I ask for a soft copy of the evaluation nga eh  ko dun sa mukha ng pedia.

@snowyice, a regular pedia can diagnose autism if the signs are manifest.  However, the developmental pedia can further confirm the finding after a thorough assessment.  I think saying that a regular pedia has no K or capability to diagnose autism when the signs are obvious is a bit too harsh.  If the parent doubts the regular pedia, he is free to seek a second opinion. :)

I also do not think it is fair to accuse (without solid basis) pediatricians and medical professionals of referring patients for the sake of commission.  Hinay hinay ng konti sa words natin kung wala tayong ebidensiya. :)  And going so far as to slap a report on a doctor's face is too harsh.  Let's all stick to the topic (delayed talker, not autism diagnosis/misdiagnosis) and not make this a thread for ranting on doctors. :)

@chicafabulosa, I believe there may have been a miscommunication between you and the doctor.  If you have any doubt about the doctor's finding, you can always seek a second opinion from another specialist.

^sorry sis if I sound offensive but I just want to let you know na mga doctors din kasi ang nagsabi sa akin na they don't have the right to conclude na may autism/adhd or something else yung bata they just refer them and let the developmental pedia do the diagnosis.  Pedia hopping kasi ako eh kaya marami akong pedia na nakausap. Yung anak ko sobrang obvious na may problem yung 2nd child niya hindi pa rin nagsalita yung pedia ang sabi lang sa kanya basta dalhin mo yan dito sa ganitong doctor para maicheck...they should know their limitation din kasi hindi porket may alam sila alam na nilang lahat.  ;D

and about sa commission I did not say na may commission sila...if you read my post I said

"basta hinay hinay lang may mga dr talaga na parang timang sarap sapukin may commission kaya sila sa mga developmental pedia kaya mahilig silang magrefer?  "

hinay hinay lang tayo sa pagbabasa para hindi tayo magkamali! peace!  ;D

^ Apologies for misreading. :)

Let's be civil and avoid using words like timang, sapak and the like.  This is a very informative thread pa naman.  And remember, it is about a delayed talker, not necessarily a thread about autism and pedias.  May separate thread ang developmental pedia, fyi. :)

I completely agree with marose17. If ANYONE (pedia, friends, relatives) suspects that your child has autism (because of delayed speech and a host of other symptoms), it is best to consult a dev ped for a thorough assessment. In my opinion, it is better for a regular pedia to alert you and refer you to a dev ped than another who says nothing until it is late. Masakit makarinig na something is wrong with your child, but this is not about the parents/parents' ego, it is about the child's welfare. As always advised here, early intervention is best. If it turns out that the child is OK after consultation with a dev ped, we should be happy about it; absolutely hindi sayang ang ibinayad ng magulang to know, rather than worrying whether the child does or doesn't have autism/delay problems.

Snowyice, you said so yourself, "...mga doctors din kasi ang nagsabi sa akin na they don't have the right to conclude na may autism/adhd or something else yung bata they just refer them and let the developmental pedia do the diagnosis," so it is unfair to INSINUATE that general pedias get commissions from dev peds.

@marose, I did. I asked and talked to my son's real pedia and she was so mad to have his diagnosis sa isang beses na nakita nya agad anak ko. While my pedia has been monitoring my son since his birth and didn't see any sign of autism. Kaya never ako babalik sa pedia na nagsabi na yun as adviced na rin ng pedia ko. kahit malayo sya, tyatyagain ko na lang. weird lang kasi when my son is with his real pedia di naman ganun ka clingy baby ko. he interacts with her and talk to her and play with her pa nga. I doubt may miscommunication kame dun sa pedia na nakausap ko kasi inulit ulit ko yung mga indication "daw" na autistic baby ko. and he kept on saying na may chance na autistic anak ko. kaya right after my visit with him, I immediately call my Pedia and told her his exact words and yung mga signs na sinasabi nya which she finds impossible lalo na first time lang nya nakita yung bata plus wala pang 15 minutes yung bata sa loob ng room nya. so sabi ng pedia ko, paano nya nasabi agad na may sign of autism anak ko.

