My three year-old sons speak English and Tagalog.  Walang naging problem in terms of comprehension and language dev elopment.

^^My son speaks tagalog english din. I try my best to speak in english all the time and her yaya converses with her ng taglish then my husband speaks with him in tagalog lang. Peers nya and teachers all speak in english. We're based abroad.

Here's an example of my son's sentence "mommy, bata touch kyle's backpack" (meaning hinawakan daw nung bata ang backpack nya). Or "mommy, ipit kyle's feet". He's 2yrs 4 months old

Sa school kasi tinanong sya once ng teacher nya (Her teacher was showing a crocodile puppet), "Kyle, what will you do if you see a crocodile?".. Sumagot si kyle, "Dont like! Ouch bite hand ipit ako".. hindi tuloy nagets ng teacher.. Interpreter si yaya.

^hahaha. ako sis naintindihan ko yung sabe ng baby mo :D

sa amin naman talagang hindi maiwasan na magtagalog. okay lang naman mag 2 language if there is no issue on the development of the kid. the difference kasi is that my nephew is non-verbal before (at the age of 2y 7months super konti ng words na alam) and really is delayed talker that is why the doctor asked us to as much as possible use only one language, in this case english. yun kasi mas naintindihan niya prior to therapy.

my son is 2.8 years old. The speech therapist considered apraxia since he cannot imitate sounds and movements using the facial muscles and the mouth. He is very good in imitating action words but with the area na connected sa speech nya is hindi nya kaya. :( Although he is still young na marami pa din pwede an magbago pag nag tuloy tuloy na ang speech therapy nya.

He is 2.8 years old super konti pa din ng meaningful words nya.Mga 5 lang..hay..

^hopefully macocorrect sya. Advise ng teacher nya is isang parent english and the rest of the members can speak in our native language.

Now, she's 7yrs old, and if you're not looking at her, hindi halatang asian sya. Kung ano ano ang kwento! haha But Ate ko noted na her daughter only started conversing ng maayos when she was almost 4yrs old. Delayed talker sya. My sister is a SAHM.

My Sophia is 1 YO, 1 week and 4days as of today. Last well baby check up namin nung nalaman nung pedia niya na hindi pa siya nagsasalita kahit one word medyo na alarm siya, ofcourse as a mom kadabo naman ako bigla. Kaso kahit Mama, Dada or any clear word wala pa talaga. Pero she points at the things she wants, knows how to kiss and hug when ask and just tonight knows how to bless/mano. She responds when her name is being called. English kami ng daddy niya and yung inlaws ko, tagalog mga tao dito sa bahay, ilonggo yaya and kasambahay namin. Pero simula nung nabasa ko na focus with one language, sinabihan ko yung yaya and kasambahay na magtagalog nalang. And hindi lang lessen TV since SAHM ako right now NO TV na talaga sa anak ko. And following some of our sissies advise here like always talk to my daughter, narrating most of the time.

Taning namin sa pedia niya would be on July 25 na kahit sana Mama or Dada masabi niya.

yung L and R nya nagiging Y, like yung color BLUE ang bigkas nya is BYUE, DORA is DOYA.

saka matigas sya mag  pronounce ng ibang words, like celphone, sabi nya CELPON, yung watch nya, WATS....lol

pero in time magiging fluent na rin sya, si yaya kasi eh.  papasok ko na sya sa nursery sa June, sana magustuhan nya.

^OT lang, naalala ko tuloy yung pamangkin ko. sabe ko kasi "enough na, its too much." sagot sakin na parang masaya "thumas and friends tita". hahaha. nakukuha niya na yung bisaya accent. i remember yung kotse "kotsi". yung dutchmill, "dutchmell". hahaha. but we correct him though.

My daughter started speaking late or later compared to my first child who spoke at exactly 12 mos. At first they said girls talked earlier. But not for my daughter and I tried not to compare the kids. By age 2 and she still didn't speak much, I brought it up to her pedia and said ok Lang daw. Almost 3 and I wanted to send her to a speech therapist already since she would easily get frustrated when we can't understand what she was saying. She was compensating by just pointing. You need to go to one for an assessment before a speech therapist at least in the case of the one we asked about. But before the schedule of the dev pedia my daughter just spoke incessantly. Now, she talks like there's no tomorrow. Sometimes, I think its just the ores sure from other people always asking why your kid isn't speaking yet. Sometimes it's hard to discern between pruning Lang ba or legit cause of worry. Kung OA or pro Active Lang. In the end, it's our gut feel since we know our child best.

don't worry sis ok parin kasi your son can identify and name you as mami, his dad as dadi okay na okay na nga un sis.

with the case of my son, he is madaldal but gibberish.  very minimal words and [textspeak!] dulo lang like WATER, nasasabi lang nya is TER.  He went on to be like that for almost three years.  I was quite of worried na but an occupational therapist and a speech therapist told me to expose him more and stimulation will do him good and that I should consider enrolling him in a day care since isang anak palang sya wala syang kausap.

Thank God he is now turning seven years old and had been awarded first honor last March upon graduation and from nursery to prep first honor sya :)

just done with our development assessment with dra stella manalo. and findings was 4 months delay sa language and social skills. ok ang social nya but nahatak daw ng language because it goes hand in hand. but its not alarming naman daw. its not a disorder pa. there are some na nagcacatch up pag 24 months old na. biglang dumadaldal. but she recommended speech therapy kahit once a week lang daw, that is to enhance/stimulate language concept, for vocabulary. may words na rin kasi syang nasasabi but hindi naman nya mapinpoint kung ano yun. "eyes" lang ang swak na swak. and ayaw ko rin namang hintaying maging disorder pa before kami mag therapy. goodluck na lang kung may makuha kaming slot agad.

but other skills nya are all fine.Locomotor (gross motor skills), eye-hand coordination (fine motor skills) and performance (construction and puzzles). advance yung construction and puzzles nya kaya total mental age is delayed ng 1.7 months. nahatak naman ng score ng performance yung language and social. hay sana humabol agad.:-(

That's good to know, babymom.  At least, mapapanatag ka na.  Hope you can find a speech therapist immediately.

^ thanks marose! thanks sa ideas sa thread! and mas panatag na po ako kasi ang most worry ko nun is her hyperactivity pero findings naman was developmentally appropriate daw. kala ko kiti-kiti na si baby hehe

pinuri pa ako ni dra. buti pa raw ako pro-active mom unlike sa ibang parents daw na very evident na ang delay e in denial pa rin. di ko na nasabi na well-informed lang ako dito sa gt kasi hehe. si baby kasi panay hatak na palabas di na tuloy ako nakachika. partida pa nga si baby kasi 38.2 temperature nya kanina at halos walang kain dahil sa sobrang sipon. pero parang wala naman daw nararamdaman kasi panay pa rin ang likot. but no problem daw sa hyperactivity kasi napaupo naman nung binigyan nung toy puzzles, short attention span lang daw but normal for her age pa. :-)
