aquacharly, maybe the reason why your mom is that way with you and your sisters is because that was also how your grandma was with her before?  maybe she didn't receive a single cent from her family too?

my family is not chinese but there are also times that i feel discriminated on by my own family.  i have 2 older brothers who are both still living with my parents in spite of the fact that they have families of their own na.  everything from their children's tuition fees down to their toothpicks are being paid for by my parents.  while me, the youngest have been living independently since i graduated, up until i got married 5 years ago.

while my husband and i are struggling to manage our finances, my brothers are having a hard time choosing what car they'll be buying next (c/o my parents pa rin).  when i asked my mom if she'll put me thru masters, she said i should pay my own way; while both my brothers (kahit na ilang beses na bumagsak) have enjoyed the privilege of getting their mbas for free.

anyway, what i'm driving at is that you're not the only daughter experiencing this just because we were not born male.  unfortunately, madami tayo.  and if i were in your shoes, i will definitely fight for what is rightfully mine regardless of whether i need the extra money or not.

my question to you naman is, how will you be with your own daughters?  do you have any ba?  :)

THANK YOU ALL --  yes, I am influenced by all your postings.  Maniwala kayo, I consider these all.   :)

Mrs. JACKSPARROW -- why are the SILs favored?  Kasi they all share the same surname.  My mom and the SILs are all mga Mrs. Onassis, LOL

My mom's own family is huge.
Her parents both came from Mainland China.
Prosperous naman the marriage.

But along the way, it is my mother who has the most .... the most in terms of  financial assets.
Accdg to her, she is the most beautiful too.. Ewan ko lang, sa tingin ko eh kasi she is the bunso kaya mas madami wrinkles noong iba.  LOL

So no judgment, talagang my mother takes pride in material possessions.
Eh it is well known that my mother and her family... the way they deal with other people depends kung mataba or payat ang wallet.
Weird, coz my grandfather was never like that.

Now, when my brothers get married ... kelangan it is the grandest weddings among the cousins.
Their houses must be the grandest, etc etc.  get the picture.

Now, the SILs must also be the most sikat or prosperous among the brides of the cousins.

What is soooo  uhmmm t@anga to me ... is that when it comes to children's achievements... she isn't on top of the heap.  Kung bibilangin sino mas madaming useless children... sya ang top of the heap.
Let us just say she is a person of different priorities.

Ang tingin nya, when a daughter marries and uses another surname of course ... iba ka na.  Hindi ka na "Onassis" ... it does not reflect on her anymore.  So row your own boat na.

So there,  it is all about "image" with this mother of ours.

Now, kaming mga sisters ... of course,  when you start with your marriage eh di build up your resources, build up your career, build up etc etc etc... so tipid to the max di ba.

If before life was easy, eh di nakaka experience ka nang sampal ng mundo, nang inconvenience, ng pagkawala nang mga capricho. ... etc.  Well, we just say: time to grow up and time to meet the Real World!

Ang nakakainis talaga.... na kimkim naming mga girls and our husbands... while we were struggling with our businesses or careers...

I have had to bail out some sisters kasi ganito...
Ma, pa utang ng working capital or pautang nang pang down sa car or bahay.  Utang ha.
Tapos maliwanag ang usapan:  repayment schedule ganito.
Matagal na ligawan, bago mag pautang.

Tapos pow!  1 fine day she calls up at 6AM.
Ang aga, kung minsa 5AM.
Nangogolekta!  Goodgrief!  My sisters would say ano?!
She will insist ah basta, kasi bibilhan ko nang new car si brother or SIL or travel kasi sila... no kidding!

Ako naman, I have these sidelines di ba.
O sige, import so many container vans of this item.
I mean if you estimate that 1 item will give you a profit for example of P100 ... it does not mean that if you import 1000 items eh ang profit eh 1000 x P100... kasi may mga goodbye!   But over-all kikita ka di ba

Ang ginawa sa akin... ka distribute ko pa lang sa retailers eh 30 days, may 60 ... collecting from me na her share of  the i! Eh hindi pa ako naka collect!

