My inquiring mind wants to know the logic behind that.

Anong logic ng pagkakaroon ng divorce if di pwede magpakasal uli? May legal separation na sa bansa e. Saka bakit di pwedeng pakasal uli? Who are we to deny a 2nd chance of happiness to these people?

If you don't want divorce then don't get one. But let other people have an option kapag ayaw na nila.

^ I don't think that's fair.

Life is not really fair. I said that kasi, kung maghihiwalay lang at wala talaga yung commitment, eh di better not na lang magpakasal. Para saan pa ang sumpaan na for better of for worse? Kung hihiwalay lang kasi worse things have happened? eh di alisin na lang din kaya natin yung sumpaan na "for better of for worse" kapag wedding ceremony?  Kasal kasi yun. Yung definition nya by law at by faith existing na dati pa. So kung di natin kayang sundin or panindigan, why not wag na lang natin gawin at all? Pero for the sake na meron, , I suggested na gawa na lang ng law for that like civil union or civil partnership.

If we are actually to based everything in the scripture, sabi dun the only reason for divorce is kapag may adultery. So yeah pwede ang divorce for that reason if mag base dun. Pero it didn't say na you can re-marry at all. Ang alam ko lang if using the same source, ang reason to re-marry is kapag widow or widower ka na.

One of the worse thing na pwede mangyari if naging legal ang divorce, kapag nakakita lang si partner ng mas better sa partner nya, he could make a reasons to get a divorce para lang maka lipat dun sa bago nyang nagustuhan. Kumbaga kung laging may easy way out at may means to quit upon someone's selfish decision, mas madaling ma-abuse at ma-taken lightly ang marriage. So again, if wala pa sa katinuan mag commit and to sacrifice even your own happiness, then wag na magpakasal.

Marriage by definition, is already existing dati pa so why change it if di naman din pala tayo susunod sa sumpaan na for better or for worse? Kaya nga I suggested above, if ever gusto talaga ng option, make something similar to marriage na lang like civil union or civil partnership. That way may option if mag quit it'll be easy. Marriage by traditional definition is for man and woman, then why change it dahil sa kanila? So I suggest gawa na lang ng ibang law for that. Same with marriage na once-and-for-all. If di rin kayang ganun na lang, then make a law for that din.

Who says that because there is divorce, marriage will be taken lightly? Wala naman atang tao na magpapakasal lang basta basta because they find divorce as a safety net.

Divorce requires legal proceedings too. If one party is not amenable to the conditions of the divorce, eh di wag pumirma.

I live in a country na may divorce pero hindi naman naming naiisip ng asawa ko na ah okay dito kasi may divorce. Mas takot pa nga asawa ko magloko dahil may divorce eh. Hehe.

Pero wala din sa scripture ang cohabitation if that is where you are basing your stand against divorce. So you'll prefer cohabitation than get married?

If you are going to quote the Bible then refer to it in proper context and properly. Divorce was prohibited for exactly the same reason, WOMEN WERE BEING ABUSED. During the Old Testament, men can divorce their wives just for any reason. If you apply it in the modern times, you burn my toast and you will be divorced. In Deuteronomy  24:1-2, divorce was allowed and even re-marriage. Second, so okay lang ang live in pero di pwede divorce? And you are quoting the Bible? Your logic is flawed, in my opinion. Third, even God divorced Israel. In Paul's letters in the New Testament he even said that although it's better to be single, the unmarried (those who got divorced) to get married than to be overwhelmed with desire. If you really read everything that pertains to divorce, iba-iba ang mababasa mo dyan. There are times I was thinking contradicting naman until I understand that God deals with this issue on an individual basis.

What? The issue of LGBT is totally different from divorce. The LGBT is asking for equality. Divorce is for those who are victims of abuse. And you don't deal with the problem by making another law. It will actually make it worse. Your logic is kapag me divorce na, it's an easy way out of marriage. But you are suggesting to make another law to make it easy to opt out of a relationship legally? Ano yun, pakitang tao at pabalat bunga? You consider your marriage sacred then do so and hats off to you. Does it affect the sacredness of YOUR marriage if other people get divorce? I doubt it. You are more concerned about image. Masisira ang image ng mga perpekto just because there is a woman here who got married to a jerk that abandoned his responsibilities and did not follow the other half of his covenant to his wife.

I suggest you study divorce cases bago kasi magsalita. Divorce IS NOT and WILL NOT make it easy to leave. It actually makes the husbands (because in the Philippines, the wives are the usual victims of abuse) think twice before leaving the wives. Once there is a divorce law, it will become mandatory for wives to receive alimony and child support.

Isa pa, I don't think divorce will be very cheap. Gagastos ka pa din dito but maybe not as much as what you will be spending in getting an annulment. The only advantage I see is mas bibilis lang ang process ng hiwalayan lalo na kung mutual decision at hindi ninyo kailangan maglabasan ng baho mapatunayan lang na incapacitated ka or ang partner mo (lalo na pagpsych incapicity ang grounds).

