That's refreshing to hear mei-mei. Naalala ko nung HS ako, when asked if I dream of working abroad, I always say no, di ako fan. Sabi ng isang teacher ko, I only say it cause I'm young and I don't have a family to raise yet. Pero when I had my family, mas lalo kong naappreciate yung life dito sa Pilipinas. Even when I had the opportunity to work in the US (been there and hindi talaga ako naimpress, lol), I had all my doubts when I had my daughter. I still want to raise my child here.
Most of my college friends are in the US. Sabi nila, yes life there is not as laid back kagaya dito, but if you're surrounded with the right people, masaya naman daw. So the key is to find the good people. Siguro advantage sa kanila na halos mga schoolmates rin namin yung kasama nila doon (same field) so magkakakilala na talaga sila to begin with. Sila na yung naging family nila doon.
Pero agree ako na in terms of compensation, kaya rin kitain here sa Pinas. But not with the same profession definitely. For example, my sister in law who's a nanny in the UK earns as much as my sister who is a big time accountant here in PH. Siguro what other people look for is the opportunity, kasi here sa Pinas if you're not as privileged, there's really no way for you to earn that much money. Same with my profession, di ko kikitain dito yung kinikita ng friends ko sa US. But I can earn that much if I do other things (run a business). If goal mo lang is employment, then definitely go abroad for 'greener pastures'. But if may chance ka naman magbusiness here, for me okay pa rin dito.
I also agree with amethyst, that there is no such thing as maliit or malaking sweldo. All depends on your lifestyle. I'm not against treating yourself once in a while. Pero if we prioritize the more important things, even the minimum salary can be enough (sadly though, yung mga minimum wage earners, sila pa yung maraming sinusuportahan na anak or magulang).

On topic, I work from home with one full time client and another part time. Then I run two small businesses on the side. Income from the business isn't fixed, but lahat yun always direcho sa savings and insurance ng daughter ko. We live off of my husband's income, so my income all goes to savings/insurance and our house amortization.
