Tips to Enjoy Working
« on: August 21, 2017, 09:32:01 pm »
On a positive note, I'd like to start this thread about tips on how to somehow enjoy our jobs even if minsan may toxic na people or situations.
How can we keep our cool and still make work not so much of a burden?

We spend a lot of time in the office or at work. In the book, The Hero by Rhonda Byrne,  finding your passion is important. We spent 40 hours a week that is a lot of time.

Any tips to enjoy work? :D

I'll start. I doodle and write on my journal during break time. Or if waiting for an email reply or really really idle which happens.

Glad to see this thread, well I work in an office where my access to the internet has no limit whatsoever, I can also use my phones as often as I want as long as it does not impede the completion of my tasks, so I do not get bored easily at work, I read articles, blogs, browse on my social media accounts etc etc. I usually plan my next travel in the office and other things, kaya mas "tolerable" ang office hours ko maski mag 7 years nako sa company.  :) I am based abroad, so most of the time kapag free ako sa work, I use it to talk to my friends and family in Pinas.

When I used to work in the corporate world, I rely a lot of my headphones for music when I want to concentrate on my work. I can also ignore people when I want to by pretending I don't hear them  ;D so I don't get roped in mindless chit-chats.

Then after I had my lunch, I would try to get  a powernap in - again with the help of my earphones - and wake up refreshed and ready to tackle the afternoon tasks. I'm much more relaxed in the afternoon but I make sure I accomplish most of my work in the morning.

Or if I'm not up for a nap, I would walk to the nearby mall for a bit of exercise (and window-shopping or actual shopping  ;))

Thank you sis Rory_Lorelie_Gilmore and sis minabey for sharing the things you do or did at work. I agree on reading articles, using phones and taking a nap as ways to make your day worthwhile at the office or veer away from boredom.

Headsets are very essential for me. I even bought one with more bass and noise cancelling features. Sometimes enjoying works means being at peace with myself and not letting work negativities affect me that might hinder from completing or performing my duties. :)

In addition, at least once a day, I spent good 10-15 minutes rest room time para sa skin care. I wash my face, put moisturizer, and fix my hair. I go back to my work station more relax and feeling fresh pa to do more task even pang next day minsan nagagawa ko na. :D

anyway on my previous work, na umabot lang ng 6 months. laging madaming ginagawa pero sulit naman dahil madaming pa event. sa internet access ok lang naman may pa computer sa department namin pero may mga sarili kaming dalang laptop. pwede maki connect sa wifi sa university yun nga lang naka block karamihan ng sites. pero if magka rare man ako na free time i spend it on buying a miryenda sa school canteen while watching a movie or di kaya pupunta kami ng bf ko sa mall para dun maglibot then babalik na sa office after

bonding time with colleagues during break hours somehow helps in relieving the whole day stress. Good relationship with your peers and that feeling of having a "kakampi" make things better and i think one of the reasons which stop an employee from resigning hehe

^that is true sis. I referred one analyst here in my office but less than a year she joined the mean girls circle and backstabbed me.

What I did, I referred another friend na I am sure true friend ko. :) I am so happy she is already one week in the company. So even if my character got assassinated in the office thru rumors and gossips, I have one friend I can lean on.

I make sure daily na I work diligently para walang makita o mahanp na butas ha ha

Positive thinking helps.  My work became more tolerable when we hired an admin officer who helps me especially with discipline and getting my message across.  That is my usually problem because I work with younger staffs who seem to always think the company is out to get them.  Luckily, the negative ones have resigned so hoping for a brighter future ahead with the new staffs.

Think of work as just a means to an end. Old saying na it's called hanap buhay, not hanap patay.
Plan out and plot leaves every once in a while so you can enjoy your hard earned money.
Make your health and wellness a priority!
Make it a point to learn something new everyday. Make extra effort to hone your skills. Study, attend trainings, get online courses, get certified. Para you're equipped with extra skills when you move on to the next role. Some companies even reimburse your tuition as long as what you're studying is related to your work.
Have a life outside of work. Do things you love and are passionate about. Work very rarely overlaps with passion but the trick daw is to find and okay job and bawi nalang doing what you love outside of the office.
Avoid office gossip AT ALL COSTS. This creates a toxic work environment. Lakas din maka bad vibes.
Try your best to keep your personal life and work life separate.
When the going gets tough, step away from your desk. Walk around muna, get some fresh air, take a mini break. Get back to your desk once you've cleared your head.
Map out your career plan and take concrete steps on how to achieve them. Talk to your boss regularly so he or she can help you help yourself.
Take negative feedback constructively.
If you can (and if you company allows flexi) - go to work early to avoid the rush hour traffic!
Dress up nicely everyday. Sabi nila dress daw for the role that you want, not for the role you currently have. This sounds a bit shallow but personally, I really do enjoy dressing up. I realized this will be one of the things I will miss if I don't have an office job anymore.
Don't be shy to talk to people! Network :)
