Transiting in Japan - Do I need a visa?

I will be traveling to the US in September. I booked 2 tickets (Manila-Narita-Manila and Narita-US-Narita).

I'm arriving in Narita Terminal 1, and will depart from Terminal 3 (10-hour layover; same day connection).

Would I need a transit visa if I don't have checked baggage?

UPDATE

So I transited in Narita without a checked bag. I still had to go thru immigration though, as the transfer gates were still closed at that time. The immigration officer put a "Landing Permission" sticker on my passport so I could still use my tourist visa to enter Japan at another time.

Therefore, pwede pala na walang visa at pwede akong nagdala ng checked bag. Sayang.

Would you know if I need to pass immigration if I don't have my boarding pass for my Tokyo-US-Tokyo flight? Delta said they can't print it from Manila. My saving grace would be a Delta (or partner) counter at Narita airport transfer counter.

^don't go thru immigration if you have a same day connection. You just have to go to the airline transfer desk to have your boarding pass for your connecting flight printed. The transfer counters are located before the immigration counters. Try to check the airport map of Narita (go to their website) so you'll know where the location of the transfer desk/s are.

Narita is a hub of Delta airlines.  So, transfer desk is very near. 
You'll have to pass another x-ray for your hand carry, to go the next terminal.  Then, look for the Delta transfer desk.  They will print your next ticket there.

You can roam around the airport, as long as you don't go out.  Immigration will hold you if you do since you don't have a visa.

10hr is almost the same number hour of flight from Narita to LAX.  That's a very long lay over.

True the layover is too long. Iniisip ko pa lang nabo-bore na ako lol. But it was the best option when I booked (7 weeks from departure). Also, I'd be going to southern US and touring Tokyo on my return. It would have been different if my destination was California and/or if I won't have the side trip to Tokyo.

Sorry I can't find new thread for Japan Visa and locked na yun last thread. Ask ko lang may nakapagapply na ng visa ex: 2 kayo then 1 is granted other 1 denied naman? kinakabahan ako sa kasama ko less 50k ang show money.

Wala po kasi ako makitang japan visa thread so ask ko nalang dito. Will it be possible na maapprove visa if it's the very first out of country na pupuntahan namin? I'm employed sa isang private company and 4 years na ako. Kasama ko naman is home based online job na steady naman and employer nya is from US. Complete naman requirements ko pero yung kasama ko no ITR so we're planning to write a letter explaining why nalang. As for the show money no prob naman more than 50k naman savings namin sa bank each. Worry ko lang kasi wala pa tatak passports namin baka ma-deny kami ng japanese visa. Any feedback is deeply appreciated! 😊

^ My cousin applied for a visa but he never got any passport stamps, approved naman siya
