ALL ABOUT PACIFIER ("Binky")

I never believed before that pacifiers are a must for babies.  My eldest son never experienced using pacifiers and he didnt thumb suck for long when he was a baby.  I had this notion that pacifiers will make the baby "sungal" (protruding teeth, or whatever you call it in english, hehe!). Guess I was wrong...

I tried using binky for my MJ when he was a month old, coz I notice that he has this unending urge to suck even when he is sleeping, and everytime my mom sees it she interprets it that the baby needs milk, the ending would be burping big time!

I was amazed by how the pacifier "calm" my MJ.  He sleeps better and longer at night with the binky on his mouth and therefore giving me more time to sleep as well, unlike before we use binkies, my max sleep would be 1 hour.  Now I know why it is called "pacifiers"!  I heard some friends said long ago, "kapag nag pacifier daw mabait ang bata" yun pala kasi they do not cry a lot kaya they say they're mabait.

Would love to discuss the pro's and con's and what to expect, what to watch out, What's the recommended brand that has been tried and tested.... etc...

Also, how often do we need to change it, is it the same as nipple, like every 3 months? Does it really cause malformation of teeth?

I wanted my baby amber to use it kasi pag afternoon sandali lang sya sleep... and hirap pa ko patulugin... pero ayaw nya talaga ng pacifier nya... sayang 2 pa naman ang binili ko...

My baby's a user since day 5. Before he's superrr addcted to it. As in he can't sleep without his binky, pero now that he's nearing 5 months medyo ayaw na nya.

He's using Playtex binky, btw. Yung latex.

Good for you sis daruelle. My baby don't like dummy, I don't know why. Maybe he's not used to it. I bought avent pa naman.

my baby used his pacifier when he was just a week old kasi na oover feed siya specially at night so we tried to put a pacifier then a few minutes after, makakatulog na siya but when he reached a month old, I noticed ayaw na niya yung pacifier niya, whenever i put it on his mouth, he'll spit it out. Naisip ko baka ayaw niya yung contour ng pacifier niya so from avent NB pacifier, we shifted him to playtex latex binky.. ayun, ganun din ang nangyari, ayaw niya talaga so yung 6 pacifiers niya nakatambak lang. Sayang!

Pigeon NB size lang gamit nya till now, kasi when i bought it I do not know kung gusto nya, kaya I did not buy Avent.  Then at first ayaw nya rin, he spit it out with cry cry pa, pero pinagtyagaan ko, unti unti gusto na nya.

Then he turned 3 months sabi ko maliit na siguro yung binky ng Pigeon, i bought avent na pang 3 months, asus pagdating ko sa bahay ng binuksan ko ang laki pala ng binky ng avent, hahaha! I tried to put it on his mouth, naduwal at naduling pa parang nagulat LOLZ!

my son uses pacifiers, type nya yung pigeon and fave nya yung orthodontic type na nabili ko sa mothercare.my son has 8 teeth na and wala namang malformation.we use it talaga as pampatulog or kung at times na medyo bad mood sya.as for the ear infection issue,never nagkaron si baby.siguro nasa paggamit at pagmaintain naman ang magging efficiency ng pacifier.anyways there will come a time that babies will naturally lose their fixation with it.

Ang dami naming kaaway ni hubby in using one.  But I really felt the urge to give one to my 1mo old 'cause he seems to sucking all the time. My sister in law is an orthodontists, sabi nga nya it causes to potrude the teeth although I know they mean the best sometimes you have to turn a deaf ear.  We bought the translucent NB pacifiers from avent,, sabi orthodontic daw un and "collapsible and symmetrical teat that respects the natural development of baby’s palate, teeth and gums " according sa hehe..but it really soothes my little one and he sleeps longer through the night.

Sabi ko naman aalisin ko rin ang soothers pag 6mos. old na sya. don't want it to be a hard habit to break.

ang baby ko minsan or most of the time ito nakakatulong sa kanya matulog. pang pacify lang talaga. iba kasi kahit nag lalaro yung baby lalagyan pa. baby ko niluluwa pag ayaw nya na. o kinakagat kagat kun naglalaro sya. ngayon im trying to wean her. dapat 6 months di na sya dependent don.

^^^ good to know na walang naging issue sa teething ng baby mo sis. il switch to pigeon siguro. hershey's using avent anlaki talaga 3-6 months. parang di kasya sa month ng anak ko.

We bought my daughter the Avent pacifiers when she was a few months old, kasi we wanted to discourage thumbsucking.  Mas madali daw i-wean ang baby from pacifiers.  But her Lola Pedia also advised against pacifiers, kausapin na lang daw ng kausapin ang babies rather than have them depend on pacifiers.  Well, my daughter never took to her pacifiers.  Thumb sucker sya until now.  She's already 19 months-old.

i started giving my daughter the binky when she was between 3-4 mos old. we wanted to establish kasi a routine with regards her feeding kaya binky ang bigay namin pag kakadede nya lang tapos parang nagsusuck ng hands.ngayon at almost 8 weeks, paminsan minsan bigay ko pa din yung binky, mahilig kasi sya isubo ang kamay kaya binky na lang instead of hand nya isuck nya=) pero may mga times na hindi ko binibigay kahit na parang iiyak na sya at ayaw matulog, ayaw ko din naman maging dependent sya sa binky

i read somewhere that pacifiers delay speech and causes ear infection.

so, pacifier is a no no for me.

in my case, helpful naman un pacifier. super lakas kasi sa milk ng baby ko to the point na masakit na tummy nya but still wants to drink more to soothe herself. so pag pang sooth lang, i let her have the pacifier. pero she knows that there's no milk from it. so when she's hungty, ayaw nya okay lang naman sa pedia nya.

ayaw ng baby ko ang binky, siguro wala kasing lasa. hehe. ang ginagawa nyang soother now is my breast, problema i'll be back na sa work, so mukhang balik binky sya.

I used pacifier to my baby.. He's calm and na rerelax pag may pacifier.. But I've read that Dummy use linked to ear infection.. here's the link.. try to read it.. though i've read it i still used pacifier kay baby helpful kasi sakin pacifier eh..
