Sana may magaling na CPA dito or auditor para they can explain kahit in a simplest way na maiintindihan ng nakararami kung paano nasabi na sa BIR wala talaga nilabag na pagbabayad ng tax ang abs cbn pero sa point of view ng govt eh meron talaga nilabag.. May friend is a CPA and pinaliwanag nya na sakin kung paano naikutan ng mga accountant ng abs cbn yung pagbabayad ng karampatang tax para sa kanila. I'm a CPA who previously worked for a long time in one of the Big 4s. My two cents.

Tax avoidance vs. tax evasion. What ABS did was tax avoidance which is PERFECTLY LEGAL. These are schemes to "minimize" tax payments by utilizing what is already there, i.e. directing to non profits, donations, CSR etc which can be claimed as tax deductions and credits. 

Almost all companies do this around the world. My current company puts up holding companies in jerseys as tax havens. Yung office namin ngayon, located sa PEZA location which means we get to enjoy tax holidays up to 5 years and preferential tax rates which is a lot lower compared to the regular corporation tax rate. Yung Big Dipper ng ABS, PEZA registered po. Masalimuot po itong usapin.

On a personal level para makarelate kayo, dati pwede mong i-claim ang purchase of computers and textbooks for you to offset from your total tax payable. Pinapababa mo ang babayaran mo through legal means. You would also be surprised that the company that you're working for are doing tax avoidance schemes. Like I said, almost all companies do this because it is a common practice that is legal. For non-finance people, the mere term "avoidance" sounds illegal. It is not.

Tax evasion, on the other hand, is deliberate and illegal. Ito ang bawal.

Now companies employ services of tax advisors for advise on how to minimize tax liabilities, hence tax avoidance schemes. Hindi kasalanan ng ABS na magagaling ang mga tax advisors nila at napababa ang tax payments. You can't compare it to GMA. Andaming subsidiaries under ABS para maallocate at mabawasan ang tax payments nila.

Also, BIR na nga nagsabi na walang tax liabilities diba? I mean they are the highest tax authorities here? Kung sila na nagsabi na walang tax liabilities, ipipilit pa ba? E wala namang napakita yung apat na kongresista sa claims nila except comparisons to GMA tax lol. Pati nga SEC na kaakibat ng BIR, they cleared ABS name. Also, kung may pagkukulang nga sa tax, bakit walang kaso?

Simpleng google lang naman ang tax avoidance in layman's terms na madaling maintindihan.

Yun na yung umpisa ng discussion dito. Top regulating agencies na ang nagsabi wala lahat violations but some just kept on pushing articles from fake news mongers. Mga sis kahit nga legit newspapers ngayon naglalabas na ng fake news, ang daming budget!!! Then pag wala ng ibabato sasabihin franchise is a privilege not a right. So kung ayaw ng congress di pwede bigyan kahit pa established na ang company for decades. Don't you think that's so screwed up? Do you really trust our representatives that much?

Don't rely on articles. Please watch the entire hearing and see for yourself on what happened. Getting clips and bits of news from articles are not enough. Read the TWG report and decide if the congress did the right thing.

If I'm not mistaken, kahit naman as individual tax payer sa Pilipinas, you can avail of "tax avoidance" like donating to charities. Hindi lang talaga financially knowledgeable most pinoys.

What's the issue about Nas and Wil Daso something? My friend told me na matagal na daw yung podcast na yun of Nas and Wil -and it was an open discussion. Months later, what Wil said was taken out of context na daw because of a post sa twitter ba or an article about it. And then nagkagulo na mga opinion ng tao.

Yung sa ABS ba, what will happen if they just opted to sell it. Ma reretain ba mga employees nito? What can be an alternative for it to still operate, so that the employees can still keep their job?

Thanks that somebody pointed this out. Has to be said as a reminder to everyone. Fake news is simply fake news, it's not an opinion. Let's all be wiser in verifying any news we read or receive from LEGIT sources, especially from real journalists who have done extensive background checks before they publish stories. If you hate ABS CBN, you could verify from other legit news outlets like CNN Philippines or Philippine Star or Inquirer. At this time and age, so many feeling news outlets have sprung which confuses people that they're delivering reliable news. They're not.

If not verified, the "news" is just plain chismis like what we do here with FP BIs and such. Chismis is fun when discussed in this context, if it doesn't harm actual people's lives or plunge your own country's economy.

Thanks for explaining this for people to learn. It breaks my heart to see so many Filipinos passing around the GMA vs ABS tax meme as comparison because it makes me realize how many Filipinos are financially illiterate or does not understand how tax payments work.

One thing to also note is that ABS have obviously been spending for more than GMA (their own artistas' talent fees are double or triple than GMA's, you can see their shooting locations are always overseas, and their production costs involve more investments). Very simple math to remember is: Taxable income is income less expenses. If malaki expenses mo, mas maliit tax mo. Kung 3x ang income ng ABS than GMA pero 3x din ang expenses ng ABS, then it makes sense na same lang sila ng tax.

May nabasa ako na inireport ni K Brosas ang basher niya sa employer nito. Sabi ni employer they don?t tolerate that kind of behavior daw. Di naman siguro maaalis si basher sa work pero magtanda na siya sana. Sa office kasi namin meron behavioral something outside company premises kasama na yung attitude sa socmed kaya most likely mapaparusahan talaga yung tao na yun if ii-enforce ng employer yun. Yung iba nagagalit na nagreklamo si K sa emoloyer, nagsasabi pa na wala na daw bang freedom of expression. Jusqoooo part pa ba ng freedom of expression ang panlalait at pagmumura sa taong di mo naman kilala ng personal.
