagsulat na kahit walang teacher na nagbabantay, hindi na iyakin, overall nag-improve ang behaviour niya. Sa ST naman, nag-improve vocabulary niya saka nakikipag-usap na siya. For OT and ST pala, may assessment din yan ang therapist before mag-start ng formal therapy. During therapy session, hindi ako kasama, anak ko lang and therapist. Then after nung therapy, may session din ang parents sa therapist. Ini-explain niya 'yung ginawa nila on that day.

nag school na din sya and na diagnose na sya last saturday (july 6, 2013) na language development disorder, sabi ng dev pedia nya mas nearing kami to adhd
and that he is not considered under the spectrum. kaso nag worry naman ako nung mabasa ko post mo.
ano daw kaya yung consideration ng dev pedia ng son mo bakit sya na diagnosed na under ng spectrum?

Ako mismo, delayed talker... A doctor advised my mom na gupitin frenulum ko (ilalim ng dila) kase it was quite short daw kaya hindi daw ako makapagsalita... But my mom refused... My mom told me na i was already 2.5 years old pero aaaahhhhh eeeeehhhh lang daw nasasabi ko kahit lagi daw nila ako kinakausap.... They thought may major abnormality daw ako... 3 months before my 3rd bday, i started talking na 'mommy daddy'... Then nagtuloy-tuloy na...

^^ there are certain tests and checklists that could tell whether someone has ASD (i.e. DSM-V) . although some children, medyo matagal before the doctor concludes the diagnosis since the spectrum is really broad. i know one na naka apat na dev ped before the child was diagnosed with ASD. pinilit nung mom kasi yung previous 3 docs na baka ADHD lang yung bata since he has eye contact (which is not very decisive naman as a trait)... which is why i wouldnt really recommend na alamin ng mga mommies yung contents ng tests para hindi biased.

 i would suggest you go to the same dev ped for the following check ups kasi at least kilala na nya yung bata and hindi nasayang yung rapport building.

matanung ko lang sis pagka "disorder" ba is it a lifelong condition din like asd? i mean hndi ba sya curable kung hndi treatable lang?.....

mga sis may mga kilala ba kayo na namisdiagnose ang anak like for sample nun unag sabi may asd daw anak nila then nung huli wala naman pala..

^darna88, 4th checkup na kasi ng son ko. nag ask na kasi ako para at least alam ko at ready ako kung anong situation ng son ko. sabi ng doc nya nakaka comprehend naman daw sya ang main problem nya eh yung expressive. pag may mga questions sa kanya na open ended or questions na need ng explanation or reasoning medyo nalilito pa. pero pag questions na yes or no lang ang sagot nakakasagot sya ng tama. sabi naman ng mga teachers nya nakaka comprehend naman daw, kasi super likot.

It's a case to case basis and we can never tell. It may be life long for some and some children catch up. Whatever diagnosis your doctor gives your child, anak mo pa din yan. Just because he has a medical diagnosis, doesnt mean he is sick and needs a cure.he as a disorder and needs intervention. Having a child, with or without ASD, is a blessing.

thanks sis for the advice yup he is truly a blessing to me iam just in a situation right now na worried sa future nya like pag tumanda na kami pano na sya parang i can't help but to look what lies ahead sa kanya in the future  pag matanda na or wala na kami na parents nya.

hi mga sis, hindi na namin naabutan iyong devped, sa october na next visit, nagstart na rin magbehavioral theraphy ang anak ko and naevaluate na rin ng speech pathologist, sabi mga 6 to 9 months delayed speech ng anak ko para sa age niya, typical tv talker, kasi nasobrahan nga sa gadgets, d ko alam na ganito ang epekto sa mga bata, hopefully my son would catch up soon for his language.