Eh wala pa noon Caller ID.
Grabe!  harassment... no kidding!  tawag ng tawag 5 or 6AM.
Nagalit na si hubby... and she told my husband ha!
Eh di buking 1 sideline of mine  (I feed my secret accounts too with my sidelines eh).
Ang haba ng sermon ni hubby... alam mo naman ugali ng mother mo with your sisters tapos pinapasok mo pa sa racket mo etc etc etc... at bakit may racket kang ganyan? etc etc etc     grrrrrrr

O eh di swapang di ba?
Talagang hindi tumigil hanggang I gave back her share of investment in full at kahit hindi pa ako naka collect at hindi ko pa alam extent of collection.. I had to pay her the profit in full.  Grrrr

But all the time everything as in everything katulad ng kela BYUTIJUNKIE -- hanggang toothpick ng brothers families eh paid by our parents.

Kainis pa si Mother  ha... pag me kailangan na helper ang brothers' families... she will go to the extent of pirating our helpers pa ha.   She offers a bigger salary.Grrrr
She tried that with me once, I pirated all her drivers... pati sa SIL kong isa.   Nagkataon kasi, we needed drivers for a flood control project ... round the clock... hahaha.   Kinausap nya ako, hindi ko pinansin.
My father had to swallow his pride and ask me to stop doing that at kung puede eh pabalikin at least 1 driver ng mother ko.  LOL

Kalokers talaga kami ano?

Kasi ang aga aga pa eh pag may problem or gustong pagawa or utos .. hello?!  bakit hindi istorbohin mga SILs or brothers?

Pero I tell you!  Ka galing mag text!
LOL

So there, I hope you have a better picture of our mother and our family dynamics.

Yang good life of our brothers and SILs may effect din yan sa relationships naming mga siblings.

So kayod, kayod, kayod eh di of course aasenso naman kami.
Atchaka talagang for me sabi ko nga sa kanya she is The Truth (as in, Ma, The Truth is stranger than Fiction -- I said that to her face hahahaha akala nya joke lang) -- kelangan walang daughter makakalampas sa kanya in any aspect.
Grabe ano?

There was a time, pag buy ko nang ganito for my house... naku hindi lalampas ang 1 week, she has more of whatever it is....    labo talaga, forever in competition.

Hindi talaga healthy kasi naging sports namin sisters mag bantay nang kapalpakan ng brothers, SIL and their kids...  Active sport, kasi active ang palpak eh. hehe    Yon naku we bring it up with our mother, who nagkakanda ugaga sa pagtatakip.  Kesyo hindi true, kesyo exaggerated.

The last 5 years, my father has had serious medical problems.  As in, major surgeries.

Asan na mga SIL na J Onassis?  Wala.
Once, ewan ko why... a brother made kwento... she was left alone with him and my Dad.  Tapos she just broke down and cried per our old Yaya.
She said daw:  All my daughters hate me.

I told my sisters, baka kaya she is holding on to all the money kahit na 50% is more than more than more than enough for her to spend.  Kasi yun ang currency nya for dealing with people she loves ... money di ba?  Eh kung may pera na my brothers?  Baka mabawasan ang pakisama sa kanya?

Eh itong Kabit nga ni Dead Brother and the  First Son (na illegitimate naman din)  eh  medyo nagpapalabas na nang tapang sa kanya.  Hay buhay.

And of course,  bakit nga ba share with daughters?

Thank you all for your patience!

Last Sunday, we had that Miting de Avance nga.

We did not expect the brothers to arrive, but oh they did.....   So on the surface, lahat kami magkakampi.

1 brother said he was tired of being controlled by my mother.  He has trust funds but never nya nahawakan the documents,  etc. etc. etc.  Basta my mother just gives him what he asks for.

I whispered to Achi... let us not be up front with our moves and thoughts kasi baka Trojan Horses mga brothers na yan ha.  hehe

Well, we all agreed everybody wants their legal share of our father's estate.  Except ngek!  sabi nga ng 1 brother -- except daw for me.
(Oh was my husband laughing!  Ako daw rocked the boat tapos ako ang hopia!)

Well, the brothers!  wow!  want their cash 100% now.  May sister same same.  Most sisters puede installment -  basta may cuentas claras.   And they all agreed that  -- my share goes to this Anti-Kangkungan Fund.  hay buhay. sige na nga.

The problem is, so that things do not go outside the family ... my mother has to give an accounting of everything.  Which she said in all her angry glory... nunca!

