Instead of making it easier for couples to dissolve marriage, why don't we try making it a little bit difficult for couples to getting married. Maybe longer approval period for the marriage license? Or longer church approval perhaps? 1-week retreat for prospective couples?

If I wanted, really wanted to marry my girlfriend, I wouldn't mind waiting a little more time. This would also discourage couples from getting married if their heart is not really into it, or if they really don't have a good understanding of what they are getting into, or napasubo lang dahil buntis na.

This might also be a dumb idea, but hey, this is a free country.  ;D

Legalizing divorce has long been a sensitive issue in a Catholic country. It's the same issue that led King Henry VIII to break away from the Catholic Church and found the Church of England so he can divorce his wife and marry Anne Boleyn.

Let's face it. The Catholic Church will never allow divorce for its flock. The church considers marriage a covenant rather than a contract. What's the difference? In the words of noted Scott Hahn, " covenant differs from a contract about as much as marriage differs from prostitution. In a contract you exchange property, whereas in a covenant you exchange persons. In a contract you say, "This is yours and that is mine," but Scripture shows how in a covenant you say, "I am yours and you are mine."".

Even if the state legalizes divorce, the Catholic church never will. Ultimately, it will be a choice between man/woman (or the third or fourth sex) and his faith.

^ Though as I have said, divorce is legalized in Rome, where the seat of the Catholic church is.  So ironic, right?!?!?

^Ironic? Yes. Surprising? Not really. Relativism has many believers, transcending geographical and political boundaries, probably because it's convenient. Then again, just because all others do it does not mean it is the right thing to do.  :-\

so, hindi sya ma renew kasi kelangan ng 2 signatures =) its like getting married all over again that's why you renew dba? kung ayaw na ng isang party e may magagawa pa ba? e sa ayaw na eh.

if the other party doesnt want to renew then the marriage is already null and void? paano kung ayaw magrenew pero they are still doing what normal married couples do. tapos nabuntis yung babae, then wouldnt it make the kid illegitimate? ang gulo nun lalo na kung meron silang kid from the previous marriage. yung first kid legitimate yung 2nd illegitimate na.

methinks kung renewable ang kasal after what, 3 years? eh wag na lang magpakasal. mag live-in na lang. atleast it would save you the hassle of going to the court for property rights (unless may prenuptial).

besides if i really love my partner (and vice versa) and we are happily married, why should i be inconvenienced with renewing my marriage every +years? libre ba yung renewal? eh pano kung wala kaming pera pareho at di namin ma-afford magpa renew, then due to technicality separated na kami? take note di lang pala separated. hindi na kami kasal. nooooooo! i dont want! :)

i think okay ang renewal, kung talagang halos magpatayan na kayo ng asawa mo. but then again kung at 1 year of marriage eh bugbog sarado ka na, hihintayin mo ba matapos yung renewal period para hiwalayan asawa mo? baka by that time ang nirerenew na ng mga kapamilya mo eh yung kontrata dun sa puntod mo (sorry, morbid).

**or pwede rin na after +years, the marriage is deemed renewed unless the other/both party says otherwise. but then, if this is what you mean, why not just go for divorce instead? atleast wala ng ++years na kailangang palipasin bago mo mahiwalayn ang [textspeak!]@s mong asawa. diba. :)

^ sis its just a suggestion. of course dapat free yung renewal and about kung ilang taon, i dunno, 5 years? about yung issue if both are still consumating the marriage, have kids etc. well, di ba sa divorce ganun din? may ibang still consumating the marriage and nabubuntis pa nga while on the process of divorce?

like i said, its a good alternative to divorce. madaming pros and cons whether divorce or renewal etc. in germany and other countries in europe, they are already thinking about this.

bottomline, ke divorce or annulment or renewal of marriage, meron talagang cases jan na grey areas like what you cited. nasa mag-asawa na yan kung ano gusto nilang gawin. like i said, these should be just options for couples. bahala na sila what they want. and the church shouldnt dictate these.

actually gusto ko nga, merong divorce, annulment and renewal of marriage. para sige bahala na couple what option when want to take. para walang nasasayng na oras at pera.

^ tama, para madaming choices :D  bottomline lang naman pag ganito, wag papakasal pag di sigurado.  Madami na kasi ngayon na nagpapakasal lang dahil nabuntis etc.  then after some time, pag malaki na bata, n-grow out of love na pareho kasi nga the reason for marriage was not that solid.

kung magkaroon man ng divorce dito sa Pinas, most likely it would not be in our lifetime.

sa CHA-CHA pa nga lang dami na pumapalag, divorce pa kaya? kung tutuusin, bulok na ang Constitution natin, ayaw pa ngang palitan.

Gawa kaya tayo ng signature campaign sa statement na something like, "We, a group of THINKING Filipinas..."?  Gawa ng club or something?
