will be back after 5 months ki dra manalo and it will be on september. then will pursue the appointment with dra tanchanco on november, for comparison na rin ng results.

wag ka lang masyado mainip sis once matutunan ka na niyang tawagin na mommy, ikaw din mananawa sa kakatawag niya sa yo. like my son, when he was around 18mos madalang parin niya akong natatawag na mama but now mayat maya tatawagin ka niya na mama... may ipin point lang na picture sa book niya pag di ka nakatingin sa kanya mama ng maa. minsan naman no reason at all mama ng mama ang cute pa nman tumawag sa akin akala mo emergency lagi at may  kelangan talaga sa yo...opo naman ako ng opo everytime na tatawagin niya akong mama minsan nasasawa na ako sa kakasagot sa kanya hehe... son ko naman lahat ng bagay na nasasabi niya kahit bulol na identify naman niya... wait lang konti sis... ako rin inaantay ko rin matuto ng magsalita son ko sabi kasi nila minsan ibang bata by 24mos doon minsan nagstart magboom ang vocabulary nila sana nga it will happen to my son....

^ ganyan rin sabi ng dev ped, there are kids na 24 mos nagccatch up ng language.

prior meeting the dev ped, i was curious, i asked our pedia kung meron din bang nagpapa-assess na normal ang findings sa bata? i was thinking, i used to read a certain note from almost all baby sites,  baby books, even here at gt. " babies have different milestones, develop at their own phase". if that is the case, pag nagpagawa ng development assessment, wala sigurong perfect talaga? there will always be advance and delay.

^ I agree that babies develop at their own pace.  But as parents, we must be pro-active so that we can help our children fulfill their potential.  If there is a delay in one aspect of their development and there is an opportunity for us to address this delay either by pursuing activities at home that will hasten the development, or enrolling our kid in therapy to make him catch up, then that will be good for our baby.

As a mother who works and therefore cannot make tutok my kids, I am glad for these developmental check-ups.  It makes me more aware kasi of my kids' development, especially since twins sila and they also have their own pace in each area.  Being pro-active about these things helps me be a better mother to my children.  For me, it helps to discuss my kids' development with a professional kasi nga I am not with my kids 24/7.

For example (and para on topic ako), my children were also delayed talkers though thankfully they did not have to go to a speech therapist.  The dev ped discussed with me, my husband and the yaya ways to hasten my children's speech development, such as talking to them always, reading to them, not anticipating their needs all the time to let them verbalize, avoiding tv, etc.  And I can say that her recommendations worked for my children.  So there.  Better for me talaga to have learned these things from a professional rather than second-guessing my kids and waiting for them to just start talking without doing anything.

we did the advise of his OT teacher, yung nililingon namin yung face niya when we say his name. lagi din may mention ng name niya before, in almost all sentence. like " ____, please get the towel", "____, do you like this?", " ____, here is your toy". we also used one name lang, then lahat din kame same names naririnig niya para kame din makilala niya. ngayon, hindi na namin masyado ginagawa yung ganun kasi he has learned to respond na to his name. i am quite amazed that now he is asking his playmates verbally on what he wants, like asking his cousin to lie down with him, etc.

sis babymom20, these few tips might help. this is based on my pamangkin's speech theraphy and OT na din. hindi naman kelangan lahat gagawin sa isang araw basta mag-allot ka lang ng 1-2hrs na time for study. medyo mababa pa kasi attention span ng kids so mas ok if dahan dahan lang. pwedeng mas madalas na play/study pero like only 20mins each lang na activity, 3-4x a day.

1. start with 1-word or 2-word command (like get the box, open box) then adjust to 3, paunti unti.  he has to respond and he has to verbalize as well when he needs something. ang advise sa amin is that huwag bibigay sa gusto hanggat hindi siya nag-attempt magsalita.

2. make a time to tell stories and read book to the kid. make it a daily habit.

3. introduce new words using flash cards or any other visual props. kame we even demonstrate what an action word means. we use the Montessori approach. like, you say "___, this is a book.", "where is the book", he has to point to it. then ask again. "what is this?" he has to answer. book. ganun.

4. sing and dance actions songs. this will help them increase vocabulary.

