Mga sis, which esl companies offer better pay, work flexibility, and incentives? - RJ, Bibo, 51Talk, HiTutor, Bizmates, Unhoop? THanks!

I have been working at Bizmates for 2 years now. In terms of flexibility, I'd say this company is the best in that area. You can have total control of your schedule. And unlike in RJ, you can cancel your classes without any deductions kung need mong mag-absent or may biglaang urgent matter. You can open and close your schedule as you please.

In terms of pay, I'm not sure about the office-based companies you mentioned.

And I would say na nakakabuhay talaga. I'm a single mom and I can completely support my child and even my parents. :)

hmmm... tanong ko lang sa mga nag "lipat-bahay" na... did you quit your current esl job while applying for another? okay bang pagsabayin ang 2 esl teaching jobs kahit na nakasaad sa contract na dapat exclusive lang? just wondering lang mga sis

Ako sis na experience ko yan! Active tutor ako ng both HiTutor and RareJob. At pinagsasabay ko talaga sila everyday. Like, if walang students sa kabila, mag o-open ako sa kabila. Haha. Hihi.

Conflict of interest yan eh so ayaw talaga ng lahat ng ESL companies. Uso kasi yung nag-i-spy. So if you do anything that will make them suspiscious of you, alanganin ka nun. If you can succeed in being discreet about it, then nasa sayo yan. Just make sure they won't find out.

^^ Wow! 160/hr sis! Ma laki2x nga and super like ko talaga ang system ng company nyo. Kaso nung sinabi mo na dapat business-oriented ka and all, medyo nag alanganin na ako. Hihi. At isa pa, Taiwanese company din yan diba? Ayoko talaga ng mga business topics eh. More on real English talaga ang bet ko, like sa grammar and yung practical English lang. Hihi.

You're welcome!

^^ Wow! 160/hr sis! Ma laki2x nga and super like ko talaga ang system ng company nyo. Kaso nung sinabi mo na dapat business-oriented ka and all, medyo nag alanganin na ako. Hihi. Oo malaki talaga. So that's 110 per class. :)

Well sa umpisa nakaka-intimidate talaga tsaka nakaka-kaba.

Dapat maturuan ang students how to speak naturally. Kasi kahit anong galing sa grammar pero ang weird naman ng sentence or combination of words and expressions, hindi parin ok. So iyon yung goal namin, not just to teach grammar, but how we can help them speak naturally. :)

@lovely32: ...but on second thought, parang maganda ang career pathing sa bizmate. Needed bang mag cam sa inyo sis?

Oo, need ng camera. Video classes kasi so it's a must. :)

Oo maganda nga. May career growth at madaming opportunities. Tapos ang mananagement laging hinihingi ang input namin on how we can improve the protocol and the materials.

Kung gusto mo namang i-keep yung RJ, much better siguro huwag mo nalang sabihin. Para safe. Mahirap na kasi baka hindi ka ma-entertain. Yung sa tax rate, 10% per cut off.

Anyway, yung sa tanong mo, wala kaming office-based or face-to-face classes. Lahat ng classes ay online.

Hi sisses. 4 years na ako nag RJ. true masaya talaga, pero unti-unti nakakadisappoint. For 4 years lagi akong fully booked. Kakabukas ko lang after a few minutes booked agad. Then from that day onwards lagi nang wala.
I just realised that (okay sa mga o.c sa spelling, sorry pero nasanay akong realise at hindi realize lol. ang weird kaya pag z), since they took off 10% of our taxes and hinayaan na rin nila na hindi UP graduates ang tutors. lahat na yata ng schools pwede. in other words dumami nang dumami ang tutor, pakonti naman nang pakonti yung students per tutor. the catch is, for every tutor 10% and kinakaltas. and to be quite honest ang binabayad alam ko ng mga students is far more than what the tutors know.

it's just so weird sometimes... i feel like they are hiding our slots to students sometimes.

sorry sa pag-rant hehe xD kasi di ba, napakafishy nung biglang kinabukasan, very abruptly walang students, na dati consistently fully booked naman. tinanong ko nga kung nasa partial-hiding punishment ako pero hindi naman. pati ratings ko okay. i don't know what they did precisely. pati yung dati kong mga regular students bigla ring nawala. nang sabay sabay? weird...

^ parehas kayo ng Macbook ko. Realise din spelling nya. Naka US Keyboard ako lol.

i heard nga before 120 per hour ang starting. and then 90 per hour na lang in 2011 ata.
nakakaloka lang sila, hirap kaya gumising ng maaga just to check if you're booked. then wala pala. i don't know sis, pero talagang consistently  booked ang slots ko for so many years. tapos sometime in may biglang may one day na wala talaga. i found that very strange. then sabi naman ng isa kong student without me asking, "why can't i find you in RJ's website?" may ganong effect? Pero i guess it began when they changed the setting of the website.

one month na akong hindi full, i researched on bizmate i'd probably go there na lang. 160 per hour, so in 5 hours a day, seven days a week, you'll get more than 22,000 php, which RJ never ever gave in my past 4 years. and you're right, RJ is not super-evil naman but we should get what we deserve. plus nakakabarok na rin mag english kasi ang mga tinuturuan mo kailangan laging simple english lang. at least if you're teaching business english mas sophisticated. training na rin sa sarili and at the same time pwede na maapply yung course ko lol

i recall very strict pa nga sila na UP grads lang. until pumayag na na la salle. ateneo. etc. kahit ata ama or rizal university (kung may ganun mang university... idk xD) okay na.

mautak rin sila in fairness. mas maraming teacher, mas maraming student, mas maraming kakaltasan sa tax and then ang laki ng porsyento nila. skype, electricity, internet bill, sa atin. sucks big time

and to be quite honest ang binabayad alam ko ng mga students is far more than what the tutors know.