At some point in our lives, aakalain talaga natin na iyong partner natin ang siyang makakasama natin habang buhay. Anything could happen.

I don't think couples would take marriage for granted.

Ok. You asked why I got with that idea, so I explained my side. I'm not here to convince you not to support having divorce.

Quote
If you are going to quote the Bible then refer to it in proper context and properly. Divorce was prohibited for exactly the same reason, WOMEN WERE BEING ABUSED. During the Old Testament, men can divorce their wives just for any reason. If you apply it in the modern times, you burn my toast and you will be divorced. In Deuteronomy  24:1-2, divorce was allowed and even re-marriage.

Yeah, context you mean? If I was going to use that context, then I would have as well advocate stoning to death those who were found guilty of adultery? But anyway, that was the Old testament. It is not what I am talking when I raise my point.  If we really want context, God really hates divorce. It is because of the people's hardness of heart that he just wrote that commandment. But then, within the new testament context He allowed it, but adultery lang ang maaaring reason ng divorce. But looking futher, from the beginning of creation it was not made to have that.

Quote
and even re-marriage. Second, so okay lang ang live in pero di pwede divorce? And you are quoting the Bible? Your logic is flawed, in my opinio

Following my answer above, it says that "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her", and vice versa. The reason I said that if ever they allowed divorce, it is not an entitlement to re-marry. Ang sa akin lang naman for that logic, if you divorce someone, then you re-marry, but considered as adultery. So what is the difference?

Quote
Third, even God divorced Israel. In Paul's letters in the New Testament he even said that although it's better to be single, the unmarried (those who got divorced) to get married than to be overwhelmed with desire. If you really read everything that pertains to divorce, iba-iba ang mababasa mo dyan. There are times I was thinking contradicting naman until I understand that God deals with this issue on an individual basis.

God was forced to divorce israel because israel commited apostasy which is considered as spiritual adultery. And speaking of Paul's letters in the New testament, yes he is pertaining to the "unmarried" and "widows". And no, he is not referring to the unmarried as those who got divorced. It is clearly not indicated. And the word unmarried is never synonymous to the word "divorced".

Yes I agree with you madaming contradictions sa scriptures. Sad thing that we only look and apply what is only fitting to our situation.

Quote
What? The issue of LGBT is totally different from divorce. The LGBT is asking for equality. Divorce is for those who are victims of abuse. And you don't deal with the problem by making another law. I

Sad to tell you but it is not that different. It is like changing the definition to cater their needs and situation. Anyway,  kidding aside, kaya nga if gusto talaga nila yung marriage, eh wag sila magpakasal sa church. Or create their own religion na allowed yung marriage nila. If not, eh di yun nga create a law or something constitutional. Same with divorce, if the church does not allow that, bakit di na lang sila magpalit ng religion? and alisin na lang yung words na Til death do us part. Saka yung for bettter or for worse.

Yes it does. Kasi marriage is a picture of how Christ loves the church. It is not about just the people who got married. It is more about the church.

Pero naisip ko nga. Kung separation of the state and the church ang usapan, pwede pala talagang magkaroon ng divorce ayon sa constitutional definition ng marriage.

Don't get me wrong. I advocate na we are all responsible of the consequences of our action. But I don't think divorce din ang makaka resolve for that.

A sin is already a sin. It may be legal sa law, pero sa sinumpaan sa simbahan, I don't think it is. But yes, na-enlighten ako dito. Better nga na magkaroon ng divorce law in marriage definition constitutionally. Pero siguro, wag na lang din natin i-pressure ang simbahan if they don't agree to that. Pwede pa din naman ikasal outside sa church, pero dahil nga taliwas sa paniniwala nila, we can't force them to comply.

Quote
I am so happy for you. It means your marriage turned out the way you want it to be. But unfortunately, it's not the same for all of us.

Kaya nga if ever, omit na lang natin yung sumpaan. I thought kasi kapag pumasok sa marriage, you are willing to die for it. Yun kasi yung sinasabi. Something na pinasok mo na alam mo na walang way to go out. But it is just me.

Personally, kahit ano pa ang reason, if two consenting adults want the marriage to end, then let them be. Kung hindi na sila masaya, bakit ipipilit.

The issues of LGBT ARE NOT the same with divorce...lol!
Sure, let's put God in a box here.
Of course divorce will not solve the problem. But to suggest to create another law is not either...lol!

And I am not going to argue with anyone. Maigi pa matulog...lol!

ETA: My situation is the "exception clause" in the Bible. Meaning, I am allowed to get divorce AND re-marry. I should make it clear. So, I am not pro divorce because of my own personal interests.  I am pro divorce because I have seen and heard a lot of women, even in churches, who were and are forced to stay in an abusive because they are saying the Bible says you should not. The apathy within the organization is shocking. My mother-in-law once helped a woman who was being forced to go back to her husband who was sexually abusing their own son. To say that we should stay in the marriage kahit sira ulo pa naging asawa mo is irresponsible. And I think I can safely assume that in the Philippines, 99.9999% percent of marital problems have something to do with philandering...meaning adultery which is the exception clause in the Bible. So yes, there should be divorce law in the Philippines.

