Hi sisses - may nakapagtry na ba ng radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism? 
How was your experience? Any side effects? Any issues conceiving after 6-12 months?

The doctor recommended to undergo RAI treatment kasi. I just started taking oral meds last month methimazole (tapdin) and inderal (propranolol). She increased the frequency to 3x a day.

Ako din kase sa ngayon mejo noticeable na yung bukol sa leeg ko. Nag stop kase ako ng gamot. magpapalit kase ako ng endo.. At lage din ako nag-thythyroid storm.. Hay. By d way sis, sino pala endo mo and how much ang PF nya? Thanks sis!

had my RAI for hyperthyroidism back in 2001. I remember the days after my RAI, grabe init na init ako lagi.  The few days after din, pina-isolate ng doctor yung mga gamit ko sa house (particularly for eating i.e. utensils, plate, cup, etc). 

did your doctor advise you that after RAI, you'll have a high chance of becoming hypothyroid?  I read that hypothyroidism is a common side effect of RAI.   In my case, about 3-4 yrs after my RAI, naging hypothyroid na ko.  Same case for all my 3 siblings.  Lahat kami we are on thyroid hormone maintenance now

sa tagal ko nang di nakapag pa consult eh nakalimutan ko na name nya ..
pero kasi sa philippine general hospital lang ako nagpapa check up
kasi nakuha ko yun hyper thyrodism ko after ko manganak eh nanotice sya mga
few months after i gave birth ..

ano ba yung hypo ?
kasi alma ko ang hypo eh yung papasok naman ang bukol
ang hyper eh palabas ..

Namention din yung hypothyroid possibility.

After RAI how was it? Nagnormalize na ba mga tests?
Ilan days ang isolation? 1 week nga ba?
3 days kasi yung uptake scan eh.

^sis, cant remember exactly, pero definitely less than 1 week yung isolation.  nung pinabalik ako for follow up, normal na yung tests ko.  I think about 1 month after yun? (not so sure since more than 10 yrs ago na yun).  outpatient nga lang pala ako.  yung sister ko kasi, pinaconfine pa for 1 night.

^sis, after nung follow up checkup ko about a month after RAI, normal na blood tests ko, and I started to feel better, hindi na ko bumalik uli ng doc.  kala ok na yun.  wala naman sinabi yung doc about maintenance meds.  I had no maintenance meds, check up for the next 3-4 yrs.  then in 2004/2005, dun na nagstart lumabas symptoms ng hypothyroid kaya I finally went to the doc (diff doc na 'to, not the one who did the RAI), and ang diagnosis is hypothyroid na nga ako.  so since then I'm on maintenance med for hypothyroid

sis, ako nung hyper ako, I was so thin.  I think mabilis bagsak ng weight ko at that time.  I remember in 1 meeting sa office, our CEO was so shocked to see me looking so thin and had to ask if I was sick (at that time I didn't know yet na hypo ako). 

years later, nung naghypo na ko, ayun ang taba ko naman.  until now, kahit controlled na yung pagiging hypo ko, it is still a struggle to maintain my weight

Siguro 3 years nako mataba. Yung timbang ko before is nagrerange lang ng 48-50 kgs. Ngayon, 61 kgs na naman. Nag 1 month ako before na no rice, fruits, veggies, meat halos kinakain ko pero nabawasan man ako e, 2 kgs lang. bat kaya ganun? dahil kaya sa thyroid problem ko? gr. 3 pa ng madiagnose na me goiter ako e kaso hindi ako regular nachecheck up. yung eyes ko naapektuhan na din

Hi mga ka GT concern lang po ako sa wife ko kasi na diagnose siya na may Hyperthyroid after giving birth, at first 3 months hindi namin napasansin yung leeg niya then 6 nahalata ng MIL ko na medyo malakas yung tremor nya sa binti kahit nakatayo na. Kaya na bothered ako kaya kahapon pumunta kami sa MMC to check her thyroid sa endo ang binigay na muna niyang gamot para sa palpitate ng heart niya at nag pa laboratory din kami. Totoo po ba na nakakasira ng liver yung tapdin? Kasi yun daw ibibigay sa kanya kung ok yung CBC at Thyrioid test, sana hindi sya allergic sa gamot.

Nakaka stress isipin na may ganitong sakit asawa ko nagbackread na ako dito. Dami kong nalaman dito sa forum na ito at salamat na din sa mga nagshare ng experience nila sa sakit na ito.

Bale after ilang years lumabas symptoms ng hypo mo sis? 3 or 4 years ba? Ano yung maintenance med mo?hindi ba hormones tinatake mo?

I think  mga 4 yrs  after RAI when I finally took note of the symptoms (sluggish, weight gain, gas, constipation).  that was 10 yrs ago to today.  I'm taking thyrax 150mcg.  it's a thyroid hormone.  mostly controlled na yung hypothyroidism ko, there are times na I'm a bit higher than the normal pero hindi na inaadjust ng doctor ko yung dosage.

Ah bale sis di ka pala niya binigyan ng maintenance med after few months ng rai mo? Ah thanks ha. Nawala na worries ko. July kasi ako nag undergo ng rai, nung october, last check up ko ok na yung lab test ko. Then binigyan niya ko med to be taken this december 15 and for life time na rin. Then magkikita na kami ng endo ko by april pa or kung may iba pako maramdaman.

Ah minsan tumataas pero parang hyper ba ulit? Nag weweight gain ka pa rin sis?thanks ha.

^sis, I mean higher than normal TSH, so bale hypo.  For the past 3 years, I managed to actually lose weight. Yey!  From record breaking 61kg, I'm now  55kg.  Not really there yet, pero at least malapit na sa pre-hypo weight ko.  Pero I really have to work on losing weight....

Underwent RAI na last week for hyperthyroidism.

Thanks for sharing all your stories. 
I have a follow up check up next week with my endo and nuclear med doctor next month.


^sis artegirl galing mo! Nag special diet ka ba? Mukhang eto ang challenge sa akin. How to maintain yung weight dahil may possibility na may Hypo ako. Sarap ko pa naman kumain. Hehe

NEED YOUR HELP po please mga sis.....
galing ako kanina kay Dra.Gia Wassmer, 1st time ko magpa check up sakanya sabe nya for THYROIDECTOMY na daw ako kase malaki na daw masyado ang bukol sa leeg ko. May alam po ba kayo na murang hospital para sa Thyroidectomy? Wala po akong work now kase may 2 babies ako na inalagaan at wala akong sariling pera talaga as of now.. umaasa lang ako sa ka-live in partner ko na ama ng 2 babies ko. Hay mga sis iyak ako ng iyak hanggang ngayon..... bakit ngayon pa ko nagkasakit kung kelan wala akong work at sobrang bata ko pa... Sana po may makapag sabe sakin kung saan may murang surgery ng Thyroidectomy dito po sa Metro Manila. Thank you very much mga ka-GT! God bless us all!
