To Accept or Not - Job Offer/Additional Raket
« on: March 12, 2018, 05:37:34 pm »
Hello guys! I have a dilemma and need different opinions. I'm working part-time from home (3 hrs a day/15 hours a week). I have an 8-year old child and my husband works full-time (from home, too). I recently got a new job offer from an Australian client that requires me to work on a specific schedule, 11 am-3 pm Manila time. The pay is really good. But I was told that the first 2 months in the position will be very demanding and consist of intensive, steep learning curve. That's where I'm getting really worried and reluctant. I love to learning new things and this position promises that. But I'm not sure how the stress level will affect my role as a mother and wife. Take note that after working there, I will work naman with my other client.

I do most of the housework around here. I tutor my kid also. My husband's work is 3 pm-1 am. The only time he can really help out within those timeframe is during dinner because he's in-charge of the dishes.

I'm scared that by the time I'm done with my work, I've no more energy to talk to my daughter, even ask how she's doing, or help her with her homework.

My husband and I agreed that if I accept the job, I'd have to wake up earlier (6 am) to prepare breakfast and my daughter's baon. OK lang naman. No problem with that. Then lunch and dinner buy na lang or eat out. I'm not even sure that's practical. But obviously, there'd be no more time to cook full meals.

The advantage of the new job is good pay and new learning opportunity. The disadvantage the way I see it, more stress, less time with the family, less energy to guide, help my daughter with her school work, and more gastos in terms of everyday meals (if we're gonna end up eating out/delivery for lunch and dinner).

My husband thinks if it's gonna bring me more stress wag na lang daw. He knows kasi I have very short fuse and yell a lot when I'm stressed out hehe. The promise of learning something new that will help me more marketable is hard to resist. Maybe it's now a matter of which is more important, career or family. But I'm really having a hard time deciding.

Any feedback is highly appreciated :)

Siguro first thing to do is to really think about why you're working from home -- anong main motivation mo? Money, time with family, new learning? Then you decide from there.

I work from home too. Recently lang rin ako nagfull time talaga. When I decided na magventure into working from home, my main reason was I wanted to be really hands-on with my daughter while still helping my husband sa bills. Which is naachieve ko naman, I used to work part time lang then. Nung may opportunity to do full time, I took it, and then got myself a helper for the house. I'm still my daughter's primary caregiver (she's 21 months old), but at least yung kakainin namin, yung linis ng bahay, yung laundry, yung pamamalengke, di ko na kelangan isipin. Nung part time pa ko with work, ako lahat kay baby and sa bahay without help. So far it's working for us naman. The pay is definitely better (apart from this fulltime client meron rin akong 2 other clients pa), i'm still able to look after my kid and bond with her, and bonus na ang dami ko ring bagong natutunan. So sa totoo lang I feel like my situation right now is ideal for me.

So weigh mo lang muna which is more important to you at the moment. If you take the new job, and eventually magustuhan mo, is it an option to drop the other job and focus on the new one? Pwede mo rin iconsider yun.