I said this is what will happen... if ma stalemate tayo kasi we cannot let her just sit on everything, which she wants, na mag antay lahat till kingdom come ... kasi everything is under her control....

   1.  That bank that froze accounts... remains that way.
   2.  We will have lawyers write other banks... so winter wonderland lahat kasi pati her accounts with other names... pa freeze namin.
   3.  We will be forced to go to court.
   4.  Because of nos. 1-3... mas malaki mapunta sa BIR.
   5.  Kamamatay na natin yang #3 coz in the Phils. justice grinds exceedingly slow...
   6.  Once we go to court,  we are not open to pakiusap anymore.  Lahat as in lahat will be counted.
   7.  Anybody who joins forces with her... bubulatlatin ko... so if you have assets beyond your earning capacity (sigurado yan with the brothers!) -- sige bulatlatan tayo kasi isama yan sa estate... palalabasin you just held it for safekeeping.

Of course, nagka guerra patani.
Kasi that is tantamount to telling the brothers...  downgrade your lifestyles kasi ma freeze your accounts.
May mga sisters din pala na some of us did not know eh their kids given trust funds eh como minors naka and/or sa father or mother namin.  Eh di pati yon sabit.

Masaya.  I tell you, what money can do!

Ako lang talaga walang sabit.  Thank you, God!

I said... you each have to think why you are going into this.   And if you an afford to ride the banca all the way.   We are not talking of the costs of riding the banca... but of the fortitude required for the trip.

Meron dyan.. I want the money!  Nothing wrong with that sabi ko.

Meron dyan ... kasama ako doon...  whether he liked me or not, whether he loved me or not, eh Compulsory Heir ako by accident of birth.  So there!

Naku, we went back and forth sa guerra patani.

Teka,  mga 60 cans of Pale Pilsen beer consumed... and much more Light Cokes.  Ako nga lang eh naka tapos ata ng 12 just for that Miting de Avance.  hay buhay.

"Benjamin"  -- hindi ba meaning of that name eh "the favored son"??  O etong si Benjo eh designated to talk to our Mother.
He was set to have lunch with her (well, he has lunch with her 5/7 nga)  --  and to tell her: Eto ang deadline for you to provide us with a complete inventory".

I do not want to think if she will deliver or not.
I tell the sisters... antayin nyo na lang.

Pero during that Miting de Avance.. nagulat sila kasi they were working with an estimate of the Cash & Other Liquid Assets.

Nagulat lahat.  Nag run down ako to support my estimate...
Kasi pag dating sa pera or investments... tsismosa ako and I file everything away....  Atchaka ako nga tinatanong lagi about placements, arrangements, investments, etc.

So I warned Benjamin.. you please tell her na tigilan na ang panloloko sa atin.  The inventory should be somewhere near my estimate.

Well, you can imagine   kashing! kashing! kashing!

LOL, kalokers talaga kami.

During the Miting de Avance,  kahit na may guerra patani eh may chismiss din kami.

Si First Son daw (Achi now calls him FB for 1st bastard).....   sige daw magkanda hirap daw mga kids namin studying hard.  Sya daw eh mayaman na.  And nobody daw among the cousins will be as rich as him.
Whaaaatttt?

Tapos, eto pa may Katrina H kami!
Eh como may kabit, ganito ganyan sa houses nila kadalasan... their kids have their own rooms in our parents' house.... so they move back and forth sa bahay nila, sa grandparents.

Si Old Yaya supervises cleaning of their rooms...  well, she always asserts her being the Pusa este Big Cat among the helpers there.
Nakita nya!  And turned over to Achi (pina deliver pa sa driver ni Mother!  hindi alam ni Mother yon ha) --  the pictures of KatH in the company of a half-naked male teen.  She was in a teeny weeny bikini top...

Of course, Achi  at that time, showed the photo to our Mother...  my father was gone by then.
Sabi... well, whatever she is up to... hwag nya dapat ginagawa dito sa house mo.
Ano ka ba, Mother,  hindi mo na supervise who goes into your house?  (May excuse kasi si old Yaya noon... she was in the province).

Sabi ni Achi this is not the time and place to embarass the father/our brother.

I said dapat sabihin ni Achi one day in private to the father.   In a way, nakakaawa ang mga bata eh..  Siguro sa gulo ng buhay nila, they cannot find their way at times.