I am not sure if you are aware, but my Japanese boss told me na 8,000 yen per 30 sessions ang binabayad ng mga students sa RJ. He said that it's actually quite cheap and is considered to be one of the most affordable online schools out there. That's a big difference. So I guess that clearly explains why the pay is like that sa kanila. :)

I understand why you feel that way. Sa totoo lang may mga friends ako na nanggaling na sa RJ and they are all expressing the same sentiments to me. Good for them kasi wala na sila dyan.

If you don't mind me sharing my opinion, there's a possibility na tama yung hinala mo. It's not right for the company to go such measures para lang makapgdistribute ng classes para sa iba. :)

I agree, it could be lesser evil, but of course, there are far more better companies than that.
Why let yourself settle for anything less? I don't mean to interfere or meddle with your decisions, ang sa akin lang, why let yourself suffer from being unhappy and dissatisfied. Sa totoo lang nakakarelate ako kasi that's exactly how I felt when I used to work for office-based Korean companies. And then one day I just had enough of it and decided to take another path. I never regretted that decision kasi it brought me to a company where I'm happy and truly satisfied. :)

I hope you don't mind me giving a comment about this. It just stirred up an emotion within me.
I understand hindi talaga ok ang system sa company na yan, but ask yourself, is it really ok to take out it out on the students? I mean, the company is to be blamed. Ang mga students, they are totally clueless kung ano ang nangyayari sa loob ng company. They are just there to learn with the price they could afford. We can't blame the students for getting the most of what they can within only their means. But they obviously did nothing to deserve that kind of treatment. Unless bastos yung student, I can definitely understand.

As a teacher, I believe that if someone really has the passion for this kind job, that person will do his or her best to help the student. We may not be the formal, classroom-type of teachers, but at the end of the day, we still are teachers. I have no intention na manermon, pero I have been long enough in this industry to know exactly I am talking about. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. Just my two cents. :)

I-clarify ko lang po yan. Per booking po ang payment sa amin. So meaning hahatiin yung per hour rate. Nasa 110 per class ang rate ko ngayon which is by far the highgest. Many don't believe me when I say that I earn 20-23k per cut off. I can earn about 40k a month.

In my case, if I decide to work for 3 hours may 600 nako, which others earn in 8 hours. convenient diba?

Like in my case, I work from 5pm up to 12mn. At puno ang sched ko, as in. Ihi lang ang pahinga. haha! But when you get your pay, it's all worth it naman diba?

Everything takes time. If you are patient enough, you'll get to that point naman. :)

So kahit teaching ang industry na pinili mo, you can still utilize yung pinag aralan mo. :)

-Kaya nga sis. lol. So doing the math roughly 250 php per class yun. tapos ang bayad lang sa amin 50 php. 1/5 lang. the remaining 80% goes to them. plus the tax pa. I mean I do get it, they need to pay their staff, etc. Pero still ang work ay nasa atin. In fact we'd rather just advertise our service privately, mas malaki pa kita. I just thought of that, why not lol

2. "As a teacher, I believe that if someone really has the passion for this kind job, that person will do his or her best to help the student. Well that's what we are doing precisely. I've been teaching online for 4 years. Just a few days ago the wife of my student heard me conduct a lesson. The next day the student booked me again--this time I was surprised to find out I'd be teaching his wife instead. His wife told me she likes me "a lot", and keeps saying it. again and again, idk. lol. Not really trying to boast or what, but most of my students will always tell it to me. That I'm their favourite, even the children. So natotouch din ako. We often extend pa nga the time. I do not notice time flying anyway, because I enjoy what I do. Pero lately, gaya nga ng nasabi ko, biglang kinuha nila nga students ko for some strange reason I can't pinpoint. Not because we're ranting here means we're all after the money and WE too do know what we're talking about.

3. "I-clarify ko lang po yan. Per booking po ang payment sa amin. So meaning hahatiin yung per hour rate. I'm just comparing RJ and Bizmate in terms of pay. Hookay?? lol

When I started in RJ actually fully booked kaagad. That went on for 4 years, until nga yung fishy incident. I have a friend who's working in RJ too and would always ask me how to get fully booked. Idk. Probably nasa profile, then rating ng mga students afterwards.

Anyway,  thanks for sharing pa rin.

Sino na yung nag wo-work sa Bibo? I'm planning to transfer pero baka mas mababa yung rate ko kaysa sa ngayon. RareJob ako ngayon eh. But the company seems to be demotivating na.

Hi. What do you mean po na demotivating na? Kaka-start ko pa lang po sa RareJob. But I'm still trying pa sa ibang company. Like Bizmates, since 160/hour and maganda daw ang materials nila like the book lesson.

Good day mga sis!

RJ and Bizmates are really trending here...And based on posts, I think if you want better pay and sophisticated materials, mag BIzmates ka. You don't get all of that in RJ pero super laid back yung platform nila kasi hindi sila strict sa video and all. Tax deductions are twice as much in Bizmates (20%). RJ's 40-60/class rate is demotivating, while Bizmate's 80/class rate's super inspiring. And based on experience, it takes quite a while to earn loyal students. So higher pay really takes a LOT OF TIME, HARDWORK and PATIENCE for both RJ and Bizmates.

Sometime we wonder, ano ba talaga ang purpose natin for being ESL tutors? Is it the pay? the flexi sched? the learning progress of students? or your own personal/career growth? I've been demotivated too, kasi nga, mababa ang pay sa RJ at walang venue for better positions, pero at the end of the day, it makes me smile pa rin knowing that students have learned something.

For now, I'm evaluating my REAL aims. I'm crossing my fingers for whatever decision I may make...hopefully I won't regret anything in the process...  8)
