Hi del, I went to Skillbuilders prior to taking my son to Embrace, also in taft. I didn't like the place eh. i don't know about their therapists though kasi hindi na kami bumalik dun. they have no SPs for now, or kung meron man, isa lang ata.

You can do an ocular first, baka naman magustuhan mo..

Sis Chili1113, do the SPs or OTs determine how many hours or sessions in a week the kids should have?

kasi we just underwent the second speech session (weekly lang kami) and super walang improvement sa anak ko. he pretends to be asleep, tumatayo at he ignores the therapist completely. feeling ko din, parang ayaw nya sa therapist nya eh. girl kasi and she's not that lively. parang she doesn't know how to get the kiliti of my son. so parang nabobored ang anak ko. okay lang kaya to request for another ST? gusto ko sana mag try ng male na ST. di naman bastos or what? i don't want to be rude kasi dun sa current ST ng anak ko.

my husband and I are opting to stop ST muna and go ahead with OT. kasi at home, super responsive na ang anak ko. he can say 6 to 7 words straight na.. so nakakabuo na talaga sya ng sentence. he knows the concept of yes and no na. dati kasi puro no lang.

actually sa skill builders kami nagpapaOT for 2weeks na..pero now ko lang talaga nkikita na crowded cla..gusto ko sana lumipat ng center, pero infairness magaling ang OT ng son ko, napapasunod nya and all.

ok lang kaya na ipull out ko son ko sa kanila? hndi nman kaya nakakaoffend yun? hmm..

btw, where is Embrace located?

Sis, in my case it is the dev ped who suggested the # of times per week of OT and speech. Of course the OT and SP have their own recommendations as to the # of hours per week of therapy. It just so happens that the recommended hours jived with what Dr. Dimalanta said. As for Dr. Benitez, she only recommended 1x/week... however, I followed what Dr. D. and the OT recommended bec I do believe in a more intensive especially under age 5. I am making up for lost time since we only started therapy at 3 1/2 yrs old na.

Sis, dont worry it takes time talaga. My son's improvements happened steadily little by little over the course of months. Don't feel discouraged if you do not see the improvements right away. However, if your child cannot sit through the Speech session, parang sayang the money lang. Maybe better to do OT first until he can sit through the entire speech session. Consult nalang sis with your OT and SP and see what they recommend. =)

^kasi when i asked the SP, she told me that it would be much better kung sabay daw... i wondered kasi baka nasabi lang nya yun kasi baka mawalan sya ng commission or something pag nag stop kami ng speech for OT.

pero we decided na talaga to go ahead with the OT and stop with ST..

same ang sabi ng dev ped and OT ng son ko..dapat muna OT first for 4-6mons depende sa progress ng bata then pag pasado na behavior and all, and kaya na umupo for 15-30mins chaka irerecommend for SP..

mga sis from QC area, has any of you tried PCMC (Philippine Childrens Medical Center)? i was of the fortunate pt interns who rotated under this center during my college days and i can definitely attest that super tedious ang training ng pt's and ot's dito. although maliit ang facility and it's not a high class, magagaling ang mga therapists nila.

It's better talaga to go with OT first before SP because the child needs the discipline to be able to sit on his own. SP is medyo "boring" compared to OT where they do more activities. In my son's case, we had OT for 6 months before we were decked for SP.
Also, the progress cannot be seen immediately. We should be in for the long haul. My son started saying words and imitating because of school. After a year of OT, speech therapy and school, we have made a lot progress. Although I'm sure may delays pa din, I'm glad we started early with intervention.

my son started going to QLD (Quality Life Discoveries) last Friday lang and pretty much happy naman ako. Ganda ng facilities (medyo sikip lang sa parking) super nice ng staff lalo na ang teacher Keng (OT) niya. Very attentive na OT tapos malambing sa bata kaya mabilis niya napapasunod.

Ang concern ko lang is scheduling. Wed and Fri kc sessions niya and nalalayuan ako sa interval ng Fri to Wed the following week. Kasi kami dati sa centers na na-assign ako e yung interval per session dapat hindi ganun kalayo para ma establish yung engram formation/learning ng mga bata. Kaso Wed and Fri lang ang schedule ni Teacher Keng sa QLD. Sayang. Plan ko ipasok siya sa ibang center (kahit sa government based) OT Center for Mondays niya.

Meron ba kayong alam mga sis?

Wow!! I am so happy today. My son just got accepted in Xavier. He reallly has blossomed so much since we started therapy. I don't think he wouldnt have gotten in if not for the great improvement since he started his therapies. These are the moments that make me know I am doing it right and also know that every cent I invest at therapy is worth it!! Just wanted to share

my son started his therapy with fear for elevators and anything that has to do with balance (that was according to his OT).

now, after 3 months, he rides the elevator with ease and guess what, had the time of his life trying out all the rides in Star City just last weekend. mag-isa pa ha! we're so happy, his yaya is so proud of him, too.
