i used to have this plastic thing (i think lalagyan ng fruits or something) its rectangular and if i turn it upside down prang mini-table sya ng laptop but the bottom doesnt heat or anything kasi hindi covered.it was very efficient altho i cant use it when im in a wifi place (i dont bring it around..sa bahay lang).

i have this dv6000 but the motherboard lasted only for only 8months.. i had the same case with several other who have complained in the service center

same thing happened with my dv6500.  had to send it to the hp service center.  fixed everything for free.  took 3 weeks tho, and the HD had to be reformatted.  lost all my stuff.

^mine too.. in accounting period motherboard will last for more than 3years.. but mine lasted for 8months.. though they fixed everything for free my stuff had lost and such a waste of time..

Oh my, parang ayaw ko na bumili ng hp laptop.  I'm thinking of buying hpdv3000 series..yung 13.3" nila.

well as i said sometimes the problem is software and not hardware related. take for example my lenovo. i just inserted a flash drive and kapoof! all my files were wiped out. windows can't boot properly and i had to change my whole drive.

i lot of people i know are considering HP / compaq lappys as their last resort.  More of them would prefer toshiba like what i have (portege) because its durable. 

We call HP laptops "plantsa"

^talaga..am planning to buy mac pa naman....we have DELL  lappy din pansin ko hindi sha madaling mag init unlike Hp at matibay sha. thought Mac is not madaling mag init..

see the heat emitted by any computers depends on the extent of your use. for example, you have IE, photoshop, office open all at the same time then your processor will have to do its thing.. crunching processes. it also depends on your environment din. if you have insufficient ventilation, that adds up to the heating. its the same problem AMD faced a few years back. the more processes it handles the more hot it gets. but with proper ventilation or cooling system, AMDs are much more faster than intel processors. the problem with any laptop is that they haven't anticipated perhaps the extent of the design architecture of dual cores that is why maybe they are putting in the wrong hardware for the right reason. im not pro or anti HP coz for me they're all the same. they are all made in china (no disrespect) even macs and perhaps from the same sub-contractor. most probably they share the same design inside. who knows..

^That's true.  I have a friend who told me that brands (like dell / toshiba / hP / etc) actually have the same manufacturers.  She's actually one of the girltalkers.  One of the plants in some laguna technosites actually produce different brands of laptops.  The only difference is the specifications.  Which means, each brand would give the specifications and the plant would just assemble the laptops according the the specs.  So notice that some laptops would be made in japan or china.  Some of the laptops sold here in phils are actually made here.

i have a toshiba satellite pro issued to me by our company and honestly its the same as any other brand, it heats up as well. can anyone of you explain why it heats up and why your lappies dont? i guess it would be unfair for us to be brand specific with regards to this issue.

^p3t3r, i dunno.  Mine is a portege.  I used this everyday.  As in at work and when I get home even during weekends.  Pero di naman sya umiinit.  Even my officemates agree kasi i don't have to buy ventilation accessories unlike them.      Based on the user's manual, mine has an internal temperature sensor (that's what its called).  If the computer's internal temperature rises to a certain level, the cooling fan is turned on or the processing speed is lowered.

well i guess having the top of the line has a few perks there's actually an application that does the same thing but unfortunately i can't remember where i've seen this.

i would suggest proper care of your lappy, regular updates, cleaning of ehaust vents, defragmentation, antivirus updates. there will be no assurance of crashes. normally crashes are software related.
