Why hasn't anyone tried to do a modern take on The Island of Doctor Moreau

I know the 1996 movie wasn't particularly good (perhaps cursed too) but that wasn't a problem with the story itself. I recall the original story being among the classic of literature yet there wasn't as much movie as other classic. How come no director ever stepped up to make a modern take on the story? I think it could be interesting having maybe a good movie about this book 10.0.0.0.1 192.168.1.254 .