5. advance to more words required in a sentence as time progress. this is to help them build vocabulary.

6. practice one step command then later on move to 2 step commands para it is not just verbalization, it is also practice for the kid to understand more. sabe nga, utusan mo yung bata from time to time.

7. keep asking questions to the kid, like reviewing. basta make it fun lang kasi bata yan and madali mabored. make time for puzzles and other educational activities. they started with shapes na ishoot, then progressed to puzzles -- from as low as 2pc to 24pc. my pamangkin can now build a 16pc puzzle without help at the age of 3:)

8. if the child seems to have problem pronouncing the word, medyo i-exaggerate nyo lang ang pagbigkas. kailangan kasi makita nila maige kung paano yung galaw ng lips and tongue. btw, letters L and R being pronounced as W is common to kids. hindi pa kailangan magworry agad about the pronunciation.

9. expose him/her to kids near their age. interaction is very important to kids. mas madaming playmate, mas maganda.

10. don't put pressure on the kid and to your self. they have their own pace and you'll just be surprised na one day, nagasasalita na lang sila. just keep coordinating with your pedia in any case you see any unwanted sign but as long as the kid is a happy kid, don't worry too much. keep on letting them learn, make it a happy experience for them. the more na happy memory sa kid yung pag-aaral niyo at pagtuturo sa kanya, mas magugustuhan niya yun.

11. whatever was taught by your SP and OT, make sure to practice at home.

when i find time to look at his lessons, magsusulat pa ulet ako. note: these are all based on experience. my nephew was non-verbal but now can express himself. siguro there are really kids that you can consider late bloomer but being proactive will never hurt, in fact it is always beneficial for the kid. it's their best that we always aimed for.

babymom, iristacey pretty much covered what I was supposed to write. :)

The best way talaga is to talk to your child often, even about the most trivial things.  Also, reading helps a lot.  Reading fosters language development, cognitive skills and critical thinking.

^thanks soo much sis iristacey and marose!

thanks again! more more more! ;D

Since SAHM ako right now NO TV talaga, minsan kapag ang nagbabantay eh yaya ayun nanonood sila pero kapag nahuli ko automatic turn off, minsan kasi nagkukunwari nalimutan na bawal eh. Pero okay na rin sa commands ang baby ko, like Baby ...sit, stand, kiss, love=hug, bless, before worry din ako kasi kahit ako as her mom hindi niya matukoy pero ngayon kapag sinabi namin Kiss Mommy ako ang i-kikiss niya talaga. Thanks mommies :)

hi sisses :) my daughter is 1 yr and 6 months old now. konti palang din alam nyang words like mama, papa, wala, gogo for dog, got ka for lagot ka, wow, namnam for yumyum, baby, jabee for jollibee, hala. yung iba not clear pa eh parang kung ano ano lang sinasabi niya. delayed talker po ba siya? super likot niya rin grabe as in pag nasa labas kami like sa mall or resto hindi talaga siya uupo ng matagal as in gagala talaga siya! normal ba yun sisses? one more thing is i'm trying to teach her yung mga letters kaso deadma lang eh. pinapanood ko rin siya ng brainy baby before pa siya mag 1 yr old but wala pa rin eh hindi parin siya marunong and parang she's not yet ready to learn pa. eh yung anak ng friend ko na same age niya medyo marunong na eh. i know we can't compare her with other kids but i just can't help it eh. but yung mga drawings sa books like apple, dog ,etc natuturo naman niya. and yung parts of the body natuturo rin niya. haaaayy..  pasensha na po ah 1st baby ko kasi kaya sobrang worried ako. thanks :)

May bata kasing kailangan matuto muna mag-sit still, focus and pay attention, hence the need for OT.

Please backread on some of the stuff I wrote re tv and speech delay link. :)

Talk to your baby always and in complete sentences.  Do not use baby talk and refer to common stuff like water (not mamam) by their names.  Your baby's receptive language (kaya siya nakaka-id ng objects sa pictures) seems to be okay.  It's her expressive language (verbalizing) that is yet to emerge.  Practice, practice, practice by conversing with your baby all the time.  Interaction with adults and older kids I suppose is the best way to develop a baby's expressive language.
