jenny_2284...ask ko lang sis, sinong speech specialist yung pinuntahan mo for your kid..nagka-interes lang ako instead sa dev.ped na napaka-hirap magpa-sched (kase konti lang sila)..may pede kaba i-refer saken? how much ang PF nila? per session ba yan sis? TIA

pasali po mga sis! yung akin naman 20months old na tamad din magsalita pero nakakaintindi naman sya! madaming sya murmuring pero di maintindihan...

mga sis, how would you know if delayed talker ang isang bata?

my 16 mos old baby can say few words, i'd say na medyo tamad magsalita, when we're practicing her, there are times na sumusunod, pero pag paulit ulit na, ayaw na.  at times naman, mas gusto nya ng harder words like - strawberry, triangle, diaper

yung kapitbahay naman namin na kasing age ng baby ko, grabe, ang galing na magsalita, parang 2 1/2 na pag kinausap mo.

i'm not really worried on her speech development, it's more of inggit sa kapitbahay, hehe. ang bilis lang ng development nya sa area na un pero motor skills, mas mabilis baby ko sa kanya. iba iba lang siguro talaga development ng bata.

^ officially, ang alam ko dev pedia and speech pathologist lang makakasabi nun kasi may mga valid checklist sila...

pero you may check online yung mga possible milestone ng bata in terms of speech and language...

ako kasi, i was able to get a checklist made by someone na pang phd thesis nya yata yun... hindi pa valid that time, pero yun na lang ginagamit ko...

and mapapansin mo din kung talker ba yung bata or not.

but the best way to identify this is thru a dev pedia talaga.

my son was diagnosed with delayed in speech last january. nakapag start kami ng speech therapy nya march. only last month sa st lukes, grabe laki difference kapag nakaka twice a week kami. and big factor sa kanya ang therapy center...

sa ngayon, may initiative na anak ko to talk without any prompts. practice pa din kami. delayed pa din kami actually, but we're doing our best to be at par of his age

he's 3.3 yro sis. he's ahead in his motor skills, pero delayed kami sa speech... pumila kami last year sa dev pedia, and luckily may nag cancel ng january kaya we grab the slot. then after that, pila sa speech path for another evaluation and another pila for their sched for therapy...

re checklist - - hindi ko alam sis how to share it kasi super light powder xerox copy sya ng 2002 copy pa 'to. wala ako soft copy... and baka hindi rin kayanin sa scan since labo talaga ng kopya... pero subukan ko...

^ok thanks sis. my son naman just turned 2 and I can see nagdedevelop naman ang speech nya, he can now tell pag may gusto sya, kasi before he turned 2 puro senyas lang eh pag may gusto sya. pero hindi pa talaga sya nakakapag-converse ng as in sentences.

ganyan din ang anak ko sis.. he's very much comfortrable with gestures. hirap kami talaga na mag salita sya. eto yung mga naka tulong:
- kaya ko sya pinasok sa school para may kausap na bata, kasi walang bata samin. tsaka, mabagal mag salita dapat.
- lessen tv watching
- lahat ng nakikita namin mag sasalita yung adult sa kanya kahit hindi sumasagot. minsan sinasamahan ko ng gestures while talking.
- speech path and OT
ngayon sis, nakakapag phrases and sentence na kami. pero hirap pa din sya.

until now nasa b-p-n-m pa din kami. practice ng paulit ulit...

ang kinaganda this past few weeks, galing na nya mag imitate talaga. from tv, from music/songs, from adults and school...

^naku whole day din nga TV ng anak ko kaya din siguro tagal magsalita ng tuloy-tuloy, kung hindi cartoons nya ang palabas, yung mga TV shows na pinapanood namin whole day.

^ naku sis, big factor talaga ang tv sa speech ng bata. ngayon, limited lang talaga tv nya. and educational lang ang pwede. nakaka lusot lang kapag out of town or holiday. tsaka impt din na may kasama sya nanunuod ng tv para kinakausap pa din.

^oo nga daw eh, kaya i'm trying to lessen his TV time na, puro little einsteins & barney pa man din ang pinapanood. and wala ring ibang bata dito, sya lang.

I am unsure if I can now classify my son as delayed talker. He can say a few words and nakaka-imitate na sya ng words from us although there are usually missing letters like "please" sounds "pease." Pero major improvement from he was 17 months to now going 21 months. Parang may word spurt sya in the last few weeks.

When do you think is the best time to have a child assessed by a dev pedia and a speech pathologist and when can we say that his development is already alarming or he was just taking his time and eventually eh magsasalita din sya fluidly.

