Using the husband's surname, will you or will you not?

surname ni hubby ang gamit ko sa important documents. pero pag sa office, hyphenated ang nilalagay nila. la lang type nila hehe sa kin ok lang din naman na ganun kasi yung iba ang alam nila yung maiden name ko pa.

I use hubby's surname.  dito kasi sa Phils, hassle if your legal documents are showing different surnames.  hindi kasi common na i-retain ng wives yung last name nila.  pero sa office email ko, I retained my last name, tapos sa email signature ko hyphenated.  confusing kasi sa mga office contacts pag bigla na-iba yung name

hubby has a cousin in law who retained her maiden name.  sa mga legal docs nya may parenthetical notation lang na "married to....".  But then she's french....  after more than 35 yrs of marriage daw, she still cannot bring herself to adopt her husband's last name

But legally, sisses a married woman can use only any of the three:
(1) Her maiden first name and surname and add her husband's surname, or
(2) Her maiden first name and her husband's surname or
(3) Her husband's full name, but prefixing a word indicating that she is his wife, such as "Mrs."

example: Jane Smith marries John Doe. Jane can choose between the following names to use:
1) Jane Smith-Doe; or
2) Jane Doe; or
3) Mrs. John Doe. (so actually, when we say, Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, we're mistaken because it's as if we're saying Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo is the full name of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's husband!

If I knew that I can keep my name, I would have. When my hubby learned about this, nagtampo to the max. Ayaw ko daw ba ng surname niya? Haha. Well, if using his surname makes him happy, I'm glad to oblige. Small thing lang naman. I used to sign using both my surname and his with a hyphen but since both our surnames are long, I found myself using his surname only.

i am using a hyphenated surname, but my last name is my hubby's surname, and my middle name is my maiden name... i guess this is the legal way... meron kasing ibang documents where there is a question on mother's maiden name, so para iwas gulo, my father's surname is my maiden name...

i use my husband surname.. i still wanted to use my lastname and just put hypen on it.. kaya lang for the documents and files mahirap gawin kasi baka magkalituhan pa..
