Yung panganay ko at 3 years old, super bulol, tapos kokonti pa lang alam sabihin.

im also worried with my 17 month old baby. bunso ko. puro babbles lang din.
at what age ako dapat magpanic na? or should i be panicking now? yung kuya niya kasi medyo maaga sa lahat ng bagay. walking, talking at tsaka ma-tricks. he picks up easily din.

i don't really want to compare pero nakakaworry lang talaga.
should i be consulting experts na? or should i still wait?

My son is now 2.7 yrs old.. pero bulol pa din.. Nung una medyo worried din ako na delayed speech niya kasi kahit madaldal di mo talaga maiintindihan salita niya.. before 2 yrs old dami niya alam na single words like cat, dog, car etc.. pero kapag nagbuo na siya ng sentence talagang di mo maiintindihan.. Kahit ngayon bulol pa din.. at his age now nakakabuo na sya ng mga 2-3 word phrase.. kaso yung ibang tao na nakakarinig sa kanya minsan di naiintindihan so kami lagi taga translate.. hahaha.. tagalog namin siya kinakausap pero dahil laging nanunuod ng mga videos dami din siyang alam na english.. minsan nagugulat nalang kami bigla niyang sasabihin "hey look its a car etc)" " what's that?" "i know" "we'll see"... nakaaliw lang kasi pag ka 2 yrs old niya memorize na niya ang alphabet, numbers, animals & animal sounds, colors, shapes etc.. na memorize nya ang twinkle2x, itsy bitsy spider, phonics and a lot more (kaso nga bulol pero marerecognize mo naman yung kinakanta niya).. sobrang galing ng photo memory and imagination.. kahit nga member ng one direction kilala niya individually.. haha..

Kaso napansin ko lang sa kanya pag nagtatanong ako example "hows your day?" or "kumain ka na?" di niya sasagutin yung tanong ko.. ididivert niya yung usapan sa ibang bagay. Pag may kinukwento ako iibahin niya yung usapan..

Hello mga sis, i just want to share my son's story... pero before that to those sis who have questions re the speech level of their child kindly backread on page 24... there was a post regarding that.... na ilang words ang dapat nasasabi na ng bata at his/her age.

so here's my story...my son is 4.5yrs old, at his age he should be able to communicate well however he can't. I consulted my cousin who is a sped teacher about my son's case. As per her initial assessment, she did not see any red flags pero I was advised to have him check by a developmental pedia. We both know that my son is delayed in speech however we have no idea if it's severe or not.

Right a way, i called Dra Avendano's clinic for schedule. Why Dra Avendano? My cousin handles her patients before so may idea ako what to expect from her. I got a schedule with her kaso one week from it I changed my mind. I had my son checked by Dr Planta... i chose him because of his clinic location, near lang kasi sa amin. Anyway, as per his assessment my son has developmental language disorder. He's 4yrs old but his speech level is 2yrs old. Other fields is at par with his age. I think he's delay in both receptive and expressive. He is required to undergo 2x or 3x a week of speech therapy. No Occupation therapy required however we were encouraged.

I just had my son evaluated yesterday at Healing Touch Center for his speech therapy. ... i'm hoping na within a month I can see improvements pero syempre dapat may follow up din ako sa bahay.

I shared our story because for me I delayed my son's intervention. I should have consulted a developmental pedia when he was around 2.5yrs old. Nakikita rin kasi namin na he's delayed pero we did not do anything. I'm late pero its good pa rin that I have him checked.

By the way, as per my sons's dev pedia TV exposure should be a maximum of 2hours only per day. For those children below 2yrs old, there should be no TV exposure. It shortens attention span of a child daw kasi and there's no interaction. One way lang daw kasi yun mga educational cartoons like Dora... if mapapansin nyo most kids na nanonood nun either they can talk pero hindi conversational or nakakapagsalita pero ang iksi ng attention span meaning di mapaupo sa isang tabi... malikot. Sabi ko nga sa hubby ko parang daming delayed talker ngayon hirap kumuha ng slot for speech therapy eh... sagot nya dami na kasi gadget ngayon di na tulad ng panahon natin lagi tayo may kalaro sa labas so na improve ang social and communication skills natin. May sense din naman yun sinabi nya. As early as 3, you may enroll them to play group activities para you can check his/her social skills and may matutunan din words ang mga anak nyo dun. If still no improvement or still delayed compared to your child's age group then I highly recommend to have your child assessed by a developmental pedia.

@ KVsWahmmy
he can understand us however he can't express himself. sabi nga nun evaluation for speech therapy, the issue daw is more on the expressive side rather than the receptive. one thing na napansin ko din since tinanong ako nun evaluation is he doesn't ask question/s. diba sa ganun age matanong na yan, for example pag sinabi mong don't go outside because it's hot dapat magatatanong yan ng bakit... or bakit mainit pero siya hindi. sasagot nya he'll wear cap.

minsan you can see his frustrations kasi he likes to tell you stories... pero he can't. he just combine the words he know in a sentence na ang dating eh parang barok or iba yun meaning. minsan nasasabi ko na di ko maintindihan kwento nya, magkakamot sya ng ulo. nakakalungkot pag ganun. then gagawin nya while telling stories may actions para mas maintindihan ko lang.

he can express pag nasaktan sya or may hindi sya gusto... kung may gusto din sya. ang kulang is yun conversational.... then marami pa rin syang jargons.

my step-son has special needs and he doesn't talk till 6 yrs old (dun ko sya nakilala) what i do is kahit na di sya nagsasalita i would talk to him pa rin like a normal usapan, ang mahirap pa nun he's french and does not understand a word of english but since di ako nagsasalita ng french dati puro english salita ko sa kanya and tagalog, now he can speak french, english and tagalog and super daldal na nya.