It's case to case basis. I don't think na may taong gusto na maghiwalay after ikasal after spending hundreds of thousands. Like in my case, I will literally die if I stayed. But I would rather not.

Btw, with regards to stoning to death in case of adulterers. Take note that it's the guilty party that's stoned to death NOT the innocent spouse. So to satisfy the right wing Pinoys, agree ako to put a stricter rule for the divorce law in the Philippines. I will sign that petition for the following:

1. Stone to death the adulterers....lol!
2. The guilty party can not remarry.

Siguro naman wala ng kokontra dyan! ;D

I agree, a sin is a sin however there is a way to correct that sin.

I thought kasi kapag pumasok sa marriage, you are willing to die for it. Yun kasi yung sinasabi. Something na pinasok mo na alam mo na walang way to go out. But it is just me.

Ito lang ha for me, it takes two to tango.

So better put your marriages outside the scriptures context na din. Very convenient kasi talaga to follow things that suit our needs and ignore those have not. No one is opposing you. May kilala ako, babaero sya. To make that legal for him, nag convert sya sa Islam para legal magkaroon ng more than 1 wife.

Don't get me wrong. Yung commitment ang sinasabi ko na til death do them part. Maghiwalay man sila, or magkalimutan, in the church's context, sila pa din ang magasawa. Hindi ko sinabi na magpaka martyr ka. You can leave if you want to. That's the reason na I said, na regardless, divorce ka man o hindi, when you remarry after marriage for whatever reason, counted as adultery pa rin sya.

This will be the last time I will say something about this. In church's context, husband and wife is a picture of what Christ and the church is. Do you know how much christ loved the church? Kahit people don't deserve it. He gave up himself and died for them. But for the sake of everyone's sake, it's up to the law na lang talaga. Kung ipasa ang divorce, I'll respect it and I will not be against it. But for now, you can't expect na maging advocate naman for it.

Do not condemn the condemned daw pero mas nauuna naman sila magkondena sa sinners. Sometimes they don't even want to forgive ang nagkasala sa kanila.

You are contradicting yourself. You seem so conservative at one one end and very liberated on the other. You have to make up your mind. Your inexperience in life shows. From the way you say it, civil wedding is not as legal, not as holy and not as pure as church wedding. They are both recognized by God, dude. In Matthew 18:18: Whatever we bind here on earth is bound in heaven. You are sooo worried that divorce will taint the holiness and purity of your wedding just because it's THE CHURCH wedding. I am sorry to say but it really sounds sooo snotty. You can school me on this but I really don't remember any verse that says the one's divorce taints the  holiness of other people's wedding or marriage. Your problem is that you put the offending party and the victim on the same light. Divorce was permitted to protect the innocent. When divorce was permitted, it says ``Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard``. It was because they were abusing the wives. Not because both of them just wanted an easy way out. Women during that time has zero rights and to protect them, divorce was permitted. Because they were putting away their wives and the wives can not remarry. The rule was to give the one being divorced divorce papers. That way, she won't be stoned to death if they find out that she is still legally married to his ex. God hates divorce but it nowhere says that he hates the divorcee. The sin is not being divorced otherwise, God will not permit it. The sin is the adultery and abuse. It`s breaking your covenant. I told you that even God divorced Israel. Your response was because she is an adulterer. You just proved my point there! In Matthew 19, Jesus was asked by the Pharisees about divorce. He gave him the hard answer because they were not really looking for answer. They just want to trap him. Like I said, read it within context. You said, that if we are going to put everything in Biblical context the punishment is stoning to death. But who is being stoned to death, is it the innocent? And of course, there will be no divorce at that time because the offending party is dead, patay, chugi! What's the point of divorce?

So, for you offensive ang divorce but it`s okay to fornicate? Fornication is also a form of adultery and it`s a sin? Sabi mo, sin is a sin, right ? Anong church yan ha? I kennat even... ;D I am sure your response is yung live in hindi naman sumumpa sa simbahan. Oh, I am pretty sure if you`re the innocent divorcee, God will not take it against you. But if you cohabitate willingly (I guess, wala namang nakipag-live in ng sapilitan...lol),I am pretty sure you fall under the sinner category. I think if there`s anyone who needs to change religion, it`s you. Because you don`t know what you are talking about.

^ sorry if na hurt kita. But what I said is true.

We could argue here ng walang katapusan.

Personally, kahit ano pa ang reason, if two consenting adults want the marriage to end, then let them be. Kung hindi na sila masaya, bakit ipipilit.

Agree and besides there will be grounds naman to be met before it will be granted hindi basta ayaw na nila