Atchaka yang si First Son (FB! insist si Achi) eh sabi ko ... kung tutuusin, he is just the summary or combination of all the bad traits ng parents namin at ni brother at ng kabit nya.  Ganoon lang yan, do not take it personally.   hehe   Sabi ni Achi, talagang ilalaglag nya na ako sa Guadalupe Bridge.

Kakatawa ka talaga sis.  Sobrang martyr!  Pati sa mga kapatid mo!  Oh well, you don't need the money and the headache anyway.  Glad to know tumawa na lang your husband. It seems wala talagang loyalty mga kapatid mong lalaki.  They just want to get their hands on the money sooner.  By the way, how did your bro come up with the idea of a kangkungan fund from your share and how is the it going to be set up?

Ha!  You can already read into FB's statement sis.

If our Mother had her way,  she would "X" all SILs.

1 ex-SIL filed for an annulment.
Ganoon pala, we learned... intimate details embarassing for a 3rd Party to read are on that final document.. at the end of which nakalagay the Decision... andoon na rin how the properties are to be divided.

Unanimous kaming lahat, down to the pet Shih Tzu of our Mom.... that ex-SIL will not get anything anymore.  Kasi in short, "lugi" ang parents ko with that marriage... kasi nga nahatak ni ex-SIL half of the properties  and funds given to that brother.  Plus, until Forever -- kahit na manalo si ex-SIL nang super lotto in the US --  ALL their kids'  expenses eh charge to the brother (este in truth, charge to Mother  -- sya naman gumagastos down to their socks eh).

Doon sa annulment doc nabasa pa namin ex-SIL said:  It was hell living with MIL.  etc etc etc.. She is abnormally controlling and mean. etc etc
Oh, we had some laglag panty moments laughing our heads off while this sister who likes to sing would belt out:  Sino ang baliw? Or that song that goes... Sawi...    something like that.. hindi na namin ma rinig the words sa kakatawa!

This other SIL naman,  she is in Europe with a kid nga and a lover.   She is the 1 causing the greatest anxiety to our mother, aside from us.
Kasi the marriage was never annulled.
And she and the dead brother have no children.
Now, ito ang puedeng maging nightmare sa buhay ni FB and siblings and kabit.

Kasi per a lawyer,  a childless legally married couple -- the surviving spouse gets automatically 75% of the estate.  hehe   All the illegitimate eh magsisikan sa 25% balance.
Imagine!  My mother will have another "lugi" marriage on her balance sheet.  75% of that portion out of her control!

Hindi puedeng sabihin she abandoned him... etc. etc.
Kasi this is the SIL closest to us.
We always email each other... she forwards emails our dead brother when he was alive natural (or else, nagsitakot na si Achi sa multo!) ---  would send her.  Ang 1 that we sisters were all laughing over, that I remember:
Bro:  File ka nang annulment.  Come back here, I pay all expenses.  Say you do not want to live here in the Phils. eh kabuhayan ko andito.
SIL:  Ano?  Ako pa ang immature?  I do not know my duties as a wife?!

The other SIL naman just got sooo fed up (who wouldn't? kasi philanderer din brother na yon)   and left her kids, her tsinelas, her pet dog, her clothes etc etc  and disappeared in the US.  She calls her kids now and then.  Sad.
She called me up once to thank me for taking care of her daughter (yung atrevidang teenager na post ko about now and then).

Well, she has to wait for her husband/our brother to drop dead muna di ba bago sya maka get hold of funds and properties.

Ironically, it is this Kabit (vs SIL in Europe) -- actually, her 4 kids... na mas maliwanag may inheritance (their share bec. of our dead brother's claim to our father's estate and my Mother's generosity to them) kesa any 1 of us daughters.  kaaliw!

May trust fund si FB ha!
May accounts pa  Mother namin na he is the ka "and/or".
Buti pa sya ano. Ako nga eh McDo French Fries.  hay buhay.  LOL

When I initiated the rocking of the boat, MOONIE, talagang sincere ako I wanted to just establish a Kangkungan Fund.
Ewan ko pero I believe that sooner or later, our mother will be separated from her assets and funds by the brothers and their families.   Tapos, her herederos will kick her in the face and dump her in the kangkungan.