My 10 month old daughter does not babble or imitate us. Is it too early to tell or pwedeng sign na din to? She'd coo aaahhh or oooohhhhh but that's about it. Most of the babies her age would babble consonants na like dada, mama and tata. Worried ako. Di pa sya marunong magclap or kahit anong turo namin. I hope it's nothig serious. :(

^ It is not too early.  My sons were first assessed by a developmental pedia at 11 months old.  Just like your daughter, they were not hitting their milestones (more on the gross motor area) on time.  But they were okay at that time sa social skills like babbling/trying to talk, clapping, smiling, playing peek-a-boo, etc.

Para mapanatag ka, see a dev pedia.

hi sis lentot, we pretty much have the same case. my son naman is 4.2 years old.
ang issue ko ngaun, yung current pedia (how do i say it)... parang hindi naniniwalang may problem sa anak ko... the 1st time i brought up the issue was it think june 2012. sinabi lang nya na he doesn't see anything wrong with him. let him go to school at baka magulat ka na lang madaldal na sya etc.
what he recommended was a hearing test - where fortunately ALL TEST PASSED! Having that result, napanatag kami at sympre very happy (kasi nga baka he has problem sa hearing kung bakit di sya nagsasalita). additionally pa, the EENT commented na i dont see your kid autistic (sooooper uber hingang maluwag talaga kami with that comment). She asked pa my kid of a high5 and my son made high5 agad-agad! i think one way of testing him.
but then, after all those months, YES, he improved a lot. but just like sis lentot's kid - ganun din sya.
palagi kami ang nag-iinitiate ng talking, minsan napapaisip ako kung he understands me (although mostly i feel he does naman kasi he reacts and folllows me). i can tell him to take off his clothes and shoes and put it in the shoe rack or in the laundry bin etc. he also goes to the cr by himself. we actually find him very independent.
ang main problem ko lang with him is the conversation. alam nyo un [textspeak!] talking WITH HIM as in bothway sana kaso with im parang one way lang. hindi ko rin kasi sya kinakikitaan ng wanting to tell stories or something like that. basta whatever you ask, walang sagot un. except when i ask him what's his name and age, yun sinasgot nya. the rest wala na. but he's so good in letters, numbers and colors and SPELLING!!! as in on his own lang! like when we see a dog or cat or house or moon, id let him spell it and he will correctly! kaya in my heart i know he's a smart boy  ;)

at eto nga, kanina bumalik na naman kami sa pedia niya (btw, head sya ng Pediatrics sa PGH & professor - kaya naman we trust him that much). hayun, still he did not recommended us to see a DevPed. ang sabi nya to observe 3 to 6 months more...
kaya nga sis lentot, nun sinabi mo na you should have taken intervention earlier, naisip ko din un para sa kid ko.
i think this time, id get a 2nd opinion and see a DevPed para matahimik ako... although there is a tendency din naman in me to over react on things kaso with this mother feeling i just feel na i want to see a DevPed.
what im thinking lang sa ngaun is WHO?

^Hi Sis. My son's current devped in Asian Hospital is really good, Dr. Moral. He is undergoing speech and occupational therapy now.

hi sis,

na try nyo na syang mag enroll sa school? maganda ang development ng son ko sa summer class nya. he's enrolled too this coming june and may speech therapy din once a week. if all else fail then have him check or if para sa kapapanatag ng luob mo have him check na. where are you from sis? mine is Dr Planta. he's good. You may want to check Dra Tanchanco also, she has clinic in st luke's & med mom clinic. Other dev pedia are Dr Dimalanta and Dra Eusebio. back read ka lang sis and may topic dito all about dev pedia. you can read feedback there about them. good luck =)

My son is turning 5 this October...he's good in numbers, colors, shapes and alphabet pero before sobrang deadma syang makipagusap at madalas gibberish pa sya. Early this year we went to Med City and pinaasses sa Dep Pedia and tapos nagpasecond opinion pa kami sa Marian (Feu hospital)  and sabi samin he's just one of those late bloomer. He'll catch up by age of 5...advise samin ilessen panonood nya ng TV kahit na educational program pa instead engange him to play, enroll sa play camp and talk to him everyday plus talk to him in one language lang..sinunod namin lahat except dun sa one language lang kasi taglish talaga sya. Nun una parang alanganin kami at hopeless na kaso nga two dev ped na un kaya nityaga namin and now he's going to school na, talkative nadin both language (english and tagalog) although me jargon padin na konti. basta nagulat nalang kami isang araw he's singing song na, telling us stories and what happen next sa pinapanood nya if replay.

She was advised lang na i-observe and talk to him ng madalas. Nakakatuwa nga minsan kapag nagkukwento yung anak nya may pagka-animated.

same concern din sis yang, i'm a soon to be mom. My cousin's son is 4 yo and hindi pa din matatas mag salita. It worries me baka namamana din?

to answer the question kung namamana ang pagiging delayed talker, unfortunately yes. it was discussed by my son's dev ped kung sa family may delayed talker and ilang taon kami nagsalita ng hubby ko. maaga ako nagsalita kaso till age 7 or 8 bulol pa rin ako. yung hubby ko late nagsalita almost 5 na yata sya. so namamana nga talaga... sabe nga nila 80% daw ng brain ng anak galing sa nanay dunno kung totoo yun, hehe.

i would suggest sa mga mommies... na medyo delayed sa speech ang anak to enroll them sa mga play group. malaking tulong yun sa speech and social skills. magbibigay naman ng feedback ang teachers kung may special needs ang anak nyo. early intervention is good too. may list of milestones naman so if you think na your child is not hitting his/her milestone/s on time have him/her check na. lessen tv/gadget exposure too.... at tyagain kausapin ng madalas ang anak.
