whats the best antivirus software to use?

i'm currently using avg, i tried to install mcafee before pero nakakabagal ng comp ko..

Trend Micro is also good pero good in detection lang ..

if you want to use McAfee, i suggest you try a different version of the program.  example, kung bumagal yung PC mo when you were using the 2006 version, try the 2007 version, baka mas maayos na.  ganyan din kasi nangyari sa Norton, resource hog yung 2006 version.  the 2007 version is much better.

i prefer using Norton or McAfee, but i've heard that AVG and Kaspersky is also good.

Avast! is good to use, I think they have a free version.

NOD32 is my pick for Windows users, although its interface doesn't look like it's easy to use. However, it does the job and doesn't slow down your computer.

Anti-virus will only make sure computer slow, suggestion ko lang, dont click pop-ups, lagi nyo check Temp Files, BHO's (Browser Helper Object)eto po un laging target na kapitan ng mga virus, System32 folder jan po lagi nakasave mga virus, trojans and spyware, modified mo lang un folder to the latest date, then search mo un mga nasa top 10 list nasa folder then search mo sa internet kung ano un mga dll na un... madali lang po mag manage ng pc, most Anti-Virus kc nakakabagal lang ng pc.. for more questions about viruses and trojans and spyware, message nyo lang ako...  i'll help you po!!

^ i don't really recommend not using an AV software coz you'll never know kung kelan ka pdeng ma-infect. kahit [textspeak!] ka mag-click na pop-up, you might still get infected by just visiting some websites or even by opening up legit word documents on your email. though it'll be easy for some to manually remove (some) viruses by running a process browser + hijackthis etc, i guess prevention is really better than cure. that's why we need to choose a good AV that isn't a resource hog, and among them for me are Kaspersky and NOD32. just make sure your AVs are always up to date and so is your Windows by installing the latest hotfixes/patches regularly. good thing about AVs nowadays is that they also alert you on "virus-like" activities that might need your attention.

plus, you can also add an additional line of defense to your system such as Mike Lin's startup monitor, etc (mlin.net).

and if those does make your computer run slow, i guess it's time for an upgrade then. an additional RAM maybe?

highly recommended ko ang AVG. hindi rin sya gaano kumakain ng disk space.

what would you do kung na-infect ng matinding virus PC mo? can you identify the virus immediately? can you block a virus w/out the help of antivir softwares...?

viruses today are specialist(worm,spyware,trojans,rootkits.etc..etc) and they can easily hide from ordinary scanners.

my PC has 3 security system(firewall,antivir,behaviour monitor software(real time)) and all are free from download.com and im using Pentium3-550mhz did not slowdown my PC or internet connection. its just how to pick a good antivir that are not hog resource.

^there are lot ways to identify if your computer is infected, ex: ur browser is being re-direct to other website, ur computer is getting slow, ur desktop is being hi-jack, u get pop-ups.. u cant block them to spread into ur computer, what you can do even though u have security software installed, always check your C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder, choose Detail so u can see the latest dates of DLL files entry and double click on 'Date Modified', that way u will see DLL and EXE file, u can search it on the web, if it's unknown or trojan, virus or worm, then delete it. Always check your BHO's registry entry. Un lang ginagawa ko sa house, same thing na ginagawa ko sa customer ko sa work, they have updated AV pero nai-infect pa den, ako, no other security software i always make my computer clean =)

Saan po ba maganda bumili ng NOD32? i inquired for the original and it costs 2,690php...not bad dba..pero every year ba do i need to purchase latest version or just update it?

avg and nod 32 are ok..no to mcafee and symantec...madali ma corrupt/ takes up too much space

you can also try Avira's Antivir ..
got a license which is good for 6 months just by registering at their website ..

 free antivirus are not that good when it comes to detection coz they don't used heuristic that's why its free. i have used AVG(free) and avast. avast is more reliable than AVG but now im using nod32 v2.70 it has high detection rate and fast scanning. very minimal sa resources won't slow down other application. wala nga lang offline update it means you can't download update package(signatures) to manually update nod32 unlike other AV.
