@PrincessChill, ang preemies generally by the time they reach 2 years old or 24 months, dapat naka-catch up na sila sa full-term peers nila.  Otherwise, the delay may be due to factors other than their being born premature.  Early intervention really helps.  I cannot stress it enough.  Walang magagawa ang wait and see attitude.  Sayang ang oras!

My baby is 1.9yo nagsasalita pero hindi din maintindihan..puro car lang and mom pag may gusto lang sya food hawak ko..pero nung 1.2 sya nasasabi niya na ater(water), te (ate), door, Ta (tita), Chard (richard) I'm staying with my aunts and cousins non then yung me, maid and.my mom na lang puro car and mom lang..pagnagpplay sya car since 1yo ginagaya nya sound ng car..pag sa Kevin's or active fun naman nakkipagplay sya with kids pero yung older ones, hndi yung kaage nya..pagnakiipaglaro laging nag-rrrrrrrrrr... Kaya yung small kids natatakot.
And pagtinatawag Ko sya by his name minsan tumitingin minsan hindi..and pag sa play area hyper sya yung ibang kids pagod ngmmilk or sleep na, sya Takbo pa din ng takbo..
Mommies need na ba pacheck or wait til 2yo? And saan sis pwede ienrol playgroup sa qc m near trinoma..

I have a Ph.D in Linguistics but knowing all the language acquisition theories do not help, haha! My daughter is 2 years and 8 months old but she can only say single words unlike some of her peers na phrases or sentences na. I used to worry till some of my Ph.D students told me na sila din, one of them did not speak till she was about 5 years old! And this student of mine is a an English teacher now in St. Scho and a brilliant researcher. She is very articulate.

I think I'll stop worrying for now. It's highly individualized because it depends on so many factors and the combination and timing of these factors. :)

At 17months my son only says papa, didi, tata, hi, Yaya and some other random syllables. Pero they say nga, children are different..so im letting him learn on his own pace. As long as he tries to communicate with us, understand commands and is active and happy, i will not pressure him. I tried enrolling him at gymboree trinoma and he enjoyed it a lot, you should let your child experience it too! :)

Yeah, Gymboree is okay for little children.  What I don't like lang is how the teachers at Gymboree usually speak in a high-pitched, singsong voice.  Hindi naman ganoon ang normal way of speaking.

^It annoys me to death when I hear adults (even parents) talk to children like that. Hahaha. Ang sungit.  ;D

^ Your MIL means well and only wants the best for her grandson.   I actually agree with her because she is pro-active.  A specialist (developmental pedia, speech therapist or speech pathologist) is the best and most qualified person to assess whether a child's language development is at par with his age.

As mentioned in this thread and in the dev pedia thread, early intervention is key to resolving any delay.  Not that I am saying na delayed ang anak mo ha.  My point is that being pro-active is not necessarily bad.  I'd rather do something now than wait.  This is just me of course (and your MIL hehe). :)

hello mga sis...

son ko delayed talk din and just started na maging madadaldal when he turns 4 pero compare sa other kids medyo late padin.

Kahapon we went to Medical City's Center for Developmental Pediatrics (CDP) for screening dahil na din sa kagustuhan ni husband and his parents.

We we're told na okay naman yun anak ko and actually very smart pa nga daw. Tinanong kami ng routine sa house and his daily activities. From that they advise us na mag stop watching tv na dahil most cases now a days daw ng delayed talk sa mga kids ay due to tv dahil kahit educational pinapanood eh napaka fast pacing naman daw so end out walang focus bata at hirap umintindi and make sure me daily interaction samin. They also advice na dalhin sa mga playground para makipag interact with other kids and enroll to a class nadin since he's not studying pa. We we're also told na practice only one languange dahil it confuse the child na kausapin in english and tagalog. dapat if tagalog then tagalog lang at if english eh english lang.

hi mga sis! my daughter is 2 years and 3 months and only says daddy, hello, and babye... this is what happened.. we were from the US.. when she turned 1, we went here to Manila for a vacation. we stayed here for 5 months and she can say.. Mama (when she needs me), la na (if there's none na), bye, daddy, hindi and she follows some words i ask her to say. But then, when we returned to the US, the words she was saying suddenly disappeared... she understands what i say naman when i ask her to do something, nasasayangan lang ako why nawala na sinasabi nya. kayo, how did you encourage na magtalk ang baby nyo?

Hi Sisses! My son doesn't talk that much yet. Maybe the key is to let them socialize. :)

Hello po. Newbie here. My son is 17 months old and wala pa talaga syang alam na word. Thanks!

@ 3 years and 1 month my son cant even say a single word. he just makes sounds likle grrrrr  juju kekekeke puro ganun lang pero minsan nasasabi nya wawa or og
kinakausap ko naman pero kahit ulitulitin ayaw nya magsalita.  when he is mad and i say no! or ayyyy! nagagalit sya and he says things like wuwuwuwu
napansin ko nakakasalita sya at the height of his emotions like when he's really angry, happy or sad.

pero sis yun mama and papa?

my son is 4yrs old, actually he just turned 4 last jan. medyo delayed na rin sya since yun mga same age nya sentences na and may conversation na. sya kasi for example i asked him "how was your sleep?" walang reply... di nya alam sasagot nya. i enrolled him sa galileo to catch up, may improvement naman kaso di kasi everyday yun twice a week so onte lang natutunan nya. last year i called dra avendano's clinic (she's a dev pedia) to seek appt.. this year ang sched nya.

i suggest sis kung wala pang kahit anong single word kahit mama or papa... or wiwi or poo poo... have him check ng isang dev pedia or try mo muna enroll sa mga kid activities like kindermusik.... gymboree... baka sakali madevelop yun speech.

My daughter din who was recommended for speech therapy when she was only 1.7months old by one dev-ped, na hindi ko naman sinunod, meaning no speect therapy or OT whatsoever, ngayon kami na ang nakikiusap na please tigil naman ng saglit sa pagsasalita.