I was a delayed talker according to my mom, I began talking when I was about 2-1/2yrs old. My daughter is now 20mos but she doesn't talk that much yet. She only says dada, mama, lay (light), jump, yehey, eow (hello), tete (little sister tiffeny), tata (tita), lala (lolo and lola), yum yum (food)... bigla naman ako nag worry when I saw this thread. We always talk to her naman, she understands very well but late ang speech niya. She watches TV 2x a day (Mickey Mouse and she always waits for the I love you song of Barney), she loves music and she likes looking/scanning at books.

si hubby din may speech problem when he was a kid. accdg to my MIL, he stutters until his elem days... my brother has speech problem, and some of my cousins/uncle/aunts in my mom's side were also delayed in speech... feeling ko, ako din may speech problem. hehe...

ang importante talaga is intervention. isipin lang natin mga sis, kung effective ang speech therapy or any intervention for kids with problem in a specific area, what more to a kid with no problem diba...

Thanks sis mom.of.inchikoy! May kamahalan kasi dito ang specialist at hindi covered ng Medicare [textspeak!] excess kaya my son is only regularly checked by a child health nurse and a General Practitioner. Kelangan pa ng referral from a GP to be able to have an appointment with a pedia. Mabusisi.

Would you mind sharing your dev pedia's and speech therapist's contact info.  Literal ba talaga ang pag-pila as in ilang days bago makakuha ng appointment? Dito kasi it takes weeks to have an appointment. I was thinking na baka makapagpa-sched kami dyan on our short visit to Manila in Feb next year.

my son's dev pedia is dra avendano. she has clinic for evaluation in PCMC and st lukes. it will take months sometimes year to get a slot. november last year ako pumila, and initial sched sakin is march 2009. since may nag cancel ng january, kahit a day before ang text sakin ng secretary, we grab the opportunity kasi haba nga ng pila...

advise ko sis, try to call your preferred dev pedia or ask your relative to call them. baka may maibigay na slot para sainyo sa Feb, pag datin nyo... hth   

we just arrived from his speech, masaya ako and speech path ng son ko. kasi nakikipag cooperate yung son ko. and may improvement nga. sana tuloy tuloy na... ako din nag papaturo din sa speech path nya on how to do her technique, para magawa ko din dito sa bahay namin..

my son was a delayed talker and i had so much anxiety and fears over his development. It becomes difficult when people start asking "ilan taon na anak mo? bakit ganyan magsalita?" or "Ano raw? anong sinasabi nya?"

Matipid sya mag salita. At age 3 1/2, he would only ask for water or his needs pero walang kwento or stories unlike other kids na super diretso na magsalita. He would say "Mami water." That's about it. He nods when asked. Or in day he would make play sounds, but not talk at all.

At age 4, he tries to talk pero gets frustrated kasi yun sentences nya come out weird, kami lang ng Dad nya nakaka-intindi. Not his playmates, so he really gets frustrated and the other kids won't play with him. Yun speech nya may halong sounds like "Aaaaah" or "Mmmm" to fill in actions or words he's trying to describe. I could see it in his face he's really trying to explain his thoughts pero di niya ma articulate ng maayos.

sabi ng sis ko, because he's a boy he won't talk as fast or as early as girls do. maybe.

He's 5 now. Improved na speech nya, madaldal super. He overcame it, nabibigla na nga ako sa questions niya. We made it a point to talk to him lagi plus always ask him questions that will force him to answer beyond the usual yes or no. Like instead of asking, do you want water? we ask him, what would you like to drink? parang ganun. pero mas matiyaga Dad nya, he shows my son how to pronounce words with his mouth and lips. i guess he's the reason my son's speech is 'good' na for his age.

Eto na sinasabi niya ngayon "Kissy love makes ice tea bubble. I can taste it with my heart and brain!” haha.

Sis... San ka nakabased? Are you in Australia? Meron mga free speech pathologist check up and gives recommendation Ng free  sa early intervention program .

^sorry, was just using mobile Internet. Anyway, if you're based in Australia, there's a speech pathologist drop in clinic sa health center Ng suburb mo, madali [textspeak!] naman makakuha Ng sched and in my case mabilis naman din sia na chk and na test Ng specialist. Now we're just waiting for a call to enroll him sa intervention program. In the meantime while waiting, it better to let him join in a playgroup, meron din mga arranged program by govt. Ng mga playgroups, just check it out [textspeak!] sa community nio.