It took me a couple of days to be able to face her and say straight to her face:
Pag nasa kangkungan ka, hindi kita matitiis hindi tanggalin doon.
But because you very well know, si (my hubby) and I got to where we are now WITHOUT help from you or Dad ...(and several times, pinanggigilan nyo pa kami)   eh mahihiya ako to use our resources to get you out of the kangkungan.

So I said my legal share of the estate eh put in a separate account for her to use... AFTER naubos nya na her money and all.

Thinking about it now, MOONIE,  that sure was insulting to her.
Kasi in power sya all her life married life di ba.

And of course, powerful people do not think that what is up there comes down 1 day.
And then,  of course, masakit kahit na ba she can see it in FB and siblings and that Kabit now... that these herederos of hers do not love her.  (Minumura nga behind her back, in front of kahit sino ng isang sibling ni FB.  Minor pa lang ang batang yan ha. OMGrief!)

Then of course, it must have been distasteful for my Mom to hear me suggest that of all her children eh it will be me to get her out of the kangkungan.
Kasi ako nga yung anak na 99% of the time defies her or shoots her down, or makes her look less than I am...  (Kelangan kasi sya lagi more and bida vs her daughters.)

When I focus on her face... I am sure what goes through her mind is:  Naku, ano nanaman kaya issue nitong Espiritu de Contradiccion na contravida na ito?
For sure, if she could only whisk her wand and turn me into a kalabasa .. matagal na akong pina gawang Pumpkin Soup with bacon bits floating on top kay old Yaya).

Hindi na bale ano, MOONIE.
At least, hindi tumatakbo sa isip nya when I face her:  Magkano kaya utangin or hiritin nito sa akin ngayon?  LOL

Thank you, MOONIE, nakita mo my martyr side.  I am not being sarcastic ha.
Na appreciate ko kasi well....   sa siblings ko ako yung KIA (Know-It-All); atrevida; kapal mukha (but I do not take that against my Achi, LOL).
Sa mga ibang employees... ako si .... Hitler!
LOL, wala akong paki... basta do your work well and no overtime!

I told Achi... tayong 2 mag-usap fully.
Do not reveal everything to the sisters and brothers.
Never underestimate the enemy.
Malay mo di ba... ma bribe ni Mother some sisters, and the brothers.

but your mom's character is a revelation..ang laki ng family nyo. malamang kinaiinggitan ka kasi successful ka more than most of your siblings.

hindi lang kinaiinggitan sis. tipong "why bother pa if you have your own."  ganito nangyari sa amin sa father side.

My grandfather, mother side, is dominantly chinese, according to my mom, ayaw ni lolo sila (daughters) pag-aralin, hanggang housewife lang daw ang babae. But my lola, part filipino part spanish, fought tooth and nail, for her daughters to go to school.

Ayun, recently na ICU for a few days si Lolo, sino nagpadala ng Pera? mga daughters niya! (who are mostly residing out of the country, 2 of the daughters ang nagpursige makaalis ng bansa, sunod lang ang husband) 2 lang naman ang lalake na anak, pero both responsible naman, one being a very successful lawyer with a lot of big name clients, the other one resides in the US. nagbigay/nagpadala naman yung both sons ng share nila.

Just ask your lawyers about that.

aquacharly, wala ko masabi kakaiba talaga ang family mo... your brothers, walang loyalty ha, dun sila sa kung saan mas marami sila makukuha...you are right in your decision to not spill all your plans and moves sa brothers, everyone actually, because if some of them get bribed by your mother, iwan ka nila. in the end, i think, it will be a "showdown" between you and your mother, showdown because ang tigas ng ulo ni mother, parang hindi sha talaga mag bend over to give way to your requests..so you'll have no choice but to push through with your plan.

kaawa lang din your mother aquacharly kasi your brothers, after everything she has given them, kampi sa yo because there are things she does that they're sick and tired of... how heartbreaking for your mom di ba... but she should have seen it coming...

mabuti na din yan for her to realize na, ano ba to, wrong choice ako sa mga tinulungan ko at mas binigyan ng favor in life...

this is just the beginning aquacharly.. im praying for you and your family and hoping you'll have more than enough strength to go on with this fight and at the same time take care of your own family as well. Magkagulo gulo man the family-you-came-from, at least your own family should always be safe, well-taken care of and happy whatever happens.  :D