@marose17 sorry for the term...if you have a child you will know how it feels it's not as simple as may ubo at sipon ang anak mo.  ;D well so much for that let's move on since the thread is about delayed talker na related sa autism ...fyi  ;D

@DV again I did not said that they get commission...again, please read carefully.  ;D

Right, you didn't outright say it, but it is an INSINUATION, like I said.

i go for playschool! laki ng improvement ni baby after one month sa playschool. fear ko rin dati na maexposed na sya sa mga sakit esp kung may classmate na sakitin, so far wala naman. nagkasipon at ubo sya, pero attributed to the weather na rin siguro yun. tama lang decision namin not to pursue the speech therapy since mukhang hindi pa naman sya magiging compliant. ayaw ko namang ipasok sya ng OT kahit wala namang issue sa behavior. on november meron kaming sked ki dra tanchangco. pag nagrequeat pa rin ng speech therapy then will go for it na siguro. kasi more than 2 yo na sya nyan. at yun na bale ang second opinion namin. but as for now, we really can see her development. kapitbahay ko nga 3+ years old, parang biglang nainggit. balak raw nilang ihabol sa enrolment haha. kasi kahit sila nakita rin nila biglang mas naging bibo si baby. samantalang nung mag-eenrol pa lang kami e panay kontra, anak nga raw nila hindi pa nila ipapasok kasi maaga pa raw.e turning 4yo na yun. hehe

@chicafabulosa, Sorry to hear about your experience with that pedia, sis.  I think tama kang huwag na bumalik sa kanya.   :)

Anyway, for your reference, I posted somewhere in this thread about a guide on speech development given by my children's dev pedia.  May verbal milestones doon na naka-indicate.  Kindly backread na lang if you have time. :)

@snowyice, my two children regularly go to a developmental pedia.  Aside from being born premature (which is why we took them when they were only 11 months old) and not hitting the milestones when they were babies, they have no other developmental issues.  In fact, they were deemed to be developmentally at par with their peers.  Right now, after a year of dilly-dallying, my husband and I finally heeded the dev ped's recommendation to send them to an OT center to address the lag (not exactly a delay naman) in their fine motor skills development.  Believe me, I know how you feel.  I thought my kids were perfectly okay, especially since they are very verbal and at 4 years old, they speak complete sentences and know complex words and could converse logically with adults.  But, there is this one aspect that needs a little push.  Akala namin ma-address sa preschool.  Pero hindi enough yun kaya heto, OT na.  Just being pro-active.  I think being defensive/hurt/emotional about findings is normal, but for the sake of our children, mas maganda kung positive at pro-active tayo.  So for me, mas okay na magkonsulta at masabihan ako kung may delay or lag, kesa maghintay na lang makapagsalita ang bata.  Sayang kasi ang time.  Early intervention is best for children who have delayed speech development.

@DV peace!  it's personal opinion publicly expressed!  I didn't drop any name of pedia  ;D

I'm just trying to help those sisses na nasa ganitong situation based on my own experience so one way nag vevent out din ako ng pagkainis ko sa pedia ng anak ko kasi ang kulit kulit niya na ipacheck ko yung anak ko but when I got to the Dev pedia she said she can't see any signs and she is wondering why my son was referred to her ang masasabi lang niya sobrang creative yung anak kaya may tendency na ayaw sumonod dahil mas marami siyang idea sa utak niya na mas maganda which is a compliment for me.

@ marose17 you're right!  every parent will give the best to their childen.  Yung friend ko nga binigay yung 1 kidney niya sa son niya.

@chicafabulosa everything is just fine. Charge to experience.

