For those who do Pilates on their own at home, what videos do you have and how are they? :)

^I try doing pilates at home, it was not easy! I bought an MTV Pilates video at Odyssey store. Mas ok if someone would teach you how to do the postures right kasi you have to protect the spine and your back.

^i also tried the mtv pilates 3 years ago.  medyo mahirap nga yun for a beginner.  if you'll watch it lang, akala mo madali but once you start doing it yourself...dun mo mafi-feel na hindi lang basta simple stretching yun.  mas gusto ko yung winsor pilates,  yung for buns and thighs..it really works! :)

;D ^Kakatuwa, nagstart kami kagabi. OKay kasi konti lang kami, homey yung feeling at hindi ka mahihiya. yey! career-mode na talaga tong pilates na to! ;D

sis wala bang pilates offer good for a whole year? since nagstart na yun pilates classes kaya pa bang humabol pag may/june enrollment?

also ang mahirap pag walang fixed students ...mas matagal bago magmove to more advanced poses. does the instructor repeat? kung hindi naman kawawa mga walk in newbies

sis its a really small class of 6-8 lang. eh [textspeak!] mga blockmates ko, we're almost 6 now so baka magpalipat kami ng sked nalang. nagaadvance na kami ngayon, at lumiliit na ang tyan ko nagulat talaga ako!

anyhoo, napansin ko like last week, merong nagwalk in na dalawa, so nangyari adbance poses kami pero yung instructor binigyan yung dalawa ng options na for starters lang. kaya nyang gawin yun kasi nga konti lang kami, i guess.

re whole year enrolment sis, i think you can try to talk to them. the owner is very flexible and friendly din. kami nga pagdating ng june maghahanap pa ng schedule na swak sa sched namin sa law school. pero willing naman sila to accommodate us. so happy. tuloy tuloy na to! ;D

For those who do Pilates on their own at home, what videos do you have and how are they? :)

I've tried pilates for about a week in a studio in manila. When I transferred to the province (walang pilates studio dito), I bought Mari Winsor's dvd. Meron dun one dvd that will teach you how to do the postures. I've been doing pilates for over 3 years na (on/off). Recently, I discovered the video PILATES FOR DUMMIES. It's a 30-minute workout but it really teaches beginners the correct form. Walang sinabi si winsor.

Right now, I'm doing the 10 minute solutions pilates. (you can view this sa youtube, I just downloaded mine from there). It targets specific areas and the workout lasts for 10minutes lang per area. Even if 10 minutes lang workout, pinapawisan pa rin ako. :)

^ I'm not sure if the studio is still around. It's actually a dance studio sa may Quezon Ave.'s The Outlet Yard.

I really love doing Pilates, even if I do other workouts (ie Turbo Jam, hip hop abs, etc..), bumabalik pa rin ako sa Pilates.

i already have the pilates for dummies. What's the difference between the effects from pilates and other exercise like hip-hop abs? I've been doing hip hop abs for almost a month, kaso parang nagsasawa na ko.

^ di ako expert ha, correct me if i'm wrong... hiphop abs kasi is more of cardio exercise.  its rhythmic activity is aimed to make you really sweat.   i do pilates sa fitness first, and our instructor always emphasizes that pilates aims to strengthen your core - that's the abdomen, lower back (spine), hips and buttocks - through slow but very coordinated movements.  it won't make you sweat as much as hiphop abs but it will warm you up for sure.

^ I think they complement each other. Since hip hop abs is more for cardio and pilates is more for toning and strengthening. You lose weight doing cardio at the same time you tone your muscles with pilates.

^ before my mom has a book though not really on pilates but they are exercises for women. for girls, teens, pregnant, post partum with carrying baby moves, mother with toddler exercises. pero cool yung moves... for pilates, yung ibang stretching lang siguro pero not so strenous na nagro-roll ka... consult your ob din..
