What movie has the bleakest ending in your opinion?

I saw the movie The Vanishing. No, not the 2018 one with Gerard Butler (which he was also the producer). But the Dutch one made in 1988. Seems like there are a few movies with that title...

It is a psychological thriller about a guy whose girlfriend disappears and he tries to find out what happened to her. But damn it's a bleak movie. Particularly how it ends.