This thread is to help those who are confused about their situation huwag na sana nating hiluhin pa sila.  ;D

hi mga sis, i actually read, back reads all the post here. my daughteris now 3.4 y/o. i dont know where to start actually.

when my daughter turns 2 she barely speak a word except when shes watching dora, un lang nasusundan nya, as early as 6 months as far as i remember expose na sya sa tv and she loves dora and un yaya nya hindi sya kinakausap plus parati sya nakadede, even iinom ng water nakalagay sa bote pa.a friend of mine noticed her na tinatawag daw nya, that was during her 2nd bday pero hindi daw lumilingon. and then i spoke k hubby about that wagko daw isipin [textspeak!] wala daw deprensya anak namin, alam mo un stage na denial pa. so nagtest naman ako sa bahay tinatawag ko sya lumilingon naman kinakausap ko nakatingin naman sa akin. un nga lang ala talaga response and she speaks non sence pa talaga. when she reaches 2.7 na waiting and hoping pa din ako na magsasalita na sya pero wala pa talaga, pero she can count naman. she mastered 1-10 already. sinama ko sya sa office actually for treak or treat and another officemate of mine talk to me na parang there seems to be a problem daw with her. that time i was preggy with our second child, so imagine un hirap na acceptance talaga. and i tried to seacrh sa net mga dev.ped that time. also btw, hubby is working abroad he comes home every other month lang so ako lang talaga. i talk to her teacher and ask ko kung ano observation nya sabi nga nya kapag poor eye contact and hindi sya tinatawag na teacher unlike sa ibang students nya. and so i called sa mga dev ped and it really took me months para sa check up, and that time i am really hopeless na san makakakuha ng slot luckily when i called dr dimalantas office the secretary refer me sa global city clinic nila and maybe i can get earlier sked daw [textspeak!] its a new clinic. so ayun i have her checked up, and dr dimalanta adviced us un nga ang tv time is 1 hour lang a day and to read her books before sleeping time.

my daughter now is still having her ot and speech but un speech nya is like mga 3months pa lang. as of now, very happy naman ako with the results though hirap sya mag construct ng sentence though she's trying naman like sasabihin nya close door. if she wants something sinasabi na nya kung ano ang gusto nya and shes starting na din to ask question na whats this, lahat ng bago sa kanya tatanungin nya ng whats this...she can also imitate na kaya lang minsan ipoprompt pa talaga sya.

i also give birth na with our second child, problem ko naman now is i know she cant express herself pa talaga and i know most of the time nagseselos sya, minsan napapalo ko na sya. hindi ko alam panong approanch ba ang gagawin ko sa kanya. and also im starting working again, i am not sure kung tama ba ang desisyon ko na mag work na ulit given the situation. she's into school na naman 4 times a week, she's still have her home based ot for twice a week and speech na once a week. minsan nakaka frustrate na un ibang bata at her age eh nagkukwento na, though ayaw ko talaga mag compare sa ibang bata. i see naman her improvements na...hay ang hirap. sobrang haba na atanito maybe you can help me on how to handle ang situation na selos with her younger bro

sis halos lahat ng bata nagseselos kapag may bagong baby kasi siyempre kaagaw niya yun sa attention mo.  My sis in-law had her 2nd baby after 13years and yung panganay nagselos pa din.  My friends use these :
1. may playmate ka na
2. ikaw baby #1 siya baby #2 or ikaw baby girl siya baby boy
3. ask her to help you with the baby like give ng food or anything

about sa pagwowork I would say if kaya naman ni hubby huwag ka na lang mag work para mas mabigyan mo sila ng attention like I said before mas gusto ng mga yaya makipag text kesa turuan magsalita yung baby natin.  ;D

^^ Sis, continue lang with the therapy.  I also suggest para in sync ang school at ang therapy, mag-set ka ng conference with the OT, ST and teachers ng daughter mo.  They should set goals for your daughter and a plan of action to address her speech delay.  Hopefully, maka-catch up siya.

Also, read to her and talk to her always.  Advise the househelp and yaya to talk to her.  If intimidated ang HH sa English, speaking in Tagalog is fine.  Mas okay naman yun kaysa hindi na lang kausapin ang bata.

Also, mag-research ka on language development.  And be pro-active na with your second child. If you notice anything amiss, consult a specialist and do not wait for something to happen.   Being in denial does not do any good to our children. :)

What was the diagnosis of Dr. Dimalanta, if I may ask?  And when is the follow-up check-up with him?
