I have circle of friends here na halos lahat kami online dating un iba lahit dito na nakabased sa online pa rin nakakilala ang SO nila. May iba kami friends na single or divorce. We have particular friend na medyo fragile emotionally and madali sya mafall either online or in person nya makilala. Good catch pa naman sya she has stable job, house, car and savings kaya prone sya sa mga manloloko or user. Now meron sya kachat na obviously gusto lang sya gamitin para makapunta dito. Kaya sa mga successful single ladies out there be vigilant sa mga lalaki na makakadate lalo na sa pipiliin kapartner baka user friendly lang.

^may tip ako sa ganyan sis pag alam mong the guy is lower than you financially be very careful lalo na sa pag discuss ng salary or stuff that you have/own. ako i can say stuff here kasi anonymous naman ako pero in person i don't tell anyone not even my parents know how much i earn or what stuff i own. i always say sakto lang sa akin sweldo ko at may konting savings.

very simple din ang lifestyle ko, i am around lots of rich people na very simple lang din most do not own any branded stuff lalo na designers. hindi nga nila kilala yun pero super rich sila close to billionaires na and i learn a lot from them lahat sila nasa real estate. they don't even eat at fancy restos na intimidate sila pumasok mahal daw ang food dun. so i live my life that way. walang luho.

i guess if you flaunt your wealth you really are prone to that lalo na sa mga guys na tamad, itsura lang nila ang puhunan at walang alam gawin kung hindi humanap ng babaeng mahuthutan. madalas din ito sa babaeng mahilig sa gwapo or macho. hehe!

sa akin i usually date guys na mas mayaman kesa sa akin or mas mataas ang job title kahit hindi gwapo. not because i want their money but because i want to protect my own. ok lang kung mas mayaman ako pero masikap siya at masinop para ma assure ko na kung ano man ma acquire ko in my lifetime e hindi niya uubusin. and in everything lagi gamitin ang utak huwag puro puso. madami kasi naloloko dahil desperate magka lovelife akala nila yun na ang sagot sa lahat ng problema nila sa buhay. nakakaloka lang.

lastly guys who are attracted to you genuinely are not interested sa job title mo, money or stuff you have. i have never met anyone na curious sa career ko i have an ex na 3years kame and he has no idea ano work ko coz he doesn't care and he pays for everything. so if a guy seems so keen to know about the professional aspects and other material stuff alam mo nang iba ang pakay nun. avoid him at all cost unless ok lang sayo maging sugar mommy.

Re:Pinoy mindset

Nakakainis nga when people question and emphasize your relationship status. Actually, even if you're already married, yet still childless, the question you'll get will level up: "kelan kayo mag-aanak?" And when you already have one child, "kelan niyo dadagdagan?" I'm currently enduring the last question.

But I don't think that kind of mindset of Pinoys can be explained by the socioeconomic growth or whatever was mentioned. If every individual has a personality so does a country. Philippines, like other Asian countries (e.g., Korea), are collectivistic by nature. They value relations and kinship, which can be seen from extended families living together to our barangay system. Kaya they ask questions about boyfriend and kids. Western countries, on the other hand, are individualistic. They give importance to achievement, independence and uniqueness.

Can Pinoys change as a culture? I don't know. Can you change your own personality?

Both naman have positive and negative sides. With collectivistic, nakakainis may pumupuna sayo, pero alam mo meron ding dadamay sayo (e.g., bayanihan). With individualistic, you're your own person, to h*ll with those relationship comments. Kaya lang, from what my oncologist BIL who's practicing in US, wala daw bumibisita sa mga pasyente nya.

I think wala namang maganda o panget. It depends on the individual where he/she aligns more with. Kung saan naka-align ang beliefs and values nya, doon sya.

So at the end of the day, regarding Pinoy mindset, it's accepting (and enduring) what you can't change and focus on what you can.

I don?t know if my being a single mom is a factor but I have never been pressured by anyone into finding a guy to marry. Madalas nga pinipigilan pa ako. I?m a strong independent woman daw who doesn?t need a man. Or baka swerte lang ako I am not surrounded by nosy people. Or, this is what I tend to believe is the case, I just don?t mind what they think. If what they say matter to you, then their mindset becomes your mindset too eh.

Re:Pinoy mindset

I think wala namang maganda o panget. It depends on the individual where he/she aligns more with. Kung saan naka-align ang beliefs and values nya, doon sya.

So at the end of the day, regarding Pinoy mindset, it's accepting (and enduring) what you can't change and focus on what you can.

