Dextroscoliosis (scoliosis)
« on: July 28, 2008, 02:41:26 pm »
I've had an Xray recently and was found to have dextroscoliosis. The curve of my spine is to the right. I doubt that I got it from a wrong posture since I stand straight most of the time, and even people close to me were surprised I have one. Please enlighten me and the rest how I got one.

Is there a medication to take to treat this? Or kind of exercise? Please, please, help.

Thanks so much!

I have it also. I believe from wrong posture yung saken kasi even when I was still a kid madalas sumakit likod ko.

It depends naman up to what degree yung curvature. I think radiologists measure that. Dapat yata is less than 20 degrees. Di ko lang sure kasi matagal na the last time na nagconsult ako sa doctor and di ko na maremember exact details. Lesser degree naman yung saken tapos pain reliever lang binigay. Tapos guide on proper posture. Bawal magbuhat ng mabigat.

Dun sa mga extreme cases is yung pagsuot ng braces or minsan straps yata tawag dun.

i also have dextroscoliosis pero hindi ko alam kung ilang degrees. sabi ng sister ko na PT kailangan talaga maging maingat sa pagbubuhat like pag may pinupulot ka sa floor dapat naka-bend ang knees. Saka when sleeping, it's either parehong straight ang legs mo or parehong naka-bend. I-observe pag yung isa naka-stretch at yung isa naka-bend - may strain sa likod natin.

Sis I think your posture played a factor how you got your scoliosis. But as far as I can remember scoliosis roots from malalignment of your spine. If the position of your spine is extremely affected, orthosurgeons ( bone doctors ) will suggest surgery but if the curvature of your spine is minimal your doctor will suggest PT treatment which will include a series of exercises, braces( to maintain the correct position of your spine ) and patient education ( stuff you can do at home to help like exercise, body positioning for your daily activities and others )I suggest you ask your doctor how you can manage this.

i have this too. lalo nagkarun ng curve nun nagbuntis ako kasi ang bigat. pero sabi naman ng PT mild lang. may rehab for this kung mild lang curvature ng spine.

i have this, too, pero mild curvature lang. i`ve undergone rehab, nevertheless. covered ng hmo 12 sessions. then they`ll teach a series of exercise para ma-lessen ang pain.

count me in sisses. mine's dextroscoliosis of the thoracic spine (chest part), around freakin' 20 degrees. oh well...

from Wikipedia entry on Scoliosis, here are the signs/symptoms:
    * Uneven musculature on one side of the spine
    * A rib "hump" and/or a prominent shoulder blade, caused by rotation of the ribcage in thoracic scoliosis
    * Uneven hip, rib cage, and shoulder levels
    * Asymmetric size or location of breast in females
    * Unequal distance between arms and body
    * Slow nerve action (in some cases)

sis honey_iya, kung gsuto mo, you may perfom the Adam's Bend Test, then ask anotehr person to look at your back if it is uneven or there is a presence of a hump.

here's the link: http://www.uptodate.com/online/content/image.do?imageKey=pedi_pix/adams_fo.htm&title=Adams%20forward%20bend%20test

HTH ;)

Sis backpain maybe a symptom since some of your muscles are stretch in an abnormal fashion. But the best way to detect this is thru xray...you should see a doctor to determine if you have one. Some scoliosis are quite visible even to the untrained eye, especially if the extent of the curvature is in the higher degree

This is quite common too with tall & slender women, in class our professor even said that its a common condition among beautiful women especially models. My classmates before even joked they have scoliosis  ;D

Orthopedic doctor specializes on the bones, you can try that. There's also a Physiatrist, this doctor specializes on Physical Rehabilation.

you're welcome! ;) better consult an orthopedic. he'll make you do the Adam's bend forward test. then you'll prolly have a spinal x-ray done to confirm the presence of the curvature.

I was diagnosed with mild scoliosis way back in highschool. It was caused by my sudden growth spurt, biglang tangkad in short. My spine didn't have time to properly align because of this. To prevent my scoliosis from becoming worse, the doctors from Phil. Orthopedic cautioned me not to stay in one position for long periods of time that would strain my back i.e. standing or sitting. They also taught me a set of exercise that I have to do for the rest of my life. So far, so good.   :)
