ask ko lang po sa inyo.. do you also teach or converse in Tagalog with your children? Or you all exclusively prefer everyone to speak to them in English?

I speak to them in English and Tagalog.

Isa pa, mas madaling mag-transition from Tagalog to English than from English to Tagalog.

correct sis..my son  speak both english n tagalog ang to think na s US kami naka base..minsan nga tagalog sya talaga. his almost 3 yrs old .i dont see any problem kasi pag nag  school madali n sya matututo mag english..coz i dont want him to be like his dad na before any single tagalog word wala alam..so yun nung sa Pinas sya nag aral hirap sya to communicate and gain friends.. lesson hehe

yetzkie, he's turning 3 diba? ok naman ba ang speech development ng baby mo? was he a delayed talker? wala ka ba naeencounter dyan sa US na mga pinoy moms who discourage their children to speak in Tagalog?

ganyan din yung nephew ko, kaya ang ginawa namin kinakausap lagi, 3 na po siya. lahat ng sounds sa tv na imitate at memorize na, pero hindi words ang nasasabi at his age.

i think better go back to your pedia and ask them ano ba yung developmental delays you can/should expect... and which ones should get you concerned... mahirap kasi nagkaron ng medical conditon ang anak mo eh

but do continue talking to him lang... hold a running commentary always

Here's what I got from a brochure issued by Medical City's Center for Developmental Pediatrics on speech delay:

Q.
"Is early diagnosis and intervention really necessary?  Should we believe it when other people say "the child is only delayed; don't compare him to others; he will eventually catch up" or "boys are really more delayed," or he is just a later bloomer"?

A.
"When one talks about learning and brain development, one should realize that it follows a logical and step-wise process.  A child's brain must master a foundation for learning before it is able to move forward and learn other more complex things.  The foundation for learning is language.

The earlier the problems are detected, the earlier something can be done and the problem be overcome, or more serious learning conditions can be averted or prevented.  Any early problems in language, if not addressed or corrected, can lead to later learning problems and poor school performance.

There are many more services available now to address children's developmental and learning needs as compared to a decade ago.  Therefore, there is no more reason to just "wait and see" when you can DO SOMETHING NOW."

^sis, napa-assess na ba niya anak niya sa developmental pedia? if not pa-assess niya muna yung anak niya. the dev ped would also tell her din kung anong klaseng therapy her child needs.

my little man is now 1 year 5 months and the only word he can say is da-di (daddy) and he knows what/who daddy is.   he is super talkative, expressive and noisy, though, what he expresses are not words.  he says bagumbagum, badibadi, mampi, bambi, bading, papi and and so on.  the only "with sense" word he can utter is da-di (daddy).

he knows every family member and will point to them when asked where ate, tito, or tita is.  he also knows his toys, his surroundings, etc.  also, he would rather have books than watch TV.  if he finds the program interesting, he will focus on it.  if not, he will again go back to browsing his books.  he only appreciates high-5, yo gabba gabba, and  basketball games (he loves balls).  he adores dora but we had to cut it for obvious reasons, hehe..  he does not watch tv often. books and play time keep him busy.

my husband and i go to work so he is left with the kasambahays and his titos and titas.  they talk to him often and the interaction is okay. also, since i have a flexi time, we have one hour bonding/teaching time in the morning before i go to work and another round of bonding/teaching time in the evening.

it still bothers me why up to now, the only word he knows is da-di (daddy).