^will hone on this first to stay on topic. To our sisters wherever they may be (Phils or abroad), regardless of the mindset of the people around you, focus on what you can, like what sis glam09 said. Be discerning in that you choose your battles -- accept what you have no control over (can not change), and focus on what you can -- which is YOURSELF. Be the best version of yourself that you can be, and everything (and everyone) else won't matter.

To touch on your other point sis re: pinoy mindset, i agree to an extent naman however also know that socio-economic drivers are intrinsically factors that determine culture and behavior (as well as religion). Remember Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs? Well for poorer countries, collectivism or pack mentality is the best way to adapt to survive in that society. For developed countries, "been there done that" na sila, so they have evolved to a society where they are more accepting of CHOICE to live alone, or familied or partnered without kids, etc. It's not necessarily individualistic. Socio-economic drivers are so important to behavior -- third world countries focus on eradicating poverty and education and have poor environmental focus. Developed countries no longer worry about "survival" so they put more focus on technology, environment etc.

Anecdotal example: Japan. Japan is a pack-mentality Asian culture but because it's developed, compared to other Asian neighbors, it has already started to leave the pack culture and getting married/familied is a downward trend (google it). On the other hand, Denmark, Sweden, Finland -- Scandinavian countries who have evolved much earlier than the US, are more egalitarian and social societies. They value BOTH family (go to brunch on any weekend in Copenhagen and you will see thousands of bikes parked on the streets with baby carriers) and respect for individuals. If you want to marry/not marry, that's your business... and their society is concerned of overall societal impact (environment, order, etc).

This is a long topic for discussion and unrelated na, but i guess it's just important to have a macro-view and i guess the main point is, regardless of what values one must align with, the common important trait is to NOT judge others. If getting married works for me, it may not work for my sister and it does not mean I have a better life lived, or she has a better life lived. With Pinoy mindset, i think that's the problem, being judgmental is so common (and i experience this a lot whenever i come to visit -- when walking in a mall or anywhere, i get people 'eyeing' me from head to toe and i can just read their mind. Eh so what if i'm not wearing YOUR fashion, my fashion is different.

May thread ba "anong gusto/ayaw nyo about Pinoy mentality" dun masarap i discuss yan. I have a love/hate relationship with my pinoy roots. I love being Filipino but also hate the very judgmental part of it that just oversteps into my comfort zone.

i guess we can blame the media here in the phils kasi pare pareho ang theme ng mga palabas puro rich guy fell in love with poor girl. then parating yung poor ang bida. na para bang poverty is a blessing. bakit hindi nila ituro na magsumikap ka then aasenso ka. siguro dahil hindi mag ki-click ang ganung show. filipinos want it easy pag alam nilang mahihirapan sila ayaw na nila kaya wala masyado progress.

^sis, amen. :-( instead of self-empowerment, the easy way out (the rich has the responsibility to save us) mentality still precedes... haist.

Which dating site did you refer to? I'm a bit active on this topic because i have a lot of single friends and even if i'm married, this topic is still commonly discussed whenever we go out. At the same time, I had my fair share of experience too. If you don't mind sharing your new site experience, please do tell : )

@lalee
So what I'm getting at is that, poverty leads to pack mentality, which in turn leads to Filipinos valuing kinship, which then leads to them asking relationship questions? (LOL)

So anyway, we are just trying to know the place of socio-economics, and I can see your point. Let's just integrate our theory *wink*

Re: individualistic

I don't just base it in my opinion, it's what countless of psychological research said. Unless the authors are not that credible enough. Or perhaps, I didn't elaborate on what "individualistic" really mean in the culture. It's more than the choice of marrying or not, having kids or not.

Re: on being single

Anyway, my reason for mentioning kinship is to imply that maybe the questionings are not really about Pinoy looking down at anyone who is single. That it has nothing to do with one's self-worth.

Take these progressive questions for example:
When you're single -- "kelan ka mag-bf?"
When you're in a relationship -- "kelan kayo magpapakasal?"
When married -- "kelan kayo mag-aanak?"
When there's a child -- "kelan susundan?"

For instance, with childless couples by choice, people don't look down on them or think they are less of a person, it's just that they're going out of the norm. But with the case of having a bf or not, sometimes it's not one's choice, which makes it all the more irritating. But I still don't think it has something to do with someone's worth. For me, in our culture, andun ka pa lang sa question number 1. Ako at shadowangel nasa number 3. LOL

Kasi when I place myself in a position of a single woman in her late 20s or 30s, I would feel lonely because I have a desire to be in an intimate relationship, yet "that man" (the one who has my non-negotiables and who I will emotionally connect with" does not exist or is not for me. I will be saddened by that thought, yet willing to accept it.

But I will not have a low self-worth due to people's conversational fillers. Nakakabwisit, yes, but it won't affect my self-worth. Because being single has nothing to do with it. And if someone judged you, makes herself feel better than you, then it's their issue. Otherwise, what I think about these questions, ang kulit lang, which again is stemming from the ingrained value of relations/kinship.

So personally, if placed in that position, I wouldn't need to prove myself to anyone. But I would want to prove things to myself or test my limits, which I still do until now.

@lalee888 i don't know medyo backwards pa din tayo dito. para bang our self worth is defined by our relationship. pag single ka invisible or worthless ka sa society yun ang feeling ng most pinays. umiikot ang mundo at nag sasayang ng oras sa paghahanap ng love at na ne-neglect na yung ibang aspects of life. i was guilty of this rin in the past so i cannot blame them.

It all kasi stems from the environment and upbringing. Satin preschool palang May crush crush na, tapos mga yaya tinutukso agad yung mga bata at gagawan ng pair/love team.

Kahit pa high school or even elementary, para nabrainwash ang mga bata to have bf/gf na agad otherwise they feel they?re ugly! My friend kasi told me her Daughter feels ugly daw because she doesn?t have a bf! Isip ko Lang where the hell did they get that idea?

I don?t know if my being a single mom is a factor but I have never been pressured by anyone into finding a guy to marry. Madalas nga pinipigilan pa ako. I?m a strong independent woman daw who doesn?t need a man. Or baka swerte lang ako I am not surrounded by nosy people. Good for you sis.
But I have a friend na annulled din. One time nagkwento sya sakin na she got offended by her 2 friends. Coz they were having dinner daw (3 girls - 2 married and yung 1 annulled/divorced). Nung napunta sa dating ang usapan, parang lumabas yung friend kong divorces/annulled according sa 2 married girl friends nya eh hindi naraw eligible to date. Parang, eh huwag ka na magdate kasi 3 pa kids mo etc etc.
Parang Sabi naman ng Friend ko kahit 3 kids na anak nya, wala na ba syang right to have a second chance in life?

In my case, naitanong na ata lahat sa akin:

Kelan ka mag-aasawa? Baka tumanda kang dalaga.
Kelan ka mabubuntis?
Isa pa lang? Kelan mo susundan?

When I came back to the dating scene:
Ayaw mo ng Pinoy?
Bakit hindi Pinoy? Mas maigi kasi pag Pinoy pareho kayo ng values. I basically told her to just shut up...lol! Nakakaimbyerna!  >:(

medyo lumuwag pakiramdam ko na hindi lang pala ako ang nakaka experience ng ganitong ugali ng mga pinoy haha. where I work kasi dito lahat ng pinoy may pamilya na, and parang wala akong karamay lol :/ It used to not affect me this much before nung time na naging single din ako, pero yung mapunta ka pala sa environment na halos lahat ganun ang ittanong sayo and ikaw lang magisa yung parang ?target? LOL nila, kasi lahat nga sila with families na, di rin pala maiiwasan minsan na it gets to you din. :(  but oh well, I like what one sis said here na pick your battles, you don?t always have to prove something sa mga tao even if they are making you feel that way

^^^Wow seriously??! I never had someone tell me that. Most of the people around me are supportive of what I decide to do. When I told my coworkers I was dating someone I met online, they were kilig pa nga. When I broke up with the guy, they tried to cheer me up. They?re even telling me to look around work (I work for an international organization) na baka may single pa. I told them an Australian guy actually asked me to coffee. They were encouraging me to go and see if may potential. And this guy is old ha! Hehe. He?s about 16 years my senior.

I don?t know. It could be the environment (everyone I?m around obviously isn?t the old-fashioned Pinoys). It could be my aura (they know I can?t be swayed lol). Whatever it is, I?m glad I don?t encounter nosy people. Medyo mababara sila saken if they try to stick their noses into my business. Or it could be that some have actually been nosy but I don?t acknowledge their opinions hehe. It?s their mindset, not mine. So wapakels lang siguro ako.

^Ay naku feeling close naman yang mga nakikisawsaw na di naman friends! Ang laki siguro ng bahay mo sis? Hindi pa nakikita ng son mo si athlete? Diba dumadalaw sya sa bahay? Nakakatuwa yung son mo about not wanting you to get pregnant out of wedlock. Good job anak! Ako ganyan din, ayaw ko muna ipakilala kahit sa phone lang pag hindi ko pa nararamdaman na we'll get to the next level. Kawawa kasi mga bata.

So anong sites na ulit pwede makahanap ng okay na ka-date? LOL! Gusto ko na mag move on totally.
